To feel a bit disgusted by this

NC as this is potentially outing.

My DS attends a specialist provision for children with profound, severe and complex needs. Many of the children in the building are reliant on wheelchairs and some have very limited mobility, understanding or communication. Many are attended by nurses every day at school, as they are immunosuppressed. Every single child in the building, age 3-18, is disabled in some way.

Many children will have had the jab already, due to being extremely clinically vulnerable. Nearly every parent/guardian is a carer and would have been in one of the first six groups to receive the vaccine. Staff were vaccinated early too, due to the nature of the setting.

So why the actual fuck did anti vax protestors choose to stand outside their school and picket today?

I am actually heartbroken that they could be so cruel and thoughtless. Our school community has been hit very hard by covid, some of our children have been orphaned by it.

None of the children in the building are really capable of understanding the picket, it just frightened a lot of them.

It just felt like being spat on tbh. I asked them why they were targeting a school full of disabled children and they jeered at me. It's so depressing.

I don't really understand what they were looking to achieve, are they that ignorant that they wouldn't know that everyone was highly likely vaccinated by now at the school? The fact they are v concerned about everyone so much that they shouldn't be vaccinated yet stayed and yelled at these children is cruel and somewhat hypocritical. I do think many of the anti vaxers are stupid as their actions do not tally with their concerns for others.

I would call the police if they appear again.

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2021 18:54

YANBU That is disgraceful. They should have been moved on. They have no idea how tough life is already for those kids and their families.

I wonder if they deliberately avoided a MS school - the kids round here wouldn't give them the time of day.

sakura06 · 01/10/2021 18:57

So sorry to hear this. What absolute scumbags. Did the school phone the police? Hope you and your DS are ok.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 01/10/2021 19:01

I'm so sorry this happened. How can people be so stupid? Love to your son

SmellyOldOwls · 01/10/2021 19:01

Genuinely I don't understand their point of view, the vaccine has been made available but no one has been forced to get it. Are they trying to deny us our choice to have medical care? And they actually think that's reasonable to do that?

Bunnycat101 · 01/10/2021 19:04

I have worked in a place that attracted protestors. It can be very unsettling as an adult let alone children with additional needs. Does show though if they had something worth listening to they’d have been sensible enough to have not picked such a bad and inappropriate location.

MakingM · 01/10/2021 19:08

YANBU. That’s terrible

Unsure33 · 01/10/2021 19:13

I would be fuming and writing to the local press and exposing them for the heartless Idiots that they are.

KindnessMyFriends · 01/10/2021 19:15

@MushMonster

To be honest I think the police should be removing any idiot who decides to campaign around schools, especially this lot. They have scared many children by now, they do not have a heart.
This. If they appear again could the police assist in moving them away from the childrens' view on safeguarding grounds? Things like this make you wonder what goes on in some folks' heads!
Groovee · 01/10/2021 19:19

That's horrific. Why choose such a venue? It's not like the children have any authority over things. If they have chosen to do it to upset the children then they need strung up.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 01/10/2021 19:19

Fucking hell, OP, those people are scum.

I'm sorry that you and your DC had to witness that.

Flowers for you.

TheStarMachine · 01/10/2021 19:20

I'm a meek middle-aged women who avoids confrontation at all costs but if I saw that at my child's setting I think I would lose my shit. What absolute jerks.

DreamingofTimbuktu · 01/10/2021 19:21

As per the pp because they are heartless scum who decided to try and bully some people who couldn’t shout back.

pompomsgalore · 01/10/2021 19:23

I wonder why they did choose your school. (Besides them being total dock heads of course.)

SquareWindow · 01/10/2021 19:24

They are absolute arsholes. Why would you think that’s acceptable? We’ll picketing outside any school especially yours or a primary is just going to frighten kids. I don’t understand their mentality.

x2boys · 01/10/2021 19:24

Thats awful op, my child also goes to a special school that has some children with profound and multiple learning disabilities, some are on oxygen tube fed etc
I would also be disgusted, ignorant dickheads

SquareWindow · 01/10/2021 19:24

Not you as in you Op, but you as in why would they think that’s acceptable.

toocold54 · 01/10/2021 19:25

This is awful but these people are angry at a non-compulsory vaccination - so there’s no way they’d have the brain cells to think about how it’s affecting the children.
I just hope they don’t have children themselves!!

Shieldingending · 01/10/2021 19:25

I work in the same type of school and would be devastated by this. My sympathies to you and your school community Flowers

RobinPenguins · 01/10/2021 19:25

How horrible, picketing schools full stop is shitty but especially in this case.

ufucoffee · 01/10/2021 19:26

Omg. That is horrible. What awful awful people.

toocold54 · 01/10/2021 19:26

I would be fuming and writing to the local press and exposing them for the heartless Idiots that they are.

I would too!
If they come again ring the local paper or take photos and send them into them.

Tal45 · 01/10/2021 19:27

Bunch of twats. Unfortunately you can't argue with stupid. I'm so sorry everyone was put through that.

SafeMove · 01/10/2021 19:28

Absolute arseholes.

I would ask them if they woukd picket workplaces with a less vulnerable demographic. Would they have mouthed off like this outside a building site or a rugby club for example? Cowards.

QuestionEverythingBaby · 01/10/2021 19:28

I don’t understand.
Why would they do that?
What would they hope to achieve? 🤔
