Asda driver knocked over my wall

katemuff · 03/10/2021 18:08

I had an Asda delivery on Tuesday. When he left the driver reversed into a drystone wall and destroyed it (not easy to do!) DH ran out to see him driving off. We have the cctv showing him hitting the wall, looking backwards out the window at the damage and then driving off. DH and dd moved out sheep onto another field.
I call wed, thurs, fri and sat to request a call back/email/insurance details and everyone promised me a response 'before the end of the day' but I've heard nothing.
I need to put the sheep back as we're bringing a ram in this week and we need to separate the flocks. Is it unreasonable to expect a response by now?
I'll have to get the wall fixed and reclaim the money, can they insist I wait for the wall to be viewed/fixed by their own contractor?
I'm so frustrated!

A young guy ran a load of trolleys into my dms car door damaging it. We got a quote for fixing it and were told by manager to go ahead. We paid and then they reimbursed us which I thought was strange. I thought we would give invoice to Asda and they would pay the guy who fixed it directly. Do you know which store the van came from and maybe speak to the manager who if he can't help should help contact the relevant department. If no joy could you go through the small claims or threaten to get them to engage and deal with it.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 03/10/2021 18:26

We have a procedure in place for things like this. We call it an uninsured loss. It depends how much you think the repair will cost as to exactly how it’s dealt with.

Home shopping is an incredibly busy department and they usually promise a call back and don’t which isn’t really good enough. Call the store one last time and ask to speak to the GSM (store manager), explain how unhappy you are and what they’re going to do about it.

Under £500 off the top of my head you’ll be reimbursed for any repairs needed, just make sure to get a proper receipt from the tradesman and then the money is paid to you in store.

If you don’t get anywhere I’d suggest tweeting Asda or calling Asda House.

Hope you get it sorted.

If it’s a drystone wall and you’re farmers, can you just put it back together again? I imagine it’s fallen down rather than been entirely destroyed?

saveforthat · 03/10/2021 18:32

Bloody hell I have exactly the same problem. I have a note on my orders not to bring the van up the drive as it's too tight to turn around. Last driver ignored and said he was used to the drives in this road. Took out part of the wall as he left, did not stop to inform us or apologise. I filled in a form on their website (you can attach photos) and have phoned twice. No real response yet. Incident was over three weeks ago. If no joy next week I will email ceo and go down to local store.

Noogar · 03/10/2021 18:33

Tweet them repeatedly until they answer you. Once or twice a day

It's quite a skilled thing !
purplesequins · 03/10/2021 18:36

get the wall repaired, that's a priority righg now, and then send them the invoice.
small claims if they don't pay up.
collect all receipts and evidence.
good luck!

Have you ever tried to build a drystone wall? It's far more skilled than you'd think.

Being a farmer doesn't mean you are a drystone waller!
It is a skilled trade, most farmers get people in to do decent repairs, you can usually spot the repairs farmers have tried to do themselves.

Hahaha! I wonder why OP didn't think of that, after all, its only like doing a bit of lego, it like farming is hard work or anything.....................

I'm a farmer too, and I wouldn't attempt to make this kind of repair. It's skilled work and very expensive!
QueeniesCroft · 03/10/2021 18:43

Ha, I'm chuckling at the string of (other) outraged farming types! I type slowly, so hadn't seen most before I hit the post button.

ducksalive · 03/10/2021 18:45

My dad used to build drystone walls, even sorting the stones for building is quite skilled ( he trained me to do that)
If the wall is going to last it needs repairing by someone who knows what they are doing.

AlthoughTheyFlyByJumboJet · 03/10/2021 18:49

Not to mention that even if rebuilding the fence was something an untrained person could do properly, the farmer shouldn't have to stop everything else to spend a day or more fixing a fence that was knocked down by someone else!

AlthoughTheyFlyByJumboJet · 03/10/2021 18:50

...wall, not fence. Blush

RAFHercules · 03/10/2021 18:51

I'm sure there was a thread about this same thing a couple if weeks ago, I remember it as my DNephew used to be an ASDA delivery man.
I hope its not the same guy? Knocking over a wall a week?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/10/2021 18:53

Could you put up a temporary wire fence, to stop the sheep getting out of the gap, until you can get it repaired, @katemuff? I know sheep are Houdinis but it could work in the short term.

This is the funniest thing I've read in a while. Come on OP what you moaning about, it's just a few stones on top of a few more.
Ironmanrocks · 03/10/2021 18:59

My neighbour had this with a Sainsburys man. He also had cctv. I think he sent them the link with the registration and threatened legal action in the first email. It was sorted very quickly!

No clearly they can't. That's why they need the insurance to pay for the bills.

Take a pic of your sheep looking sad and tweet them. That will get thei attention.

MrsColon · 03/10/2021 19:03

Tweet them, with a photo, post a link to the tweet here and we'll all re-tweet. Should get it resolved!

Oh please please do this. Extra bonus points if you can get the sheep to fold their arms.

I suspect OP will have a selection of flakes and gates etc (farming terminology is very regional, so varies a lot) so will be able to botch something together, but that might not be enough.

I have a sheep called Houdini. We are not friends.

MattHancocksSexTape · 03/10/2021 19:16

It would also be classed as failure to stop, which is a criminal offence.

Could mention that to the Asda team and see if that puts a rocket up their arses
