Dirty staff toilets.

So we've always had staff toilets issues.
Male dominated workplace so tried not to be too picky.
We had vomit down the loo I got on my arm, shitty stains and once a poo stain on the floor.
I've mentioned repeatedly for yrs about it nothing changes.
It doesn't get cleaned.Today my colleague went up there and when I followed there was vomit one the floor and splashes in the sink.
Later a hand towel was put over it,no mopping or proper hygiene.
I'm disgusted wwyd.?
I find it grim.🤢

At one of my work places we'd regularly have shit on the floor. Not a smear, but a log. Grim. And blood smear, shitty skids down the loo, piss on the seats.

Some people are just disgusting. They were female only toilets and we had no male staff members at the time and the building wasn't open to the public, so I can't blame men!

StressyWoman · 04/10/2021 19:22

What’s your job and who’s responsible for cleaning the toilets?

MrsRobbieHart · 04/10/2021 19:25

I can’t cope with the thought that there are so many people walking around, sharing the bus with me, the trolley in Asda, the bench in the park and then going to work and dropping turds on the floor, smearing blood and wiping bogeys up the wall!! Who the fuck reared these vile human beings??

anon12345anon · 04/10/2021 19:28

Speak to your boss....if not HR..... absolutely not acceptable EnvyEnvy

anon12345anon · 04/10/2021 19:30

Ooh how interesting, never heard of that!

MrsFin · 04/10/2021 19:36

I think people who handle food are supposed to have separate toilets from other workers for hygiene reasons.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 04/10/2021 19:38

I'm a chef and we use the same toilet as all the customers as it's the only loo in the building

whatisforteamum · 04/10/2021 19:58

Yes I agree to pictures. This is going higher I will report back tomorrow.

I'm shocked at people saying some of this stuff.
So disgusting.

Right now, I'd be flagging to the HSE re covid regs, too.

They're all over cleaning in the workplace currently.

Take pictures, and send.

Lightswitch123 · 04/10/2021 20:21

This is mind boggling! Poor you! Where the hell do you work??!!

KT727 · 04/10/2021 20:39

No one who is vomiting or has vomited in the past couple of days should even be working with food. It sounds so vile! Definitely report to public health!

Singlebutmarried · 04/10/2021 20:50

@MordenLarch

Where I used to with someone took it upon themselves to pick their nose and stick their bogies on the wall. No one ever cleaned them off and there must have been a hundred by the end. Every time I think of it I nearly vom. People are gross!
Ooh we had this at a place I worked at in the 90s. Proper rank.
PollyPepper · 04/10/2021 21:32

Envy 💩

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/10/2021 07:52

@whatisforteamum - lots of people have asked, me included, where do you work? If food is being handled it’s a public safety issue.

whatisforteamum · 05/10/2021 08:23

Obviously I'm not going to say where but it is a restaurant.

OP posts:
BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/10/2021 08:24

Is it a chain restaurant?

whatisforteamum · 05/10/2021 08:24

I'm checking today if I could send him home for being hungover.

OP posts:
Couldhavebeenme3 · 05/10/2021 10:12

Are you his manager?

Couldhavebeenme3 · 05/10/2021 10:16

Literally the third item that comes up on a Google search -

*Can an employee be sent home for having a hangover?
This depends on the circumstances as every case is different. However, find out important information in a confidential setting to question if they have an underlying medical condition or if the employee is taking medication, in case it is not a hangover.

“If employers have a reasonable belief that the person is suffering from a hangover and they are not able to perform their job adequately or if this impairs either the business or the health and safety of the employee or others in the workplace, then you may suspend the worker on full pay depending on an informal investigation.

“Once the facts are established, you may proceed on a disciplinary hearing if you have the grounds to do so,”*

FleasInMyKnees · 05/10/2021 10:20

That's grim, even more grim as it's a restaurant. The manager needs to sort this out, environmental health are the people to call.

Ormally · 05/10/2021 10:30

HSE has minimum standards for workplace toilets (never mind restaurants). One element is also the number of toilets for number of people - if the one loo is too dirty/damaged to use, then that gives you 0 in working order. The source text is www.hse.gov.uk/pUbns/priced/l24.pdf and p37 is the part covering hygiene.

But this may be more a staff conduct issue if this has features of becoming a pattern, and one that would be difficult to prove (e.g. workers with some health conditions or pregnancy may also be guilty of being sick on the floor on the 'wrong' day).

Potentially you could establish a clear written agreement to clean up after yourself in such cases (with a cupboard for items to do that), and to take own responsibility to alert cleaners to sanitise within 30 minutes after this.

As an angle on some of the comments on how people can miss the bowl seemingly deliberately with blood, poo etc: sometimes this can in fact be due to underlying issues like OCD - phobic about toilets and cubicles themselves, and do not touch these things or toilet roll in public facilities. I know it seems counterintuitive but it is true even if it makes matters 20 times worse for everyone. I don't include the bogey example in this, that's just gross.

Lightningrain · 05/10/2021 10:56

That is awful, especially when people are working with food. There must be something you can do with regards to reporting as a health and safety issue.

I used to work at a place where two women used to leave the toilets in a state - never washed their hands, never flushed, vile smell, skid marks. One of them didn’t lock the door so if you went in and pushed the door thinking the cubicle was empty you’d be met with a tut and get the door slammed into you. One of them used to make awful straining noises. It got to the point where most of us would turn around and go back to our desks if we saw one of them going into the toilets. Their manager said she’d addressed it multiple times but they’d be fine for a week or so and then gradually go back to their old ways. I’m glad I’m working from home full time now!

whatisforteamum · 05/10/2021 17:16

Nothing is happening.
I'm going to tell the next person above I'm using the customer loos now and why.
I'm seen as moaning now.
