to think what Boris Johnson has said today is unacceptable?

first he has said (I'm guessing as a sop to commercial landlords complaining about properties being abandoned by businesses) that everyone needs to go back to work because they will be gossiped about:

"You have got to be able to come in, you have got to know what everyone else is talking about – otherwise you are going to be gossiped about and you are going to lose out"

Really? Firstly so what? and secondly, it's basically condoning bullying as a reason to get back to work.

Then he has said

'It's not the job of government to come in and try and fix every problem in business and industry."

Boris says it is 'not my job to fix all of the UK's problems': PM’s astonishing claim as he denies nation is in 'crisis' and DISMISSES inflation spike fears, fuel shortages and empty supermarket shelves as 'just part of his new approach'

I'm not a decision maker at my employer, JulieCA.

I don't have control over budgets.

I quite liked his convo on R4 this morning - including being told to "stop talking" which could well make Radio History.

I generally let politicians' bishops and business people drone on - occasionally pricking my ears.

My radar was alerted when he started talking about worker's T&Cs and that UK Business needs to stop relying on worker's with Govt Benefits to subsidize Profits and undercutting (subjugating) UK workers by using uncontrolled EU migration to keep worker's T&Cs low and puttinng no investment into training the many young people who Business prefer to throw on the scrap heap.

I don't care which politician says it , but whoever they are, best they're the PM, rather than a backbencher or a politician belonging to a party with no power.

@lljkk

julieca, it's not just the laptops or duplicate desktop PCs (& monitors?)

What about desk chairs, footstools, headphones with microphone, webcam, laptop chargers, dock stations, monitors, keyboards, mice, bags to transport laptop in -- will this stuff be all duplicated in multiple locations or how much has to be lugged back & forth? Who knows.

I wanted to go into office this week but... the only headphones I have at office have a broken mic. I would need to remember the good headphones if anyone wants to suddenly TEAMS me. Shared office, officemates don't really want to share my call (not sure the desk set up has speakers, anyway).

Simple thing... speakers, headphones & mic.

I have a dedicated laptop for partner organisation but no laptop bag to transport it. What if someone asks me to look at data held by partner organisation? Do I transport laptop in a dodgy bag just in case? What if I forget its charger? If I cycle & fall & bash the laptop -- is it insured? Who TF knows. NO Budget to buy an accessory like a laptop bag. A conventional laptop bag is too big to fit in my cycle pannier, anyway. Pfffft.

What are you on about. We have surface pro devices that include a camera, we have headphones to carry with us and the charger.

Thats it, its not tons of stuff.

When I go to the office I could just use the desktop pcs there which already set up with webcam etc. Or if I take in my laptop there are docking stations at desks.

Its not rocket science for any company to have it set up right.

And really its your responsibility to make sure you pack what you need to take so you don't forget ut even if you did someone will have one to lend.

Of course there will be debate as plenty of people disagree with how they go about running the country. That is how democracy works. Pretending you didn't vote Tory is just weird

Rumblymumbly I agree but have you seen the comments directed at Tory voters?
‘You okay hun?’;

‘you vote Tory then you don’t care if children die’
‘So you support fascism?’
‘Do you enjoy doffing your cap to the upper classes?’

That sort of thing. I suppose people come on to forums for a chat and a discussion but they don’t want to be rounded on by a group of posters.

Kendodd · 05/10/2021 22:19

Well I suppose by shrugging his shoulders and saying basically not my problem/don't care, he's not lying (for once) and I think Johnson not lying is a big step forward.

VestaTilley · 05/10/2021 22:40

YANBU. He’s dreadful.

RumblyMumbly · 05/10/2021 22:49

@Andante57 I think if people suggested I was a fascist or didn't care if children died because I had voted for a mainstream party I would laugh! It certainly wouldn't make me hide my opinion and beliefs if I thought they were right.

You’re right, one shouldn’t get upset by what anonymous posters say on an Internet forum, but it can become quite unpleasant on here. I don’t know about other forums as this is the only one I look at.

Tbf @Andante57 there were a few posts last week about Angela Rayner and the Tory party. The general drift was very pro tory and the ops got short shrift. It swings both ways. I guess things get nasty when there is obvious corruption and lying on behalf of the government but certain posters won't acknowledge it.

Neither am I. But crap employers don't invest or plan to make working from home work properly. Good ones do.

Yes posters were very critical of Angela Rayner.
