Would you get the vaccine if you were TTC?

Do you feel confident enough in the covid vaccines (any or all varieties) that you would take it if you were trying for a baby? A close family member is unsure and has come to me for advice but it's tricky to know what can/can't be trusted when looking online.

YABU- Yes I would
YANBU- No I wouldn't

Any links or advice would be very welcome. Please remember that not everyone is an expert, some of us have to rely on the information available to us and trying to find reliable sources is difficult when there's so much out there

Yes, & I did.
I had a longer cycle the month after my second vaccine; 36 days rather than 28 - but it could have been stress or some other factor.

ContadoraExplorer · 30/09/2021 22:08

On app so can't vote but I did, first jag in fertile week and fell pregnant (after trying for 9 months after a chemical pregnancy). I had my second jag at 10 weeks. All progressing fine so far, 17+3 now.

I would have the vaccine. It's going to be impossible to avoid the highly contagious delta variant of covid for the whole of winter: we're all going to get exposed eventually. Covid is always going to be here. So the choice isn't vaccine or no vaccine, it's catching covid after being immunised or without having been immunised.

Covid can damage the placenta and has caused many premature births. I would want the vaccine.

Round here half of the intensive care unit is made up of pregnant women with covid who refused the vaccine. I would not want to be like them.

Bells3032 · 30/09/2021 22:23

Myself and two other friends all got pregnant within a month of our second vaccine. Two of us had infertility issues before that. I'm now 22 weeks and other two are now 16 weeks.

Take from that what you will

Hadenough21 · 30/09/2021 22:30

I had it while TTC, got pregnant a few weeks after my second dose. Like others have said there’s plenty of evidence that covid in pregnancy is dangerous, so for me it wasn’t much of a decision.

Tillysfad · 01/10/2021 02:31

I know of two extremely ill young pregnant women in ICU with Covid. If your relative isn't happy to take the vaccine while pregnant they should probably be holding off on the pregnancy, not the vaccine.

To the poster who said she shouldn't get the vaccine if pregnant because we don't know the neurological impact of the vaccine - get your priorities sorted. Covid is serious enough that you are weighing a negligible risk against the very real possibility of being delivered prematurely by c section because Mum is in a coma on a ventilator. And that premature baby will have Covid.

If I was TTC I would definitely get the vaccine. Because pregnant women seem to be more at risk from Covid.

pianolessons1 · 01/10/2021 06:15

Of course. You wouldn't want to be pregnant without it. Why has she waited so long?

Anon778833 · 01/10/2021 06:16

@Shelddd there is now clear evidence that pregnant women are at much more risk from Covid than previously thought.

I think you have to look at it that getting covid while pregnant could cause pregnancy complications or harm the baby. So with that in mind it is less risk to have the vaccine and minimise your risk of contracting the virus.

This is interesting. The same happened to me (kind of). Had been trying for over a year and been told it was unlikely I would conceive naturally, had my first jab first week of January, got my BFP first week of March. I didn’t get the second as per the advice at the time. Am now 35 weeks pregnant and all’s well, as far as we know Smile

One of DH's close friends is an ICU doctor. She said how distressing it was, the sheer number of pregnant women who were being admitted to her ward.

On top of that covid in unvaccinated pregnant women increases the risk of stillbirth.

I think the question is more 'why wouldn't you get vaccinated' than the opposite at this point.

Otherwise, delay TTC and get jabbed now then wait a few months.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2021 07:55

It has been reported in the press that numbers of pregnant women on ICU are extremely high and friend who works in ICU has confirmed it.

Why disbelieve some who says they know 2 pregnant women on ICU. If they are in a social circle where everyone is having babies its perfectly possible.

egglette · 01/10/2021 08:00

Started TTC between the first and second vaccines, and decided to go ahead with the second. At the appointment they asked (as usual) if I might be pregnant and passed me on to the duty doctor who said simply: "Great - either way, it will be best for you and baby for you to be vaccinated". I'll take it - as others have said, more information has since come out about the risks to pregnant women, and it's a worrying enough time without having to be super careful and/or isolate yourself a bit.

The risk is double same age group, which is a low risk group. A 30 year old pregnant woman is lower risk than a 50 year old non pregnant woman.

willithappen · 01/10/2021 08:10

Yes, actually heard of loads get pregnant right after taking it

BetsyBigNose · 01/10/2021 08:13

@Saoirse82 - congratulations, you must be so excited!

TheDuchessOfMN · 01/10/2021 08:15

It’s a running joke amongst our social group that Pfizer must have accidentally spilled something into the vaccine (because they make Viagra, and you know… that’s loosely connected to conception) 😂 we seem to be hearing non stop pregnancy announcements, the past few months

Anyway, like I said upthread… I wouldn’t even contemplate becoming pregnant without being protected against covid. Like someone else said, the delta variant is going to be unavoidable this winter

JonSnowsCloak · 01/10/2021 08:16

Yes - I've already been double jabbed and getting my booster today, currently trying to conceive. The risk to you and baby when catching covid is a lot worse than potential side effects. I know of at least two unvaccinated pregnant ladies who nearly died from covid, but I have a lot of friends who are currently pregnant post vaccine.

GoodnightGrandma · 01/10/2021 08:18

Yes. And I’d hopefully be passing immunity onto my baby who would be too young to be jabbed.

Snugglemuffins4me · 01/10/2021 08:22

Have conceived the same month I had my second vaccine .

racquel86 · 01/10/2021 08:22

After thinking I'd never conceive, I'd given up hope, I had the Pfizer as I felt I should being a nurse working on covid wards........ 4 weeks later I found out I was pregnant Smile

TheDuchessOfMN · 01/10/2021 08:30

Congratulations @racquel86 Smile

Tillysfad · 01/10/2021 09:44

shedd

I'm not going to respond to your comments because I don't think what you're saying should be given any air time. To everyone else who isn't shedd, do not become one of the unvaccinated pregnant women who are suffering today. Get the vaccine.
