It's lovely. In fact, I'd say it's better than the cream that it once was.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 29/09/2021 19:43

We like the lilac too. When DH read me the story, I expected to find the house was bright purple and that "lilac" was the owner trying to downplay it. But no, the house is actually a lovely pale lilac, not at all out of keep or detracting from the local area.

I wonder if the Council would object to a pale grey, seeing as grey is a favourite colour of the masses right now ...

Almaisnormal · 29/09/2021 19:49

a backhander to the council should sort it

Wazzzzzzzup · 29/09/2021 19:52

It's for watford borough council to pretend they give a fuck
Now please, no offence who lives there, the houses weren't built by people...

Give a fick about a pretty fugly street?🙈 I would honestly get it if it were 1, 2 styles, of some importance architecturally, but this...
I am pretty sure some of the houses have pebbledash on. That ahould absolutely not be preserved 😂

Almaisnormal · 29/09/2021 19:55

The council have destroyed so much...its just to appear that they care

Aprilx · 29/09/2021 19:57

It looks awful and out of place.

Wazzzzzzzup · 29/09/2021 19:58

@Aprilx

It looks awful and out of place.
I agree. Now they have to make the others nice too
Sciurus83 · 29/09/2021 19:58

I like it too!

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/09/2021 19:59

It looks lovely. All those bloody bins are far more harmful to the look of area.

OriginalLilibet · 29/09/2021 20:17

I would be more interested in whether the owner and his neighbour applied and were granted permission for their awful plastic windows which are far more detrimental to the character and appeal of the house and area.

lilacdinosaur · 29/09/2021 20:24

Oh I love it!
I could understand if it was an absolute eyesore but it's a muted colour and the house/garden is well kept so what is their issue.

AuntieObnoxious · 29/09/2021 20:24

I thought the house looked lovely painted lilac. It’s not an overpowering colour and I couldn’t see why it was such a problem. It made me smile, which after the last couple of years we’ve all had is something we should be aiming for, rather than making people feel miserable.

gigi556 · 29/09/2021 20:51

I love it!

I don't know how you could buy a house and not now it's a in a conservation area though?

Radziwill · 29/09/2021 21:00

I like it! It adds a bit of character.

LidlMiddleLover · 29/09/2021 21:27

Ice than the utility brick next door that looks like married quarters housing

AlthoughTheyFlyByJumboJet · 29/09/2021 21:32

Looks okay to me, too. Some people are afraid of colour. Seem to think it's sinful or something... Might give people "ideas"! Wink

MrsClatterbuck · 29/09/2021 21:38

Where I live people have painted their houses purple yellow red and green to mention a few colours. Oh and I forgot the pink.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 29/09/2021 22:34

I just googled earth that road.
They are having a laugh. Conservation? Negative effect on the character of the area? 🤣🤣🤣

It's a perfectly nice, ordinary street. It's not exactly Edensor though is it?

FangsForTheMemory · 29/09/2021 22:40

Wonder what they'd think of some of these? londonist.com/2016/08/in-photos-london-s-most-colourful-streets

BecauseMyRingBurnsSheila · 29/09/2021 22:44
  1. In the council's defence a homeowner should know they live in a conservation area and understand the restrictions it places on them (and to a PP who said there was a council who said you can paint your house whatever you like in a conservation area that council was wrong)

  2. But the lilac is lovely

  3. Councils need to understand that human beings live in conservation areas and it's not about living in the past but preserving the character of an area. Not keeping everything the same for evermore.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/09/2021 22:45

Bristol has plenty of colourful houses

I like it too

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 29/09/2021 22:48

The lilac is horrible. It is a dreadful colour (along with Cadbury purple) that should be banned everywhere, let alone on one street Grin

StrawberrySquash · 29/09/2021 22:49

I lived in a normal south London house that was painted a bluer version of that. It looks perfectly fine.
