Kate Middleton is a role model for me?

I like the way she looks, so pretty and stylish but classic and simple at the same time.

Slim but toned and athletic figure, meanwhile I could lose a few kg.

Her personality seems refined and elegant, you will never catch her sharing controversial opinions or offending views.

She seems to be a supportive wife and mother

Seems overall to live such an elegant life.

AIBU? To want to be more like Kate and see her as a role model?

@SleepingStandingUp

she looks way older than her years and is rather bland really? How old do you think she looks *@Chikapu*?
Well she looks mid-40s to me - she dresses like the queen and does her eye makeup in a very ageing way.

That’s down to her stylist - she always looks far better when she is in sports clothes and less makeup.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 03/10/2021 22:46

Well it's a good thing she's not a role model for the rest of us because nothing in Britain would ever get done!

Immaculatemisconception · 03/10/2021 22:54

I see her as very privileged. When did she worry about whether she could afford to put the heating on? When did she feed her kids on the cheap range of baked beans at the end of the week? Women who raise a family on a low income but do it well, are a much better role model.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2021 22:55

I do wonder how close their relationship is though when George is being sent to boarding school at 8 years old. I thought popular press opinion was that he wasn't?

waybill · 03/10/2021 22:57

@MusicTeacherSussex

It was catty. But if she really cared about DV against women she'd be down the shelter handing out clothes and cooking up meals on the regular.
I'm sure we all care deeply about violence against women, so why is it deemed necessary for her to prove it by demonstrating it in that way?

It's not as if all the rest of us spend our spare time helping out at shelters and she refuses to take her turn is it?

Osrie · 03/10/2021 22:57

v. Barbie doll

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2021 22:58

But if she really cared about DV against women she'd be down the shelter handing out clothes and cooking up meals on the regular is this just Kate because she hasn't t got a proper job, or doesn't anyone who doesn't volunteer at a women's shelter secretly support DV?

Learnthroughplay3 · 03/10/2021 23:00

@juliecaits its very easy to be badass,wanting the best career,being selfish IMO. It would be very easy for me but the hardest thing of all is being what you perceive as quite ordinary, I don't think the norm is that any more so ordinary is not what you have described

Learnthroughplay3 · 03/10/2021 23:02

@Immaculatemisconception I completely agree

Cam2020 · 03/10/2021 23:04

She's perfect for the role she is in, but none if what you see is real - or at least it's not the full story.

buttermutt · 03/10/2021 23:08

How old are you?

I'm a similar age to her with dc but she's not someone my friends & I take notice of. I dislike the way the role forces her to be a Stepford wife, I don't think I know anything about her. I also think it's weird to look up to someone for their body type (unless you're a teenager maybe).

buttermutt · 03/10/2021 23:10

She's perfect for the role she is in

I just find it odd that in 2021 this is the role & how she's expected to play it.

julieca · 03/10/2021 23:10

@Learnthroughplay3 you obviously know nothing about Florence Nightingale. And on what basis do you call her selfish?
I did not say she was badass because she wanted a career, she was badass because of what she did. Her real name was the Lady with the Axe. Because she was horrified in arriving in the Crimea to find medicines locked up and only used on officers. She took an axe and broke the lock so all soldiers could have access to medicine.
And it is not hard to be ordinary. The vast majority of us are. The vast majority of women in MN are working and trying to be the best mothers we can be.

MeanWeedratStew · 03/10/2021 23:29

She graduated from uni, then did nothing for a decade (save for a brief stint at Jigsaw when the press started questioning what she did all day) while she waited for the ring. The excuse given, around the time of the engagement, was that she had to be available to William at all times. She's very fortunate that he ended up marrying her - if he'd chucked her, she'd have been left to start from scratch with no career and no work experience. And now she has the "job" of wearing nice clothes, shaking hands and making small talk, for about an hour or two each time. Yes, she's apparently a hands-on mum, but as PPs said, that's much easier when you don't also have to cook, clean, shop etc like us plebs do.

You do you, OP, but honestly, I can't see much to envy or admire here.

And for all that people hate Meghan (why??), she is a grafter who has worked and achieved all her life, even after becoming a royal (the Smartworks collection and the cookbook being two solid projects that she followed through on).

Sorry. I just think the days of women being admired for marrying well and looking pretty should be long over by now.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 03/10/2021 23:38

Oh god if you want a royal woman as a role model you could do better. I think I'd pick one of the ones who have represented their country at an Olympic Games, won a European Championships, has an HGV license, has been sports personality of the year and can wear a nice frock too.

Far more aspirational.

Cascais · 04/10/2021 00:00

Kate worked for her parents' business.

RobertaFirmino · 04/10/2021 00:03

Why do you even need a role model though? Do you not have your own thoughts, style, preferences etc.?

Happylittlethoughts · 04/10/2021 00:08

If she inspires you then crack on. Be a bland world if we were all the same. Remember she's just a woman and no better or worse than you . ❣

Viviennemary · 04/10/2021 00:10

I think she is very suited to the role. But I wouldn't like to be her. Wouldnt mind access to the jewellery though especially the pearly tiara.

Cascais · 04/10/2021 00:13

*She is not a photographer of merit. Her pictures have improved a lot but the early birthday photos of George were terrible- out of focus etc

What has she done for charity? Specifically?*

Early years foundation, Hold Still, patron of East Anglia Children's hospices

Lampzade · 04/10/2021 00:13

I just don’t find her that interesting tbh.
Doesn’t appear to have much of an opinion on anything which I suppose means that she is the ideal consort for the future king .
However, she looked absolutely stunning in the gold dress

LobsterNapkin · 04/10/2021 00:13

@Mummadeze

My role models have achieved more than being a good wife and mother, but each to their own. There isn’t really anything not to like about her I suppose.
Like what, CEO of an advertising company, bus driver, hedge fund manager? Do tell!
LobsterNapkin · 04/10/2021 00:15

OP, I think Kate looks a little too thin, personally, and I would imagine her real personality is a lot deeper than what we see.

However, being poised, and graceful in public situations, and doing your duty with confidence and a sense of purpose, are all reasonable things to be inspired by.

VavavoomHenry · 04/10/2021 00:16

Kate Middleton does even live a life like Kate Middleton. Don’t try to emulate someone who is fictional. The real person of Kate probably has controversial opinions, bad hair days and fights with her family.

If you must model yourself off of someone, choose someone you actually know well.

VavavoomHenry · 04/10/2021 00:17
