Obviously I was in love with him when I was about 10 (more than a few decades ago)! Completely forgot about A-Ha. But just today, I heard his song “Stay on these Roads” randomly on the radio. I knew it was him - what type of voice does he have? I never noticed as a child. So unusual. How does he sing like that?

Oh, and it has been suggested his vocal range was five octaves at least at one point in life. The take on me vocals have a range of around 2 and a half on their own.

Possibly slightly controversial here but Pål > Magne nod.

HansSolo22 · 30/09/2021 20:13

Oh wow that song 🧡. I remember how much I loved him when I was young but him singing that song in the link posted - just wow!!

tinselvestsparklepants · 30/09/2021 20:13

Tom Adams reminds me of him - Come on Dreamer is worth a Spotify!

SheWoreYellow · 30/09/2021 20:14

Oh my @Oblomov21 can you tell us any more?

ReuniteTracyandEliska · 30/09/2021 20:16

I always thought it was the accent/inflection that made his voice interesting.

Such a magically beautiful face he had too. In his youth he was almost otherworldly.

Definitely still fine as hell!

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 30/09/2021 20:16

He is beautiful and his voice is incredible

SwedishEdith · 30/09/2021 20:17

@Oblomov21

@Disabrie22

Can’t he span an octave or something? He’s got an incredible range
Five octaves, which is really impressive! Your average person can do around 3.

That MTV Live version of Take on Me made me cry. Thank you to whoever shared it. I didn't know today was going to be an emotional day but apparently it is.

deeplyambivalent · 30/09/2021 20:31

God, looking at him makes me feel so old and ugly.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 30/09/2021 20:32

The saddest Sad lyrics...

We sit and watch umbrellas fly
I'm trying to keep my newspaper dry
I hear myself say
"My boat's leaving now"
So we shake hands and cry
...

I once touched all their hands at a signing of something in Piccadilly Circus. I was only about 10 and we didn’t wash our hands for a week.

It’s funny when you look back at 80s pop states you had teen crushes on as an adult and you realise their success was actually more than just being a teen sensation because they were actually amazing singers. But as a child you don’t notice that really.

Now I see he has been married twice. I was just scrolling YouTube. He was on ‘Mr and Mrs’ with his current wife Grin.

His personality is quite unusual too. I think he is quite religious? He comes across as a bit other-worldly.

I'm glad you all love my husband so much 😜

SwedishEdith · 30/09/2021 20:44

Hasn't he got about 5 kids?

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 30/09/2021 20:45

Aha are slightly before my time and he is more than 20 years older than I am but I find him utterly mesmerising and so beautiful.

an80smoment · 30/09/2021 20:48

Yes my research suggests he has 5 kids. One son looks very like him but blond (though the photo is blurry).

Maybe it was just me then that didn't know it was him on the Masked Singer? Singing his own song was a bluff / double bluff as nobody does that. Certainly fooled me. I didn't remember the whole panel guessing either. Must pay more attention!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 30/09/2021 20:49

Kolla welcome to the 80s Grin

Rhannion · 30/09/2021 20:54

@HemanOrSheRa

Oh I saw A-Ha at the Bristol Colston Hall in January 1987. I was 14. I touched Morten's hand and wrist bands. Sigh.

Dixiechickonhols OMD are AMAZING live! I saw them a couple of years ago and danced so hard one of my boobs fell out of my bra Grin.

We are going to see OMD in November and I can’t wait! I’ll make sure to wear a tight top after what happened to you 😂
an80smoment · 30/09/2021 20:58

Don’t know if this link will work but this is an acoustic version if ‘Stay on these Roads’ from YouTube. Heard this on the radio today and it took me right back...

I met him as I am friends with one of his ex partners and whenever I met him he was an absolute self important prat. Once I knew him just a little, he was not beautiful at all 🤮

Charmatt · 30/09/2021 21:07

Remember him? Never, ever forgot him! He is the greatest singer ever!

He has continued to make music since the 80s, with A-ha and solo work. He has a falsetto voice and can hold a note for 20 breaths.

Listen to some of A-ha's later albums - they are fantastic. Is Album, 'Brother's is amazing.

Also - you should listen to the song, 'Summer Moved On". It shows his range and ability to hold a note wonderfully - when he sings it live, it is awesome!

....and, yes! I still want to marry him!

IdblowJonSnow · 30/09/2021 21:09

He can still really sing too. I've seen them twice in the last 5 or 6 years. Smile

PippaOwl · 30/09/2021 21:10

I do like his voice but sometimes it's a bit .... weedy? Reedy?

I'll show myself out Grin
