Would you get the vaccine if you were TTC?

Do you feel confident enough in the covid vaccines (any or all varieties) that you would take it if you were trying for a baby? A close family member is unsure and has come to me for advice but it's tricky to know what can/can't be trusted when looking online.

YABU- Yes I would
YANBU- No I wouldn't

Any links or advice would be very welcome. Please remember that not everyone is an expert, some of us have to rely on the information available to us and trying to find reliable sources is difficult when there's so much out there

Tell your family member to ask their GP. Much better to get advice from a medical professional who will be able to answer any questions they may have.

redandwhite1 · 30/09/2021 18:52

I did and now 18 weeks

She's asked but wasn't given much advice sadly, they pretty much told her she should get vaccinated but had little to no information on how it might affect her TTC.

I did and we’re TTC. Haven’t noticed any change to my cycle, despite some of the horror stories online.

Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 30/09/2021 18:57

All they say is:

There's no evidence the COVID-19 vaccines have any effect on your chances of becoming pregnant

TakeYourFinalPosition · 30/09/2021 18:58

Yes, and I got pregnant, and I’ve had another jab and baby is fine.

There’s a lot of research on this now, from the US mostly.

blueskyinjan · 30/09/2021 18:59

I got it. We’ve already been trying for three years so if anything it might help my situation Grin

This is what's most concerning, nothing ever says it as a fact, only that there's "no evidence".

Glad to hear some people have been successful after being vaccinated.

@blueskyinjan I hope it happens for you soon!

I did, no change to my cycle and now 7 weeks pregnant x

Tillysfad · 30/09/2021 19:05

I would absolutely not be getting pregnant without the vaccine. Your friend should be aware of how serious it is to get Covid while pregnant.

Slayduggee · 30/09/2021 19:07

Yes I would get it if I was ttc. I would mean that I would worry less when pregnant.

Dizzyhedgehog · 30/09/2021 19:09

Both DH and I have been fully vaccinated since about early April and we're currently going through ivf. Both my gynaecologist and the doctors at the clinic have been nothing but positive about it. They feel it's much safer this way.

Dishwashersaurous · 30/09/2021 19:09

The joint committee on immunisation - the actual experts in vaccination and the effects - advise that all adults including pregnant ladies should get the vaccine. The benefits of vaccination outweigh any risks

What more evidence does she need?

HermioneAndRoger · 30/09/2021 19:11

“This is what's most concerning, nothing ever says it as a fact, only that there's "no evidence".”

Your family member needs to weigh up the considerable evidence regarding Covid in unvaccinated pregnant women.

Rosesareyellow · 30/09/2021 19:12

Yes I would and I have. I had Covid before my vaccine and it’s no walk in the park - it’s certainly not something you want to catch when pregnant. Pregnancy can be exhausting anyway, add Covid to the mix and you’re in for a very miserable time.

SickAndTiredAgain · 30/09/2021 19:12

I did. I’m now 5 weeks pregnant.

Phobicmum · 30/09/2021 19:14

The risks of being pregnant (particularly in the third trimester) and getting covid are really great. I am currently pregnant and got both because of the evidence of the poor outcomes for pregnant women and their babies. If there are concerns about TTC after the vaccine I would prioritise getting that first and hold of TTC for a bit afterwards. My midwife was really good to talk to about it and there is advice on the official midwifery website as well. Of course personal preference though.

RosieLemonade · 30/09/2021 19:14

I had my first one when trying to conceive and second at 7 weeks pregnant.

Fuzzysocksies · 30/09/2021 19:17

I got my second while TTC and am now 24 weeks pregnant.
I’m so glad I did.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/09/2021 19:19

How old is this person ttc? My 20 year old dc has had both jabs since months ago. My 17 year old has had 1, just waiting for the 2nd.

Are they already a vaccine refuser?

gogohm · 30/09/2021 19:24

Unless they are 16, why aren't they already vaccinated? Sounds like they are vaccine hesitant, nothing to do with ttc. Tell them to speak to the nurse at their gps if they are concerned but it's far safer to get vaccinated. Covid is potentially more dangerous in pregnant women

abbs1 · 30/09/2021 19:26

Ive had both and got bfp 2 cycles after 2nd vaccine. There is no way I'd get pregnant without it. Ive heard so many devastating stories of prem babies etc when the mum has not had the jabs and caught covid and only way to save both mum and baby was to deliver early. Ive spoken to midwives and nhs staff who have all stressed the importance of having the jab to keep you and baby safe.

Gladioli23 · 30/09/2021 19:29

Let's be clear here, what "no evidence" that it impacts conception means is that they have compared the rates of those who received the placebo and those who received the vaccine in the trials and they got pregnant at the same rate. (Citation: Sarah Gilbert's book about Covid vaccine development)

Most of us would probably think that is evidence that it doesn't impact trying to conceive.

I feel like this is one of those things where scientists call things a theory that the rest of us would recognise as fact (e.g. evolution) and that wording choice causes confusion.

StampOnTheGround · 30/09/2021 19:35

Yes, I got the first one when we were actively TTC and then the second when I would have been around 5 weeks pregnant Smile

I'm now 12 and a half weeks!

Nibblonian · 30/09/2021 19:45

Yes, I did. Currently 20 weeks and all is well. Experienced clinician with public health background.
