To think this is more than a hangover?

I had a very heavy weekend which isn't usual for me. I was visiting my friend in Manchester, Friday night I had a bottle of wine - bed by 1 am. Saturday night I had a lot more, not sure exactly how much but consisted of over a bottle of wine and numerous vodkas - bed by 4 am. Sunday night I had 2 and a half bottles of wine - bed by 5 am. I haven't been right since. Even today I've woken up from a dead sleep, sweating and so so tired. I am 29 and have had a two day hangover before but never this bad, I have no motivation to do anything. I feel like my mental as well as physical health has really taken a hit.

AIBU to think this isn't normal to still be feeling the effects 3 days later?

I can do 2 easy. And I am not even awake until 4am! That very spread out drinking

Eve81 · 29/09/2021 14:57

I am 31 and can honestly say, 4 day hangovers are the norm for me. It is so bad I probably only drink once every couple of years.

You have my sympathy.

ketoandhashbrowns · 29/09/2021 15:11

Yeah I spread that out throughout the early afternoon to when I went to bed. I know it's still an alarming amount but it honestly doesn't happen that often and I had dinner etc with some wine and was drinking water also. I did feel drunk but remember everything and wasn't out of control. I'm also heavier so I think that makes a difference. When I was slimmer I would be hammered in less than one bottle.

Glad to hear it's more than likely still a hangover

I did this once as a student - it was day three before I felt normal again! In hindsight I probably agave myself mild alcohol poisoning but I hadn't had anywhere near as much alcohol as you've had - in the nicest way, what on earth were you thinking?!

By drinking the next day, all you've done is delay the inevitable so you've got three days worth of awful hangover to deal with, lol. Lots of water, paracetamol and sleep.

Balonzette · 29/09/2021 15:14

Ha ha it's definitely normal after that amount of booze Grin

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 29/09/2021 15:16

I remember going on a 4 day bender in Surfers Paradise in my 20s, I got alcohol poisoning and I felt horrendous for days afterwards. I hope you are starting to feel better OP.

lovemelongtime · 29/09/2021 15:29

There's also a lot of viruses knocking around so you might have picked up a bug. You would think all of mumsnetters were saints the way they are going on. Dose up and back to bed - you will prob feel better tomorrow and probably a good idea to do a lateral flow test while you are at it - if you went our for the weekend you don't know.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 29/09/2021 16:07

You had AT LEAST 4.5 bottles of wine, and a large number of vodkas over 3 nights? No wonder you feel shit!

I had a 2-day hangover a few weeks ago from one night of drinking wine and prosecco, but I am older than you. First 48-hour hangover I've ever had!

VanGoSunflowers · 29/09/2021 16:13

That is a LOT of alcohol OP. No judgement but if you’re not used to it then no wonder you feel ill. Do you usually mix drinks? I don’t usually myself and I did the other week - didn’t actually drink that much but they were all different drinks and it didn’t feel like a normal hangover.

I would get some rehydrate sachets and drink lots of water and get some rest while you detox!

IrishMel · 29/09/2021 16:46

This is a a lot if not used to it. But I would also check to see if you are gluten intolerant. I don't drink now except for weddings etc but used to suffer terrible even if only had a few drinks on a night out. Would be shaking feel in bits. Turns out it was the gluten. Next time you have a drink try a cider or gin or check online what does not contain gluten. The difference when had cider as not sick or shaky or in bits the next day.But after a heavy weekend it takes it out of you. Rest up and eat healthy and hope you feel better soon

The last time I had a hangover that I thought had to be more than a hangover because I still felt rough days later, it turned out I was right and I was pregnant. So... could be that?

Aquamarine1029 · 29/09/2021 16:58

You drank a stupid amount of alcohol. It's no wonder you feel so shit.

thisgardenlife · 29/09/2021 17:02

Alcohol poisoning. Not fun and sadly what killed my brother.

Gingernaut · 29/09/2021 17:02

Four and a half bottles of wine and 'numerous vodkas' in the space of three days.

That's 45 units of alcohol plus 1 unit for every 25ml shot of vodka.

You're looking at alcohol poisoning.

Do you normally go this nuts when you drink?

GrandTheftWalrus · 29/09/2021 17:04

The results of my last hangovers that bad are currently 4 and 4 months 😳

AttaGirrrrl · 29/09/2021 17:08

It’s most likely ‘just’ a hangover. Do you have LFTs at home though? Presumably you’ve been socialising this weekend - and exhaustion is definitely one of the symptoms.

I agree that you should test for covid, it definitely is a possibility given your shenanigans. Hopefully, you've learned a lesson and won't drink like a fucking maniac again.

Awww!Smile. Congratulations!
1FootInTheRave · 29/09/2021 17:54

Sounds like a well deserved hangover! Grin

Mine would last until about Thursday evening after a weekend like that!

immersivereader · 29/09/2021 18:16

That's an awful lot

Wazzzzzzzup · 29/09/2021 18:40

Fiy, 2x dissolvable vit c and then peoper chocken soup work absolute magic. Chug as much water as you can during the morning.
Tada! Like a new person

Eilatan2018 · 29/09/2021 18:52

Wow that is excessive. No wonder you feel rough.. I’d be dead!!

GrandTheftWalrus · 29/09/2021 21:46

@sugaris was 5 weeks and then 6 weeks when I found out with both of them. Wondered why my hangover wasn't going away at all. Now lingering for the next 18 years! Should've been 14 years but our wee surprise arrived in May lol

AramintaLee · 29/09/2021 21:50

I would say it's a hard lesson in not drinking to that excess again. It doesn't do your body any favours and your body is letting you know it.

Squashpocket · 29/09/2021 22:35

I remember my last proper hangover. Also aged 29. I never drank that much again. Welcome to your 30s 👍
