Bit of a long winded one sorry!!

My 2 year old son is having issues down below.

He's red raw and blistering and complaining about it being sore. (Don't blame him it looks horrendous)

This has been going on for a week now, he's not sleeping at night because it's sore and itchy and is itching it like mad! He is now hating have his nappy changed or going in the bath it's traumatising!!

I phoned the doctors today and got a student who said take photos of it and send them through! I absolutely refused as I wouldn't take photos of my sons bits regardless. The doctors then said they had no appointments available and if I didn't send through photos then there was nothing they could do.

Aibu to not send photos to a email address???

Actually, second writing to the MP - govt needs to know that this is a problem.

StrawberrySanta · 01/10/2021 09:07

I'm shocked they are asking you to email them in actually, I had to send photos of a rash on my child and it said in bold do not send photos of private areas. He's only 2 you should be invited in for a proper appointment. I would call back ask for an alternative, if they won't offer a face to face ask for a phone call and see if they'll prescribe something over the phone

StevieNix · 01/10/2021 09:14

Surely that’s illegal! To photograph a child’s genitals (even if taken for completely innocent reasons) and then send it someone is absurd! I would complain to the practise manager.

myheartskippedabeat · 01/10/2021 11:58

To be honest I had a gynae issue and had to do that
Once they've seen one they've seen them all was my theory they get hundreds of photos and I work in a hospital and we do aswell
I'm sure they won't give it a second thought and if it gets him sorted quicker I'd do it

Changechangychange · 01/10/2021 12:00

@Cbtb

It’s illegal.
Photos are children’s genitals taken for medical reasons are not “indecent images” from a legal perspective.
LynetteScavo · 01/10/2021 12:04

My GP says images will be stored in patient records and NOT to send photos of genitals, breasts or anus.

MoreAloneTime · 01/10/2021 12:30

I'm disturbed by how many people see sending intimate photos of themselves to the GP as normal and acceptable. I'd be mortified to do something like that.

Me too. Mind boggling Confused

It just goes to show how many people will blindly go along with what professionals say.

Caffeinefirst · 01/10/2021 12:45

The issue is not that medical professionals see these sort of photos all the time. The issue is that you are being asked to send the “in the clear” via email. It’s not secure! I hope you get an in person appointment.

I used to see “Daily Threat” emails every day 365 days a year. There is a daily war going on against hackers and criminals. The number and type of attempts are scary. Be careful and protective of your personal data. Just because it’s the NHS does not mean it’s safe. Weren’t they hacked recently and all their computers stopped working. Think that was because they were still using XP and hadn’t upgraded any of their operating software for years. No security patches leaving them very vulnerable.

Caffeinefirst · 01/10/2021 12:47

There is some personal data stuff you have to share with them. But personal photos of yourself or a child sent over email is not one of them!

rainbowdashsneeze · 01/10/2021 12:57

Thats making and distributing images on children. 100% no as it's against the law, call them back and ask to speak to the practise manager.

I would also take him to a walk in centre/A&E what you describe is very concerning to me!!

HollaHolla · 01/10/2021 13:50

@MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast

I would also write to your MP
About what?
Peaplant20 · 01/10/2021 14:49

Really useless saying it’s a secure system - many of those have been hacked numerous times in the past. How many times have there been news stories of data breaches etc? I would not be comfortable with it and wait for the next appointment.

Sockwomble · 01/10/2021 15:01

I don't understand why they didn't just get you to describe the rash. If it has gone from being red to pimply looking it is probably a fungal nappy rash.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 01/10/2021 15:59

It’s illegal to send or distribute photos of children under 16 so if refuse on that grounds and ask for face to face

I’d personally also tag them on SM and advise them they are refusing an appointment unless you break the law, frankly I’m sick of medical practices making excuses for their negligence in treating their patients!

TheHouseILiveIn · 01/10/2021 19:23

I wonder if any of the people on this thread saying 'what's the big deal?' have opted out of the recent government initiative to sell on your private data regarding consultations.

I've been very surprised in real Ife at the amount of people who shrug and say they've got nothing to hide and don't care if the government sell details of their consultations. This includes doctors I know Confused

This thread highlights how sensitive our consultations can be.

esloquehay · 01/10/2021 19:36

Why have you left it a week?!
