Would let a 16 year old leave school?

Obviously it's better if he stays in school but he absolutely hates, hates, hates it.

Would you consider letting him leave school?

He's 16 so can actually leave if he wants to but he'd walk away with no qualifications whatsoever?

If you can get him to finish out this year, that would be a huge benefit. Then if his school do the Leaving Cert Applied, that sounds like it might suit him. It's not as academic, and will keep him in school till he's 18.

Is there anyone in early twenties or someone you know who could chat to him and advise him that isn’t you?
I don’t mean that in a hurtful way, but someone who did this and regretted it or did it and then returned to school could maybe have an impact on your son.
I always remember a younger friend saying he messed up his GCSEs and then had to redo Maths and English as he couldn’t get work anywhere. Something like this could maybe get through to him a bit more. Just get those qualifications in first and then leave. Time spent now could be time saved later.

The lad will be about 19 now. The thread was started in 2021.
I wonder what he is doing?
