To Ask What You Do in the evenings?

Shamelessly posting for traffic.

Help me find something to do in the evening to get me out of the house regularly 2/3 times a week.

I WFH and want to get out more in the evenings. I'd like a regular commitment to encourage me to get out. I don't live in the kind of area you want to go walking in alone at night. Friends aren't always available to commit to something weekly. I have been going to the gym but I'm bored to tears TBH and don't always want to exercise. I have lots of hobbies that involve sitting down in my house (reading etc). But I get cabin fever after a fortnight. Lots of local clubs are virtual ATM.

I'm going to the local retail park in desperation tonight. Inspire me with your ideas.

Have young DC but go to French class once a week at a local college and have a monthly book club too. More than enough for me at the moment. If I could get out more I'd go to the cinema alone!

I go to spin classes.

EmmaStone · 28/09/2021 21:18

Anyone else seem to spend most of the evening catching up on texts and WhatsApps?!? Admittedly, there's a lot going on at work at the moment, and also a good friend having a tough time, but the last 2 weeks seems to be text conversations with everyone involved, talking, talking, talking.

Once a week I do a yoga class (in studio if I can, otherwise via Zoom), and then the rest of the week just seems to be ad hoc 'stuff' - committee meetings for volunteering, school meetings, book club, taxiing kids. I LOVE evenings just flopping in front of trash telly and uninterrupted iPad time 😂.

Absolutely second or third scouts or guides. Quite a lot of fun and lovely to see them mature as they move through the groups.

LocutusOfBorg · 28/09/2021 21:25

Make dinner, today round, get kids to bed, pjs, tv, bed!

LocutusOfBorg · 28/09/2021 21:25

If I had time for such things, I'd like to
Play on a pottery wheel Do a pottery class
Learn to ride a horse
Take the dog to agility (sadly DDog wouldn't cope anyway)

Dixiechickonhols · 28/09/2021 21:27

I go tap dancing and volunteer at a local girl guides.

MrsDThomas · 28/09/2021 22:09

Run, walk, watch tv, weights,

carolinesbaby · 28/09/2021 22:14

Monday to Friday, it's Mum's Taxi to Beavers, horse riding, Guides, swimming, archery. I run the Guides myself which takes a lot of me free time. I ride myself as often as I can afford (maybe 2-3 lessons a month), run occasionally, and I crochet and knit.

Neonplant · 28/09/2021 22:17

We have cinema passes. We go weekly or sometimes more.

FangsForTheMemory · 28/09/2021 22:37

@lilymossflower I can tell you that classes like that are not easy to find unless you live in a big city. I've found one painting group that isn't massively oversubscribed, and it's during the day.

HintofVintagePink · 28/09/2021 22:39

Barre class once a week and a catch up/support chat every other Thursday night with 2 friends. It’s just coffee at one of their houses and only an hour or so, but we use the time constructively to lend an ear or offer practical help to each other. It’s informal, but a fixture in the diary and I find it invaluable time.

Mamaknight2 · 28/09/2021 22:45

Hi, try a martial arts class as it’s a great way to meet new people while exercising and learning amazing moves that’ll keep you protected in self defence. Plus it’s the best stress reliever I’ve encountered. One I’ll recommend is Fighting Fit which is based in London and Surrey.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/09/2021 23:11

Mum taxi for the kids, but that includes helping out with the DCs' scouting and I already was a Guider pre-DCs. The DCs' units seem to have a leader crisis at about the point that mine move up and it means J can join the cool stuff too.

Pre-DCs I did fitness classes and adult ballet and tap dancing. I'd happily do those again in the future.

I find this too. I see the odd thing advertised that looks good but they're always daytime. We live rurally a couple of hours from a big city.
