To think this is more than a hangover?

I had a very heavy weekend which isn't usual for me. I was visiting my friend in Manchester, Friday night I had a bottle of wine - bed by 1 am. Saturday night I had a lot more, not sure exactly how much but consisted of over a bottle of wine and numerous vodkas - bed by 4 am. Sunday night I had 2 and a half bottles of wine - bed by 5 am. I haven't been right since. Even today I've woken up from a dead sleep, sweating and so so tired. I am 29 and have had a two day hangover before but never this bad, I have no motivation to do anything. I feel like my mental as well as physical health has really taken a hit.

AIBU to think this isn't normal to still be feeling the effects 3 days later?

Ohhh yes that sounds very familiar. I quit drinking for good in my early 30s after one too many three-day hangovers! Hope you feel better soon and that it isn’t anything more serious but unfortunately yes, it sounds like you just can’t drink like that any more and bounce back like you may have done ten years ago!

Thats a lot of booze over a short space of time! Have you considered it might be mild withdrawals? Depending on when you started drinking after the night before, the alcohol probably was still in your system so you were just topping it up. 3 nights of that and then stopping could possibly cause withdrawals.

Probably just a hangover though, lesson learned. b vitamins and rehydration sachets are your friend in this situation.

I used to drink regularly in my twenties. The last time I had two bottles of wine and then some I was on deaths door the next day. If I had been drinking the previous two days as well I wouldnt have bounced back in 24 hour either. I think you need some time to detox and recover. Not sure how long my longest hangover was, but I know for sure that I never drank that much ever again 🥴

It's the Sunday "night" in bed by 5am (5am!) thing. I can drink in the same league as Oliver Reed & Amy Winhouse (both dead) but I wouldn't be right until a Tuesday if I had a 4am Saturday and 5am Sunday bedtime in a row. I have a decade on you - it's bedtime for me at 10pm on a Sunday for a bit of Howard Hughes/The Unexplained radio but Friday and Saturday are fair game.

Have a few weeks off if it's making you feel ill . . . . you've clearly put a bit away.

Starting to feel human again today...only just 😅

I think you may have just learnt your lesson the hard way! 😏
Be a bit kinder to yourself OP, that's a lot of damage to do and a bit of a waste of your annual leave too. Hope you feel fully back to your normal self really soon.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 30/09/2021 10:21

I couldn't drink that much in one night let alone 3, no judgement, so long as you had a good time but I think that would give me a week long hangover haha.

I'm glad you're starting to feel a bit better though.

REP22 · 30/09/2021 10:21

Could be dehydration, due to the alcohol. I used to suffer with that when I was drinking a bit too much more than was clever. Also, as others have said, it sounds like mild withdrawal symptoms.

Plenty of water, plus some Dioralyte (blackcurrant flavour was the most palatable, I found) or chemists' own-brand of similar was helpful.

Hope you're feeling better soon. x

Glad to hear you’re feeling better OP. A small glass of port at Christmas from now on.Smile.

JudgeRindersMinder · 01/10/2021 09:32

@ketoandhashbrowns ready to do it all again this weekend?🤣

ketoandhashbrowns · 01/10/2021 21:29

@JudgeRindersMinder I think I'd literally die 🤣 quiet weekend is my plans!

Could easily be a hangover. 3 nights x 2-3 days (welcome to your 30s). Take your temp but you will likely start to feel better early next week x

NervyMcNerve · 01/10/2021 21:42

I'd be absolutely rough as toast from just one of those nights, never mind 3 of them🤣

I'm early forties now so would be hungover for about a week. I've had a few drinks tonight and I know I'll be feeling it tomorrow!

《 Laughs in 50 years old 》my sympathies OP. This is your life now. 💀
Tinpotspectator · 02/10/2021 06:27

That could well be alcohol poisoning. That level of binge drinking puts people in hospital.

Oblomov21 · 02/10/2021 07:40

I think it's not surprising. I can drink like a fish, but by god that's a humongous amount. Plus 3 days running, with very little sleep. It is totally normal for it to take 4 days or so to get over it.

sabs22 · 02/10/2021 11:17

This is how my friend found out she was pregnant lol, turns out it wasn’t a 3 day hangover, the babies just didn’t like cocktails!

scarpa · 02/10/2021 19:24

I'm 32 and that would absolutely kill me off, and I used to go to work off 2 hours' sleep twice a week in my early twenties. It's just getting older, did you have the pure hangxiety as well? Grin That's the main reason I rarely do massive nights out any more, can't bear the paranoia afterwards haha,
