To Ask What You Do in the evenings?

Shamelessly posting for traffic.

Help me find something to do in the evening to get me out of the house regularly 2/3 times a week.

I WFH and want to get out more in the evenings. I'd like a regular commitment to encourage me to get out. I don't live in the kind of area you want to go walking in alone at night. Friends aren't always available to commit to something weekly. I have been going to the gym but I'm bored to tears TBH and don't always want to exercise. I have lots of hobbies that involve sitting down in my house (reading etc). But I get cabin fever after a fortnight. Lots of local clubs are virtual ATM.

I'm going to the local retail park in desperation tonight. Inspire me with your ideas.

I help out with brownies one evening a week and choir practice on another day. Rest of week I’m happy chilling at home though sometimes if the weather is nice I will go on a walk

NautaOcts · 28/09/2021 18:28

Choir
Zumba
Meetings for a charity I’m a trustee for

NautaOcts · 28/09/2021 18:29

Church small group (bible study type thing)

NautaOcts · 28/09/2021 18:29

If I had more time I’d look at another dance or exercise class or another gospel/rock/barbershop choir, or volunteering thing like guides, or sewing course/group, or historical society.

NautaOcts · 28/09/2021 18:30

WI

StoneofDestiny · 28/09/2021 18:31

I do Book Club, Meals out with friends, Amateur Dramatics, Card Games Group and Gardening Club. (These are all evening activities).

AMBOG · 28/09/2021 18:34

Tap classes. Started when I was about 55, never done it before. Love it now and I am quite a nifty tapper at 63.

Kerzehmet · 28/09/2021 18:38

Netball!! Joined a local back to netball league, pay per match. I absolutely love it, I'd play every day if I could. They create teams as people join up, it's all very relaxed and friendly. I now play for 2 teams and sub for others as and when I can. I hate the gym and I hate running but it's a great way to maintain fitness. Not sure where you are but might be something like that local if you fancy?

Flowerpower23 · 28/09/2021 18:48

How is that going (the piano)? I’m looking at picking it back up again but worried I can’t learn a new skill now I’m older! I’m 30 :)

Well until last week my evening activity was taking ds2 to his many sports clubs.

So now I too am at a bit of a loose end (he has gone to uni).

Book club (it's gone moribund with covid but may restart soon)
Athletics officiating (summer not winter tho) and athletic club meetings but those are staying online
Swimming but my pool has switched to mostly morning.
Tutoring twice a week evenings ATM
Meet up with friends - more often for coffee or lunch tho
Theatre with different friends - about once or twice a year only

I think I (we) have got out of the habit and need to get back into it. I might try to plan one evening out each week, starting next week. Maybe a gym class would be good, or a drink with a friend. Running club is a good shout too. I run every day but a club might be good. And I can now that I dint have to take Ds to footy or athletics.

ScumbagDave · 28/09/2021 18:51

Yoga classes are my main hobby ATM, as we are lucky to have a great studio nearby.

There are other things near me. Not really evening classes (which I'd probably love)! I've seen things like adults only evenings at a paint your own pottery place. I'd go except that I want to do yoga!

RosiePosieDozy · 28/09/2021 18:52

Some ideas:
Dancing classes. Salsa?
Art/photography clubs - not sure whether they're still virtual?
Cinema
Theatre - local amateur and the bigger theatres

ScumbagDave · 28/09/2021 18:52

Oh yes, I love going to the cinema on my own! Nobody pinches my snacks that way Grin

2021namechanger · 28/09/2021 18:54

Not sure what location you’re in but it can be worth checking out whether there are any meet-up groups or Facebook specific groups near you.

For example near me I know there are things like board game nights, quiz night meet ups etc. There’s also a great group on FB that’s just women who will often get together to do cookery classes or a book club or walk together etc.

Vickim03 · 28/09/2021 18:54

Look up groups like tangent or WI, ladies circle. They meet once or twice a month and organise things to do as a group.

speakout · 28/09/2021 18:55

I do as little as possible in the evenings.
I am a lark, by 7pm I am usually found snuggled up with a cat, watching Netflix and drinking peppermint tea. If I am feeling energetic I may go for a soak in the bath.

AhNowTed · 28/09/2021 18:59

Fuck all.

traumatisednoodle · 28/09/2021 19:06

So when the DCs leave and I am no longer taxi service my plans are:
Train for a marathon
Join a book club
A walking group
Pool to pier
Learn Italian

speakout · 28/09/2021 19:10

My kids are grown, I am no longer a taxi service and I am loving doing nothing in the evenings and having an early night.

covilha · 28/09/2021 19:17

Bell ringing!!!
Great company
Great sound
(Lots of beer!)

MardyBoudoir · 28/09/2021 19:17

Not much. Pre-pandemic I had a language evening class. I like to walk in the evenings so I’d like to find a group to do that with.

covilha · 28/09/2021 19:18

I also second learning Italian - try the language cafes in your local area

clary · 28/09/2021 19:19

@covilha

Ooooh. I was a bellringer, thanks to my dad. Not pulled a rope in 40 years tho. Wonder if it's like riding a bike?
covilha · 28/09/2021 19:22

@clay - definitely. Just get back in there and it will feel as though you have never been away
And if you want to try and do something different while holidaying in England there are towers all over the country that will welcome you with open arms Smile

80sMum · 28/09/2021 19:27

I belong to a choir and a drama group. Gets me out of the house in the evenings at least twice a week. There's also a weekly quiz night at the local pub, which is fun if we can get a team together.
