I used to get away with a £3 toy from Home Bargains but that doesn't seem to cut it anymore. Looking for new suggestions.

Surprise Dessert delivery

thinkfast · 03/10/2021 12:28

I made an apple crumble for the first time in ages last week. My kids were absolutely THRILLED!

Hellyeahbaby · 03/10/2021 12:31

I'm I'm stickler for us all eating round the table, no devices, and talking about our day so if I allow my 7 year old to eat at the breakfast bar watching something on Alexa whilst she eats she is the happiest kid in the world Grin

@ghostyslovesheets

carrot sticks and some diluted juice once a month - don't want to over indulge them

actually DD1 - some nice pants or cans of Malibu cocktails, DD2 a retro t shirt or cash, DD3 money for crystals or a desert shop delivery

Confused once a month!!!! That's is definitely not an overindulgence!!!

A train magazine and a trip on a 195.

SirenSays · 03/10/2021 12:49

A trip to Krispy Kreme or an Oreo milkshake.
New nail polishes, especially glittery ones.
Their favourite is visit to our local bookshop, we each get a new hardback book and then we'll sit and read them in the cafe with giant hot chocolates that have whipped cream, flakes and malteasers on top.

Eating dinner in front of the tv

shreddednips · 03/10/2021 13:49

A trip to the bakery to choose a bun or a piece of cake. He's 2 1/2. I also enjoy it Grin

Sinthie · 03/10/2021 14:14

Sleeping together (them, not me) in a home-made indoor den after movie night with sweets, crisps and popcorn.

MenaiMna · 03/10/2021 14:20

Mine used to love a Freddo while we sat in the drive through car wash. It's an an actual robot! And while you're there you can test how loud you can sing or scream or laugh.

BrilliantBetty · 03/10/2021 14:23

No much honestly. Having a friend round after school for a play date.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 03/10/2021 14:26

Krispy Kreme donuts, disney subscription or a takeaway.

Pumpkinseedpesto · 03/10/2021 14:27

We had a go making the jammie dodgers recipe from last weeks “great British bake off” as a treat. Oh my goodness, the excitement from the kids was unreal.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 03/10/2021 16:43

When I was a kid I was very easily pleased. Ultimate treat was being allowed to go up to the loft! It was all about climbing the ladder. NB there was absolutely nothing of interest up there. That made no jot of difference.
Also remember a time (these things always happened when dad was in charge) he took us to the shop, bought us each a packet of balloons, blew them all up and filled the play room with them. We thought he had recreated Fun House! Genius! A whole afternoons entertainment for £2!

Ds 5, a new monster truck

Dd 3, her own tub of twiglets that she doesn’t have to share. Usually only happens on Easter, her birthday and christmas

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 03/10/2021 19:18

@grey12

Clearly she was joking!

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 03/10/2021 19:18

Perhaps you were too?!

FreeBritnee · 03/10/2021 19:20

God I don’t know. A general treat would be a toy, a McDonald’s, screen time etc. An extraordinary treat would probably be a trip to a theme park.

Haha...similar to mine. I made a blackberry crumble with blackberries the dc had gone and picked themselves. They were ridiculously pleased with it 😂 We do this once or twice a year in September when the blackberries are out and they look forward to it for ages!

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 19:23

A banana milkshake!
They’re not even little, they’re 12 and 15 but they always find it an extra special treat even though there are many things I’d deem as loads more treaty!
They like it with Kelly’s clotted cream ice cream, milk and fresh bananas all blitzed in the blender.
They always get so excited when I make them.

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 19:26

@Thecathouse “dada juice” and it being their celebration for him being off the next day is the cutest thing ever!

Beseen22 · 03/10/2021 19:30

This is such a lovely thread.

Eldest- getting to go to the shop after school. Going out for a meal (literally anywhere...he puts his fancy shirt and shoes on).

Baby- uninterrupted 20 minutes at the sink getting to play with the tap.

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 03/10/2021 19:36

Squirty cream.

Or the cat designing to grace one of their beds with his presence. That one's not really a gift in my giving however...
They're also obsessed with going swimming. I joined a gym last month for the first time and have been taking them swimming 2 or 3 times a week since then and they love it. It always used to be a hugely rare event because the public pools round here are both gross and oversubscribed so I never bothered. Novelty value hasn't worn off yet!

ichundich · 03/10/2021 19:41

Luxury hot chocolate using fresh whipped cream, full fat milk and marshmallows with some nice biscuits, movie night, camping in the bedroom, playing "hotel" with my daughter, bonfire toasting smores/marshmallows.
