To think this is more than a hangover?

I had a very heavy weekend which isn't usual for me. I was visiting my friend in Manchester, Friday night I had a bottle of wine - bed by 1 am. Saturday night I had a lot more, not sure exactly how much but consisted of over a bottle of wine and numerous vodkas - bed by 4 am. Sunday night I had 2 and a half bottles of wine - bed by 5 am. I haven't been right since. Even today I've woken up from a dead sleep, sweating and so so tired. I am 29 and have had a two day hangover before but never this bad, I have no motivation to do anything. I feel like my mental as well as physical health has really taken a hit.

AIBU to think this isn't normal to still be feeling the effects 3 days later?

Oh my "it's an age thing" really made me feel decrepit I've a child the ops age Shock

Sunshineandflipflops · 29/09/2021 11:24

There's no way I could drink that much over 3 days and function.

I like a drink but 2/3 in one go is about my limit these days. I'm in my early 40's though.

Alcohol is a real depressant and the effects can stay in your system for a while.

Sunshineandflipflops · 29/09/2021 11:24

When I say 2/3 I mean glasses of wine, not bottles!

Hoppinggreen · 29/09/2021 11:27

Hangover
Your body is telling you you aren’t 18 anymore
Wait until you are in your 40s, one bottle of wine and you are dying for days

Mrsjayy · 29/09/2021 11:28

Yeah I can just about manage a bottle of wine over the weekend these days.

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/09/2021 11:33

This is why I don’t really drink these days, and have been like this since my mid 40s! I just can’t take it now, have a google about some liver friendly food and drinks and stock up!
Hope you had a good time at the weekend though-nothing worse than the hangover from hell when it’s not been worth it!

QueenofLouisiana · 29/09/2021 11:33

Just to make sure, have you done a covid test? I was was sweating and utterly exhausted at the start (double vaxxed). The symptoms that are widely publicised are no longer the ones to look out for.

Just a thought.

If negative, welcome to your 30s! I drink waaaay less than I did 17 years ago (aged 28) because I just can't cope with the following two days.

Kindleswitchface · 29/09/2021 11:36

@AwkwardPaws27

Is there any chance you could be pregnant? I thought I had a rough hangover after my 30th birthday; almost throwing up as I walked in the doors of a macdonalds (hoping to get a hangover cure!) on day 3 was what made me test Blush
I was going to ask the same.

Last time I had a three day hangover, it was actually morning sickness.

AFuturisticalSound · 29/09/2021 11:39

I am older than you and an absolute lightweight when it comes to alcohol but I wouldn't expect a hangover to last more than one day.

I'd keep an open mind about other possible explanations

Cas112 · 29/09/2021 11:39

Its probably just aging, hangovers really do get worse the older you get. An alcohol is a depressant so with the amount you drank the feeling down will be due to that and lack of sleep.

MadeOfStarStuff · 29/09/2021 11:47

Hangover and lack of sleep

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 29/09/2021 11:50

Most certainly a hangover. I can't drink anymore purely because of the hangovers.
They put me out of action for 2-3 days, on a LOT less than what you drank too.

That's a crazy amount of alcohol. How did you stomach 2.5 bottles of red wine on the Sunday? Did you not feel sick? Have the shakes?

Make sure you drink plenty of water, get some healthy, nutritious food in you, plenty of sleep (only a night though, daytime will make you feel worse - sleep pattern will be fucked for the night...), a warm shower.. anything for comfort and lay of the booze for a good while!

Sewaccidentprone · 29/09/2021 11:56

You could also be really dehydrated and low blood sugar Try dioralyte and some whole meal toast or banana. Mint tea would be good too.

Strawbsaturno · 29/09/2021 12:00

2 1/2 bottles of wine in 1 night is an absolute shit load though!
To me, Covid felt like waking up everyday with a terrible hangover, dizzy, headache, pain everywhere.

Lifelines11 · 29/09/2021 12:01

Welcome to getting older and decreased alcohol tolerance!

FaceForRadio1973 · 29/09/2021 12:04

Just wait until you're over 40, and you will know all about hangovers!

Joking aside, if you don't normally drink that much, a two day hangover is not to be unexpected.... I'm not one for hair of the dog, but I can recommend a big fat bastard fried breakfast. (You'll have to trust me on that one)..

CatTerrier · 29/09/2021 12:16

I'd be dead if I drank that. And I'm a fairly seasoned drinker.

Sugaris · 29/09/2021 12:20

Probably is just the hangover. You have my sympathy. This started happening to me at 40. At first I thought I was developing leukaemia or something. It’s got to the point where I’ve reluctantly given up drinking altogether - its not just the three day tiredness, it’s the comedown with suicidal urges that really scare me.

It’s such a shame, that warm tipsy feeling is just the best!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/09/2021 12:38

Yes I think it’s just a really bad hangover! That’s an awful lot of drink. Not judging as you say it’s unusual for you, but that’s even more reason why it would affect you I guess.

MitheringMytryl · 29/09/2021 12:43

Could be a hangover, could be the start of a virus.

I remember once thinking I was on a horrible come down but it turned out I had bacterial tonsillitis and ended up in bed for 2 weeks.

DrManhattan · 29/09/2021 12:47

Sounds like you have just massively poisoned yourself wirh alcohol. Your poor liver

SisterBeaverhausen · 29/09/2021 12:49

Blend cucumber, apple juice, mango puree, elderflower and crushed ice together. It'll help a hangover.

Take paracetamol and drink a load of water (if you can't stomach plain water which I can't when hungover try fizzy/soda water)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/09/2021 12:50

Wow, that's quite a massive amount of alcohol. I'm quite shocked. No wonder you feel bloody awful. I would certainly not be doing that again to myself. Dangerous.

ducktape · 29/09/2021 13:48

I can't cope with hangovers in my 40s anymore, they do seem to last for days! However in current circumstances if I felt like you say you do, I'd be considering a covid test just to double check.

Planesmistakenforstars · 29/09/2021 14:55

I cannot get over that you had 2 and a half bottles of wine in one night. I am prone to the odd binge drinking session, but I would genuinely be in the afterlife now if I'd done that. On top of all the other alcohol and the lack of sleep then yes, it really sincerely is still a hangover. You are going to hate your thirtees.
