To think the new James Bond shouldn't be a woman?

Kier Starmer- despite not knowing what a woman is- thinks the new Bond should be a woman.

Aibu to this will help sexual equality in the same way Insulate Britain are helping the climate change cause?

What we need are strong roles written and intended for women, by replacing a figure such as Bond all we do is further alienate the entrenched and worse create an idea that society is moving towards equality when really it is just smoke and mirrors?

@TSSDNCOP

Occasionally it would be refreshing to hear a politician not take a view on every single thing.

Keir, should the next James Bond be a woman.

Well, interviewer it's not something I really care about which is a good job as I'm not a film Producer and the people that are have already said no. Anyway, back to the shit show week the entire UK have experienced that is what I really bloody ought to have an opinion on how to fix, but don't because I am spending so long trying to appease people in my party.

Agree and with DoNotGetaDog although I don't agree with that.

Well put OP.

The character James Bond was created as a man, end of story. And the person who said "only women have a cervix" was 100% right.

YupIFreakilyHave · 30/09/2021 18:33

@helpfulperson

I would love to see a film of judi dench's M in her youth as a field agent. But James bond is male.

Yes, that film would be awesome, if done right.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 30/09/2021 18:34

YANBU. A female James Bond would be a travesty.

waybill · 30/09/2021 18:34

Perhaps Starmer needs to move aside and hand the Labour leadership to a person with a cervix woman.

And no, James Bond needs to be a man. It would be ludicrous to think otherwise. What next? Mrs Bean?

Judging which films and TV without seeing them works pretty well for me Grin

Great idea. It could be set in the Cold War, & she could be under diplomatic cover at the British embassy in Berlin. I would buy a ticket for that.
YukoandHiro · 30/09/2021 18:37

It won't be. Don't waste any time thinking about this.

seaandsandcastles · 30/09/2021 18:37

YANBU. Bond is a man. It would be lazy to take a woman and shoehorn her into Bond.

If people want amazing roles for women, write amazing roles for women.

Yarboosucks · 30/09/2021 18:40

A desperate man trying to find ways to signal how down with the feminists he is, and getting it wrong, again!

James Bond is a man with a comprehensive back story. End of.

We do not need to adopt males roles. We should just have good, comparable female roles.

This kind of gesture (because that is all it is) dilutes any serious discussion. He knows this full well. Who does he thinks this nonsense will appeal to? It repels me.

MMM2 · 30/09/2021 18:41

I agree we don't need to infiltrate male roles to assert our rights, bond is a man and should finish with Daniel Craig.

SarahBellam · 30/09/2021 18:42

Bond is boring and tired. The role isn't good enough for a woman. I'd love to see some really great kick ass roles played by fantastic intelligent women - Kate Winslett, Emma Thompson, Leslie-Anne Brandt...there are tonnes of actresses who could kick the shit out of Bond. They need their own movies.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/09/2021 18:44

I think if you want a realistic sociopathic killer whose extreme violence is minimised and glamourised by everyone around them, then you need a man.

callingon · 30/09/2021 18:45

Yeah I absolutely do not think a female Bond would be a win for representation. I don’t think he has to be white though. Henry Golding would be an amazing Bond.

Yarboosucks · 30/09/2021 18:51

James Bond comes from an old Scottish family! He is white!

A black spy should have their own role created.

Make the pool of roles and characters wider and more diverse, there are no limits!

callingon · 30/09/2021 18:53

I actually know a laird who married a Palestinian so no reason being from an old Scottish family = white in 2021 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would suspect Bond would also have aged since the 1960s too

elgreco · 30/09/2021 18:55

Bond is a man. A woman spy would be good but it should be a new character.

I agree with PP who said Melissa McCarthy was great. Not a copy. A different story.

MushMonster · 30/09/2021 18:58

I actually thought that a woman as the new 007 would be a good change indeed.
Like having a woman as jedi in Star Wars final films and discovering that Leia had control over the force too.
Just making sure they got the memo that women are owning their place in all areas these days.

GreyhoundG1rl · 30/09/2021 18:59

No, I totally agree, it's pointless; just to score some woke points.
As for Starmer, when he's able to explain what he thinks a woman actually is, his view might be remotely relevant.

Bunnycat101 · 30/09/2021 19:01

The character of Bond is a man. I think it would be ridiculous to make it a woman. I think they could have a female lead within the bond universe and I’d enjoy they sort of story.

Wazzzzzzzup · 30/09/2021 19:02

I am bit tired if women getting leftovers or shit remakes.

There are so many amazing female characters🙄 Fucking utilise them. Be original, make something new

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/09/2021 19:05

Am I right that the Labour Party has never had an elected female leader? Only ever acting and then only very briefly. In more than 100 years of existence only about a year of a women acting as leader.

Do as I say, not as I do, Keir?
