To think the new James Bond shouldn't be a woman?

SummersOverSeasideTown · 30/09/2021 17:55

Kier Starmer- despite not knowing what a woman is- thinks the new Bond should be a woman.

Aibu to this will help sexual equality in the same way Insulate Britain are helping the climate change cause?

What we need are strong roles written and intended for women, by replacing a figure such as Bond all we do is further alienate the entrenched and worse create an idea that society is moving towards equality when really it is just smoke and mirrors?

@MrsTerryPratchett

Am I right that the Labour Party has never had an elected female leader? Only ever acting and then only very briefly. In more than 100 years of existence only about a year of a women acting as leader.

Do as I say, not as I do, Keir?

Shush or you will give hime ideas and he will start identifing as a woman
Mysterian · 30/09/2021 19:10

James Bond is male. He is currently 007.

Why not just make the same kind of film with Janet Butterworth as 005. (Name might need working on).

True. Shhhhhhhhhhhh.

Underamour · 30/09/2021 19:11

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. There are plenty of films with female leads. This is a successful franchise and I know everyone is bending over backwards to be woke but even with the most popular female action star - and I can’t think of any British ones- this would lose that essence that is Bond. Also, check out how well it went for Dr Who.

Underamour · 30/09/2021 19:11

Mysterian that’s actually a great idea.

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/09/2021 19:13

Leave Bond alone. Create a whole new female character operating in the Bond universe instead and make her unique with her own origins/backstory.

Lex345 · 30/09/2021 19:21

I really wanted Tom Hardy to be the next Bond, but Regé Jean Page would be pretty great. I don't think Bond should be a woman, but I liked pps idea of having a completely separate female spook character developed.

ColorMagicBarbie · 30/09/2021 19:21

I don't see any issues with this. Perhaps we can have a male Queen Victoria in the next period drama.

Pedalpushers · 30/09/2021 19:27

It is completely different to Dr Who, who is a shape shifting space alien.

I think they should just put Bond to rest entirely now. It's boring and outdated.

Pollypudding · 30/09/2021 19:29

@helpfulperson

I would love to see a film of judi dench's M in her youth as a field agent. But James bond is male.
Ooh that’s a great idea. Someone like Florence Pugh would be good and Judi Dench could be in it too - having flashbacks!! Agree Bond is definitely a man though.

Well we have already had a black Anne boyelyn so anythings game.

TAKE THAT BACK

GoingOutOutNEVER · 30/09/2021 19:35

Imagine the names she’s be called for having sex with as many men and James did women, plus of course she’d be Bi, because it’ll the a way for lesbian sex to be in Bond. Utterly boring and predictable

Autumngoldleaf · 30/09/2021 19:36

I think it's utterly ridiculous.

We don't have Henry playing miss Marple.
We simply have male detectives who are characters in their own right.

We don't have male Mary Poppins!

It's so bloody stupid and pointless.
Ian Fleming wrote about a man for goodness sake based on his own experience... Plenty of scope for new female roles we don't have to regurgitate this one.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 30/09/2021 19:40

I think that Starmer was thinking about the conversations about a female Dr Who, and a black James Bond, and got himself a bit mixed up whilst trying to take an easy opportunity to do a bit of good old virtue signalling. It highlights how he will say anything that he thinks will make him look good, even if it doesn't make sense.

Which kind of sums up the Labour Party generally right now.

WetShirtScene · 30/09/2021 19:42

I didn't like it when they cast Daniel Craig because he's blond and unattractive (imo) lol -- so I definitely wouldn't be in favour of Bond becoming a woman in a cheap attempt to score woke points. He's a tall, dark and handsome man.

Women don't want secondhand versions of iconic characters. It just smacks of laziness -- like the studios can't be bothered to find and finance fresh stories centred on women.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2021 19:43

It doesn't make Starmer look good though, it just makes him look fatuous.

Againstmachine · 30/09/2021 19:44

Oh dear starmer got mixed up, is this who you want as next leader.

SummersOverSeasideTown · 30/09/2021 19:45

@Wazzzzzzzup

I am bit tired if women getting leftovers or shit remakes.

There are so many amazing female characters🙄 Fucking utilise them. Be original, make something new

This articulates my feelings much better than I do.

Starmer is virtue signalling, and as with the "cervix" debate is out of touch with ordinary people. Like most politicians, I doubt he believes half the things he says, but says what he thinks is popular with voters.

But if we're going down this road, what next - Superman played by a woman and Wonder Woman by a man?

mustlovegin · 30/09/2021 20:46

YANBU OP

It's exhausting how the woke brigade are constantly trying to 'push boundaries' and 'redefine' everything. Being disruptive for the sake of it in order to make a point

Yes it’s so stupid.

Plus if they wanted a ‘female’ Bond why not just create a new series based on one, maybe do something new and different for once ….

Duchess379 · 30/09/2021 20:55

Absolutely should not be a woman! I'm all for women having these sort of roles - Atomic Blonde with Charlize Theron springs to mind, but Bond was written as a Scottish male. End of...

Kittii · 30/09/2021 20:58

I think Bond should be a man but don't think he needs to be white.

What does it mean that Starmer said Bond should be a woman? He thinks the word woman includes men so how can you tell what he actually means by this? Does he mean a woman with a penis and beard?
