AIBU to think it is totally depressing that people arent willing to make even small changes to try and stop the environmental crisis that is here. For example, not wanting to use an eco programme on machines because it takes longer, not prepared to dry clothes outside rather than use a dryer, driving everywhere rather than walking. If people who could, made small changes, it would all add up and we might be able to halt some of the damage we are doing to the environment and childrens futures.

You are not being unreasonable !! Change has to start with everyone doing their best, we were waiting too long now for politicians or others to change. We always tried to do our best, never had a drier and never missed it !

@chocolateorangeinhaler

OP

Please do tell us all where you got the UK made pc or phone you sent this post from.

I'm assuming it was made in the UK because of air miles. I trust everything else in your home was produced in the UK, electronic goods, clothes, shoes, cars, bikes etc???

No you can't can you because you're a massive hypocrite. Whilst telling other people what to do.

Why don't you worry about you. Not what other people do in their own homes.

Wow how angry are you?! I’m not telling folk what to do, I’m saying it’s depressing that so many people don’t care. I do what I can and I know it’s not enough and that I could do more. I am going to try doing more and I get that people all live different life’s but so many people said they just didn’t care.

Have you tried to dry 4 loads of washing outside (October UK)?

It ain't happening!

woodhill · 03/10/2021 18:41

I've just dried 2 today

Mynextname · 03/10/2021 18:47

Many people barely have the mental health to keep themselves alive each day. They simply just don't have the mental capacity to take on anymore.

Macncheeseballs · 03/10/2021 18:49

Mynextname, so maybe they cut back on things like washing

thegreenlight · 03/10/2021 18:53

It is always the little person that has to go without or inconvenience themselves to make changes - I take one flight a year with my family but should feel guilty about, while business flyers sometimes make 50 or more to spend a day or so in the country! The mega rich with their sprawling 12 bedroom houses, private jets, mega yachts etc (I’m looking at you Megan and Harry) new clothes all the time, SUVs of bodyguards. They can make a massive difference but never do.

Careful, if they hear you talking about them, they will fly over on a private jet and start telling you to stop flying. Clowns.

The fact that they don't use eco wash doesn't mean they don't care. That's the problem with postings like this.
I care, I have draft proof garden which needs minimum water (bar some veg), I have it specially done for pollinators and other creatures. I use public transport when I can, I am mkndful of general energy use, don't have kids, don't buy unnecessary stuff and million other things. I don't waah on eco. Doesn't mean I don't care.

People need to get this into that thick head of theirs.
Everyone is doing something, if that something is not what you do, it doesn't mean they don't care. It just means they are doing something different.

Wazzzzzzzup · 03/10/2021 19:20

And them saying they don't care is usually reaction to threads like this telling them what to do. Makes some of us burn tires ffs

thebestnamesweregone · 03/10/2021 19:24

Who's driving outside!? It's October, drying in the house causes damp

grasstreeleaf · 03/10/2021 19:26

We dry inside. Always have. Always lived in pretty dry, well ventilated houses.

woodhill · 03/10/2021 19:26

I am, it wasn't too bad today, will continue to do so as long as possible

Bard6817 · 03/10/2021 21:03

How do i block this OP?

The electricity i will save in not reading anything they ever write, is me doing my bit for climate change.

holidaynearlyover · 03/10/2021 21:14

@Macncheeseballs

The length of the cycle doesn't really bother me, if I put a 2 hour cycle on a Sunday morning why is that unfeasible?
@Macncheeseballs my eco cycle is 5 hours!!!!!
Macncheeseballs · 03/10/2021 21:39

Holiday, I got the 2 hours from someone else's post

I think all machines are different, this is a newer machine and it's a nightmare, everything takes so long 😭
santabetterwashhishands · 03/10/2021 22:12

I'd love to be able to wash on low temperatures ,hang washing outside and iron instead of putting stuff in-the dryer to get the creases out BUT I have a disabled child who spills food on his clothes that need a hot wash to remove.
He needs changing often so creates a huge pile of laundry.
And he needs constant supervision so I can't be dodging the rain bringing washing in every two minutes.
So I will continue to use my dryer then I get 5 minutes to enjoy a hot coffee 🤷‍♀️

N1no · 04/10/2021 02:32

You mean the plastic bottles that we have exported to them for “recycling” even though they never had the facilities to do so?
We also export our processed foods in plastic packaging, including type 2 diabetes and they don’t have a waste management system like ours, just so that the western shareholders can get a bit richer.

This is what I'll be doing today. But only 3 washes. Not done any washing for over a week.
brushlaptop · 04/10/2021 11:31

Meghan is that you?

Gilly12345 · 04/10/2021 13:45

How am I supposed to get the family’s washing dried when I work full time, leave the house at 7am and home approx 5.30pm (Mon-Friday) and we have wet weekends? Ok good in Summertime but very difficult the rest of the year.

DirtyDancing · 04/10/2021 13:51

Honestly I have made quite a few little changes like this. Hoping they would all add up. But it really does feel like pissing into the wind some days.

If everyone in the UK did their washing on eco cycle, what would be the collective environment impact? Bit like the reusable coffee cup thing it needs a big, impactful narrative to get people to know it all adds up and is worth a collective effort. Having a go at people doesn't create change

DirtyDancing · 04/10/2021 13:52

@brushlaptop

Meghan is that you?
🤣
roses2 · 04/10/2021 13:57

I use the delay timer on my washing machine to load the night before and have it ready for 7am to hang up first thing. Unless you live in a flat and don't want to disturb neighbours I genuinely don't understand why more people don't do this. The eco program saves you money and stops your washing machine bearings from getting knackered!
