To think this is just bloody rude?!

Invited friends round for drinks tonight. So far, they're 40 minutes late with no text to let us know why. If I'm even going to be 5 minutes late I'll let the person whose house I'm going to know I'm going to be late.

Would I be unreasonable to tell them not to bother coming? This has just pissed me off tbh.

@Looubylou

I have a friend who is always about 40 mins late - though she does text/ring to apologise and update. It is annoying but not something to fall out about if they are lovely otherwise.
Why can't she set off 45 minutes earlier

All she is doing is telling you that your time is not as important as her time

KrisAkabusi · 02/10/2021 09:47

It's really rude to start a thread about an ongoing event and not tell us the outcome!

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/10/2021 09:48

Yes (assuming they’re ok?, can you check?) rude, especially if you’ve cooked.

ChamberofSecrets69 · 02/10/2021 12:32

@Lessofallthisunpleasantness

Have they arrived? If only we could set off a Mumsnet alarm to go off on Chambers computer, flashing lights and wailing "Mumsnet alert' ' Mumsnet alert, she was on here bitching and moaning about you being late half an hour ago".

I am sure they are all having a lovely evening now. At least she managed to satisfactorily kill the waiting time. I would still have been cleaning up the house and emptying the dishwasher. If I invite people round and they dare to be on time, I am usually still in the shower.

Hmm

They showed up just under an hour late. I did tell them that it wouldn't be a late one, as it was just a catch up with a few drinks, and had to get up to DC in the morning.

No apology or text to say they would be late, just that they got lost.....

Heaven forbid I should be busy and not able to update Mumsnet every 5 minutes, the horror!! My goodness 😂😂

I dunno. With my friends, drinks on a Friday is pretty casual. I’d not be sitting there fretting they had not arrived. I’d just be enjoying a glass of wine and watching the telly till they turned up. But then I wouldn’t expect anyone round for drinks before 8.

What time did they leave?

I think it is rude but I also think it is rude to slag your Friends off on a popular site to a load of strangers. Attention seeking.

Oh the irony.

I was thinking the exact same 😂😂 @SirChenjins

An hour late is very rude IMO.

Summersun2020 · 02/10/2021 16:50

You sound uptight OP. I expect my friends to arrive not before the time I’ve told them but at some point after. Like a PP I’m usually still getting ready.

Christ knows how you got to ‘you need a shag’ from that - unless you’re 14.

OP - in case you were wondering, you don’t, but I imagine you already knew that.

Laiste · 02/10/2021 17:44

So many posters saying they'd still be getting ready or in the shower at the time they'd asked guests to arrive Confused

I'm so confused!

So it's not the done thing to arrive at the time you're given? How late are you meant to be??

I have to say my Inlaws are ALWAYS late to everthing. Drives us up the bloody wall. You say 12ish and they'll arrive at 1 or 2. We're waiting to go out for food and fucking starving! Nowadays we ask them to come about 2 hours before we actually need/want them to be here and it tends to work out. Just don't get it though.

It makes absolutely no sense to me tbh. If you're going to be in the shower, it seems so ridiculous to ask people to arrive at the time you mentioned 🙄 so why not say an hour later? 🤷‍♀️
