Kate Middleton is a role model for me?

I like the way she looks, so pretty and stylish but classic and simple at the same time.

Slim but toned and athletic figure, meanwhile I could lose a few kg.

Her personality seems refined and elegant, you will never catch her sharing controversial opinions or offending views.

She seems to be a supportive wife and mother

Seems overall to live such an elegant life.

AIBU? To want to be more like Kate and see her as a role model?

She’s not a role model in the least.she’s a personable horsey rich girl who married well

I don't think she's a role model for women because, as lovely as I'm sure she is, she essentially spends her life traipsing silently behind a man who is 'higher' than her.

But I LOVE her style, she is my style icon!

Kanaloa · 03/10/2021 20:59

What about her do you aspire to/find to be a role model?

I mean I could understand if your role model was someone like Malala, who has suffered and fought for the rights of women’s education, or even a role model like ‘my teacher was my role model because she supported me’ but it seems like all you admire is that she is a mum, wife, and slim?

ohfook · 03/10/2021 21:00

I actually really like her in so far as I've not met her, but she comes across very well, but I don't consider her a role model. You couldn't pay me enough to want to swap places with her.

Some children I work with met her once when she made a visit to a teenage mum's charity near us that surprisingly wasn't reported on at all in the press or on their Instagram and despite not giving a shit beforehand, they all came back very enamoured with her the next day.

If it weren’t for Kate, I reckon Hello! magazine might not exist at all. I do sometimes pick up Hello! magazine if I’m waiting at the GP.

SylvanasWindrunner · 03/10/2021 21:02

I don't know, I don't think she has much of a personality. Well, that's unfair, I'm sure she does, but not one that's shown in public. So everything 'role model' about her is pretty superficial - nice clothes, good hair, etc. When I think of someone I want to be a role model, they have a strong personality, opinions, etc. That's not something she can ever really have in her position.

Maybe more of a fashion icon/inspiration than role model?

CarolynMartens · 03/10/2021 21:03

Re K Middy, she seems so incredibly trapped in that lifestyle, she can never ever leave. That to me is terrifying.
I mean, if it all goes tits up for me here I could fairly easily save a bit of money and move to florida and go work in a hot dog shack. Where as she will always always be stuck raising a frickin future king.

I think she’s pretty happy to be there!

MsTSwift · 03/10/2021 21:03

Seems odd for an adult woman to have another adult woman as a “role model”. Weird. Thought only children or younger teens had role models once you are grown you are you and that’s it.

RosieCockle · 03/10/2021 21:03

She looks and acts nice, but what has she actually done for her to be a role model for you? Sad.

OverByYer · 03/10/2021 21:04

@ChristmasWithDC

overbyyer true though
Calling another woman a ‘gurning, taciturn doll’? I don’t care what your thoughts are on the RF, but attacking a woman’s looks is out of order.
BeardyButton · 03/10/2021 21:05

Is your aim to be inoffensive? Personally, the idea of aspiring to be insipid does nothing for me. Now that’s not to say that this is what Kate really is. Maybe she has her own opinions but keeps them out of the public as she doesn’t see that as her role. Fine. But to aspire to have no opinions at all.... no ta!

Sweetchocolatecandy · 03/10/2021 21:05

She is a keen hunter- that’s enough for her NOT to be a role model IMO.

Evesgarden · 03/10/2021 21:05

ooooh OP such click bait!

Hi Megs!

@BlueBookBag

On another note I’m leaving Mumsnet soon. Maybe later on today. Or in the early morning hours.
Umm ok then.
Rosebel · 03/10/2021 21:06

Well she appears to be nice and a good wife and mum but we only see snapshots of her life.
We have no idea what she's like at home without cameras all around.
I think she is beautiful and plays her role well but I wouldn't want her life not even with all the perks. I find it odd that she (and William) are always referred to as hands on parents but have a full time nanny.

grasstreeleaf · 03/10/2021 21:06

Easy.

 1. do some exercises
 2. eat salad and fish (I think that's what her Dukan diet mainly consisted of)
 3. be smiley and polite
 4. wear conservative clothes

Pretty much anyone can have a go at that stuff, don't have to be particularly rich or royal.

ssd · 03/10/2021 21:06

I like her.

But apart from the fabulous wealth, amazing houses, fleet of staff, gorgeous figure and hair, very loyal extended family, I'd hate to be her.

DillonPanthersTexas · 03/10/2021 21:06

She has an army of handlers carefully managing her engagements, wardrobe, publicity and everything else. What you see is what you are allowed to see after it has been carefully packaged and sanitised. She leaves skids on the toilet bowl with the best of us.

NoLeafClover · 03/10/2021 21:07
@NoLeafClover it’s a good thing because it means she’s well liked by most people regardless of their own viewpoints, which is good for a public figure
But is being liked the most important thing in life? Again, I know in her role it's probably pretty vital. I also think it's important for 'public figures' to speak up on issues, to use the platform that they are so lucky to have. Though I guess Kate doesn't have that luxury. She must have to swallow a lot of her own opinions, so as to appear bland and likeable.

However, you or I don't have to keep our opinions to ourselves, or try to appeal to everyone. So why would you aspire to someone who does?

MusicTeacherSussex · 03/10/2021 21:08

Are you ok?Wine

LidlMiddleLover · 03/10/2021 21:08

I likeher and think she is a great role model but way way too thin to be healthy

grasstreeleaf · 03/10/2021 21:09

I think most catalogues stock clothes very similar to what she wears...
