To ask if these are acceptable to wear as school shoes?

My son has just been put into detention for the second day in a row for wearing the wrong shoes. He has been threatened with a fixed term exclusion too. Their uniform policy says if their shoes have laces they must be black and that they can’t be canvas. These look smart, they have black laces and they are leather. My DS has issues with his feet because of their shape and normal school shoes hurt him. We’ve tried so many different brands.

YANBU- these are acceptable as school shoes.

YABU- the school is right.

If they are leather, they can't be trainers, no-one would train in leather shoes, their feet would get insanely sweaty...

Most importantly though they meet the regulations, so until the school updates their rules, they should be able to be worn.

OP, if your son's feet are badly formed and he cant wear shoes then you need to take him to get orthotic shoes, designed around his problem. They will improve his walking, which in turn removes any extra strain being placed on the wrong muscles in his legs by walking badly.

If he actually has problems with his feet then that will not be solved by were Nike trainers. He needs proper shoes made for his issues.

If he doesnt actually have a medical issue, which I suspect he foesnt. He just wants to wear trainers and is saying shoes are uncomfy, then he needs to grow up and wear shoes which conform to the dress code.

I've only ever had letters saying that children need to wear branded trainers as they are the only ones that fit their feet...

Those are exactly the same as my son's school shoes. They are smart, leather and black - really don't understand why any school would have an issue with these. YANBU.

These are clearly branded trainers and not smart shoes. The school policy says he can't wear them. If he has issues with his feet, get a referral to an orthotic clinic and get some proper shoes specially made for him. I'm sure his aversion to proper shoes will magically disappear if you do that.

Personally, I like smart shoes, but our school have demanded everyone wear trainers this year. Granted, it's primary, but they don't look anywhere near as smart as they used to.

They are black, they look smart enough and they are probably more comfortable than stupid hard leather shoes. But some twat has come up with an arbitrary rule so they aren't allowed.

Urgh Confused this is one thing I don't miss about my kids being at school, the bloody strict bastard ROOOOLZ about what they fucking wear. You HAVE to buy the uniform from them, and cannot get it from Tesco/Asda etc, even though it's 5 times cheaper in the supermarkets. And perfectly decent smart black shoes like this are not good enough. So twatty! Hmm

Someone needs to step in and stop this fucking nonsense. Hmm

These wouldn’t be allowed at my kids school or in my office for that matter. It’s the logo that just nudges them too much into trainer territory.

Those seem to be trainers? I’m not siding with the school- I don’t agree with very strict uniform rules but those definitely appear to be trainers.

Why is this framed as 'grow up'?

The vast, vast majority of jobs don't have a 'shoe' code that would exclude these shoes.

95% of my office are wearing trainers these days.

How old is DS? I do think it's unfair to give a child detention for something that is presumably the parents fault (not saying you are in fact at fault, OP!).
This is yet another reason why I oppose all school uniform....

My secondary school allows Dd to wear these - ditto to all black Converse. Their only stipulation is that they have to be all black, whatever they are.

No, they're trainers. I wish they were allowed in schools because they're more comfortable than shoes.

Our school would not allow them as they have a Nike logo on the side. They did emphasise no logos to us

I think they should be acceptable but they wouldn't be at our secondary school. They have to have a stepped heel, all black etc.

Ours have said that year 7 can continue to wear their shoes that aren't quite right until they outgrow them, then they must adhere to the uniform. I thought that was quite decent of them.

I think the main issue may be the branding. There is a big tick on the side! Clarks do similar boys shoes but with less branding - maybe those would be acceptable?

A lot of obsession with the Nike logo....anyway this could be painted over. I'm sure it would be obvious if anyone looked up close, but why would anyone do that to shoes?

Paint over it? It's black on black already and still huge and obvious.
