Asda driver knocked over my wall

katemuff · 03/10/2021 18:08

I had an Asda delivery on Tuesday. When he left the driver reversed into a drystone wall and destroyed it (not easy to do!) DH ran out to see him driving off. We have the cctv showing him hitting the wall, looking backwards out the window at the damage and then driving off. DH and dd moved out sheep onto another field.
I call wed, thurs, fri and sat to request a call back/email/insurance details and everyone promised me a response 'before the end of the day' but I've heard nothing.
I need to put the sheep back as we're bringing a ram in this week and we need to separate the flocks. Is it unreasonable to expect a response by now?
I'll have to get the wall fixed and reclaim the money, can they insist I wait for the wall to be viewed/fixed by their own contractor?
I'm so frustrated!

Asda will have an insurance team who would likely deal with this so your best bet is to go to Head Office as opposed to the store or customer services

Vancouverorbust · 03/10/2021 19:24

@BrendaBubbles

If it’s a drystone wall and you’re farmers, can you just put it back together again? I imagine it’s fallen down rather than been entirely destroyed?
are you volunteering? Maybe you also do your own heart surgery and pull your own teeth out?

It is a highly skilled profession, often going back generations. building structures that will outlive us all. The competitions are gripping.

Mantlemoose · 03/10/2021 19:25

Just phone your insurers and give them the details. That's what you have insurance for isn't it?

LawnFever · 03/10/2021 19:29

I’d report it to your home insurance and let them deal with it.

LawnFever · 03/10/2021 19:29

@Newfluff

Take a pic of your sheep looking sad and tweet them. That will get thei attention.

Oh please please do this. Extra bonus points if you can get the sheep to fold their arms.

And this too Grin

From what I know about farmers (gleaned from Enid Blyton books) they can produce their own milk, smoke their own bacon, churn their own butter, cheese (I don't know what the term is here) their own cheese, build a haystack and then build a dry stone wall with the help of Sam Scubbitt. All before lunch, in a field (supplied in a spotted handkerchief)

lampygirl · 03/10/2021 19:37

Another one who’s just send it to your own insurers along with the footage/driver details etc and let them deal with it.

CovidCorvid · 03/10/2021 19:38

Can you fence it off with a bit of electric fencing in the mean time?

Seainasive · 03/10/2021 19:45

Parcel Force delivery driver took out part of my dry stone wall. I called head office, and asked for their fleet department. They asked me to email pictures and quotes and they paid up promptly.

HollowTalk · 03/10/2021 19:56

I would focus on getting somebody out to do it immediately. You have the footage and it's pretty clear that guy did it so Asda will definitely pay.

QuizzlyBear · 03/10/2021 20:37

Tesco delivered me a cracked bottle of bleach (not packed in a separate bag) last year and when I unpacked my shopping I put it on my dining table without noticing.

The bleach stripped all the varnish off the table in a patch - when I complained to Tesco they asked me to get a French polisher to quote for fixing it (a few hundred!) and paid up almost straightaway. Actually they were pretty fantastic about it. They even paid me for the top I was wearing, which ended up with a bleach mark on the sleeve!

Thanks everyone. I have indeed bodged a repair and the sheep are back out now. I think it'll be about £400 for the repair. I have no clue how to do it, DH can, just about but it need a proper skilled repair as the it's the corner bit. I don't have any social media but I'll email them with the video and a threatening tone later. Thanks

@QueeniesCroft - yes, a fine collection of old bits and bobs all bound securely with bailer twine Grin
The ewes are no problem but we have a very frisky shearling ram arriving imminently and that is a different story....

Thanks.

bellabasset · 04/10/2021 09:04

If you're insured with the NFU let them deal with it. There must be damage on the van as well.

Why on Earth should she have to? 🙄

I forgot we live in a litigious works now where everything has to go through the system and be blamed on someone. Back in my day we’d just fix something and get on with it.

Why on earth should katemuff be out of pocket because someone else destroyed their wall? I'm genuinely curious.

Back in the days before seeking fair compensation through insurance was a thing communities would resolve this their own way.

If you damaged something belonging to someone else you paid them back for the expense...either through manual labour or hard cash. This was true for my father and was true for me (I damaged the neighbour's glasshouse accidently - the neighbour had free labour from me until I'd 'worked back' the cost).

Insurance is necessary in a world where communities don't really exist in the same way anymore and those without morals who think it's fine to damage property without repercussions get away with inflicting financial duress on others without consequence. Getting all snippy about insurance speaks more of your character than it does someone who uses it for the purpose designed.

daisyjgrey · 04/10/2021 12:15

My parents often have vans and trucks scrape against their house wall and one has knocked down a portion of their front wall. It's always a faff to get hold of the company, the bigger the company the worse they are to get hold of. But once you're in then it's normally a case of getting the work done and then they reimburse.

Highly annoying though.

RainRainGoAway12 · 04/10/2021 12:32

My car was scuffed along the side by a Tesco van once (whilst I was sat in it!) The driver gave me a pre-printed sheet with his details and all the insurance details on it. Despite many, many attempts at getting through to any of the email addresses/telephone numbers, I didn’t get anywhere. Gave up in the end.

bakingdemon · 04/10/2021 12:38

Which team at Asda are you calling? I would start escalating this to the central HQ. If you use social media I'd also consider tweeting them with an extract from the video (be prepared for lots of people to see it!) asking them to take action

katemuff · 04/10/2021 13:02

I called Asda again - on hold for 30 mins then told I'd get a call back. HA! I am so frustrated. I can't find any other numbers or emails on line.

@BrendaBubbles thanks for your confidence in me, I do appreciate it. Unfortunately, despite a robust work ethic, I do not have time to partake in a 2-3 year dry stone walling apprenticeship in order to master this most noble of crafts. I could do the 6 week CROWS course but can't afford it, perhaps I could do a go fund me for that, so that Asda are let of the hook. I wonder if he'd have stopped if the wall had collapsed into the field and maimed or killed a sheep.... still mustn't make a fuss eh?

Do you know where I can get contact details? I'm struggling to find anything.... Thanks
