I used to get away with a £3 toy from Home Bargains but that doesn't seem to cut it anymore. Looking for new suggestions.

Domino's pizza here for teens.

Peace43 · 03/10/2021 09:53

A bath bomb from lush maybe or a chance to dig out the candifloss machine. However mine is 10 and really easy going so I don’t bribe her but we do do things we both like on the weekend. Swimming is her all time favourite.

My DS always loved eating out. But a hot chocolate with cream was always his favourite!

As he got older I tried not to buy stuff so much (although still did) so a treat would be going somewhere for an adventure. That's not cheap though.

isthismylifenow · 03/10/2021 09:57

It was always tradition that after the last day of each term, on the way home we would stop at KFC and get a soft serve ice cream. It was the start of the holidays when they were eating that ice cream.

Cheap as chips, so not about the money at all.

I do miss those days. They are 22 and 19 now. We do go for ice cream every now and then on the very rare occasion that the 3 of us are travelling somewhere together.

Although I don't know how well that would have worked the past 18 months, as the ice cream machine never works now Hmm. Covid has been blamed for that one.

Imo these 'traditions' just happen. It's not a planned thing.

@reallyimeanreally2022 Happy, it’s nice to be able to give them things other people take for granted and can buy any time

I do think they have a better appreciation of things that were treats to us as children but have become everyday in their generation food wise

Woeismethischristmas · 03/10/2021 09:58

Going out for tea and cake. They love going up to the counter to choose.

Practicebeingpatient · 03/10/2021 09:58

I asked my DD that very question when she was about 7. Her idea of the best possible treat was to stay up late, eating chocolate and watching grown up tv. With a little judicious tv censoring it became a tradition for us and I have such happy memories of those evenings. Her little sister liked a trip to a local steak house or to go to Yo sushi. Happy days.

@EatYourVegetables

Baking together and then eating what we made in front of the TV.

Extra points because between choosing what to make, cycling to the shop to get ingredients, making it, eating and clearing up, it can eat up half a weekend day.

I love that. The whole day is taken care of.

No I meant
As you are coeliac!!!

JennyForeigner · 03/10/2021 10:17

'Breakfast for dinner' (pancakes)

Afternoon play in the bath with lots of toys

Oh who am I kidding, fruit roll-ups and mango juice

Goldbar · 03/10/2021 10:22

Chocolate lollipop
Slime
Trip to soft play
Being carried upstairs upside down
Being given a carrot to peel (although there's usually no carrot left at the end)

trilbydoll · 03/10/2021 10:24

Sitting in the front seat in the car, a very rare and exclusive treat for them Smile

Simonjt · 03/10/2021 10:38

A yes day, luckily he is fairly easily pleased so there haven’t been any wild or expensive requests yet.

PuntasticUsername · 03/10/2021 10:47

A HotWheels car. I'm pretty sure he's now got every single one they've ever made, but apparently he still needs more Hmm

Tomnooktoldmeto · 03/10/2021 10:48

@Reallyimeanreally2022 we all feel fine, the chip shop cleans down and changes the oil ready for Sunday and has had it certified safe for coeliacs as less than 20 parts per million on lab tests

So far we’ve never been glutened and we’re all severely coeliac so happy to eat them, they use glu to go batters and will cook fish to order although we’re vegetarian so only have chips

Shimy · 03/10/2021 10:49

It’s used to be the brand new Argos catalogue in our house. They would spend hrs pouring over it, marking all the toys they would like. I miss those days.

ShoesEverywhere · 03/10/2021 10:51

Frozen peas as a snack. But mine are 7 and 4 Wink

Ponoka7 · 03/10/2021 10:54

My GC like a day doing craft activities, followed by a movie night. A trip to soft play/bounce place. My eldest GC loves a roast dinner.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/10/2021 10:55

When I was little, one of my favourite things to do was to be in the car when it went through the car roof. I have a panoramic roof on my car and still find it quite exciting 😂

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/10/2021 10:56

*car wash

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/10/2021 10:56

When I make brownies or trail mix cookies instead of my usual bara brith and shortbread and the cake tins are full of 'the good stuff' as my DS14 puts it... 😂

Ooh I used to love this too! My mum didn't drive but I used to beg my grandad to go through the car wash whenever I was in his car :) happy times!
WithMyEncyclopedia · 03/10/2021 11:11

When we go on holiday (in uk) they have a variety pack of cereal that they get really excited about! They're only little though.

georgarina · 03/10/2021 11:15

I have a big box of gummy sweets in the cupboard and for a treat (bribe) DS3 is allowed to pick one.
