To Ask What You Do in the evenings?

Kindleswitchface · 28/09/2021 17:00

Shamelessly posting for traffic.

Help me find something to do in the evening to get me out of the house regularly 2/3 times a week.

I WFH and want to get out more in the evenings. I'd like a regular commitment to encourage me to get out. I don't live in the kind of area you want to go walking in alone at night. Friends aren't always available to commit to something weekly. I have been going to the gym but I'm bored to tears TBH and don't always want to exercise. I have lots of hobbies that involve sitting down in my house (reading etc). But I get cabin fever after a fortnight. Lots of local clubs are virtual ATM.

I'm going to the local retail park in desperation tonight. Inspire me with your ideas.

Whereabouts are you? Do you have a local theatre?

GTAlogic · 28/09/2021 19:31

I do photography as a hobby and occasionally go out with a friend to different places with the intention of taking photos.

I go to a camera club once a week too usually and we occasionally go out as a group to different photography locations.

Whammyyammy · 28/09/2021 19:33

Ride my horse, go out on back of my husbands motorbike, go to the pub, go out for meals, picnic to watch the sunset, walk along the river.... get trickier in winter, but tend to go cinema, theatre, pub etc then

EggsellentSmithers · 28/09/2021 19:34

We are still doing family quiz most weeks on a Friday (we are fairly spread out location wise across the Uk). About to swap to monthly though as it’s a bit much now more is opening up.

I have a book club that I go to every 4/5 weeks, at a friends house and it’s lovely.

Started burlesque classes recently too with a couple of friends from book club. It’s really good fun!!

I agree that gym classes are more sociable than just going to do a workout!

MiddlesexGirl · 28/09/2021 19:38

Local adult education classes (take your pick of subjects) or university course if you want something more intense; bridge or chess club or similar; volunteering for eg.Samaritans; pool or darts at the local pub.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/09/2021 19:41

Well I would suggest you get one of those 1, 000 piece, 'impossible' jigsaws and immediately throw away the lid with the picture on, then spread it out on the floor and make a start (corners and edges first!)...

... AND get a cat.

Busybee5000 · 28/09/2021 19:46

Online yoga
Outdoor Zumba (moving inside soon)
Am completing an online TEFL course
Evening out with friends/DH etc
Watch a box set with the children - not every night but when we run out of things to do, this is useful and gives us something to look forward to.
Volunteer at a local theatre etc?

Smashingspinster · 28/09/2021 19:52

WI - bear with me - I know they seem to be a lot of older women, but in reality a lot of them have a younger membership and they often have sub groups too. It is worth seeing if there are any local ones you can go along to as a guest to see if it seems like a group you would like.

Pottedpalm · 28/09/2021 19:53

Art class
Adult ballet ( beginners) class
Pub quiz night
Friends do language classes, swimming, choirs, orchestras, zumba, yoga..

Jumpingintosummer · 28/09/2021 19:56

I have roughly the same routine most weeks:
Monday 5.30 - 6.30 gym
Tuesday 5.30 - 7.30 gym then collect DD from tutor.
Wednesday usually home at night.
Thursday 5.30-6.30 gym.
Friday out with friends/family/DH - dinner/drinks/cinema/concert/bowling/someone’s house or hosting etc.

notanothertakeaway · 28/09/2021 19:59

Check out Go Mammoth for sport events

And I think "meet up" for other activities

Lilymossflower · 28/09/2021 20:00

If I could get out in the evenings, I would do dance/salsa classes, art groups/classes, book group, pottery class, poetry class, open mic, life drawing, a red tent, gymnastics or martial arts class...

Stovetopespresso · 28/09/2021 20:02

oh god I do literally nothing! his thread is great, I'm going to look in to some classes.
I have people round to dink wine or meet up with friends sometimes to drink beer

Stovetopespresso · 28/09/2021 20:09

ooh just googled red tent! looks interesting

Hessneakingoutagain · 28/09/2021 20:12

God, this makes me feel so boring 🙈I put Dd, 3, to bed, then flop on the sofa and either watch tv or i’m on my phone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Droite · 28/09/2021 20:20

Try something totally new like learning to ring bells (very sociable), or learning a musical instrument with a view to joining a band or orchestra.

PhillMcCann · 28/09/2021 20:23

Fitness class or gym
Swimming
Book club
Cinema
Bingo
Choir

I do barely any of these things but these are what I'd do more of if I wasn't chained to this bloody house nearly all the time!

Antinerak · 28/09/2021 20:28

After dinner, I clean the kitchen and do some yoga or sit on my phone for a bit while DH works out for an hour or so. When he's done we stick a film or tv on, talk through most of it and then go up for bath and bed.

At most I'll do some tidying or organising, occasionally I have some crafting to do or a DIY project to finish. DH and I do puzzles, card games and like to read to each other too. I sometimes have my neighbour over for tea and a chat in the garden.

I can't go to the cinema or join clubs or anything due to covid so it's nice to have things to do at home

Fizzbangwallop · 28/09/2021 20:28

Learn a language with a view to planning a trip to speak it. I did this a few years before lockdown and, although I wasn’t very good, my efforts to try to speak the language were definitely appreciated Smile

Summerfun54321 · 28/09/2021 20:28

Choir, art classes, hockey.

Gherkingreen · 28/09/2021 20:36

Between us we walk the dog, cook dinner, taxi for teens, clean up a bit, YouTube workout at home, shower, TV, read a bit, sleep.
I'd love to do more/different things but no idea how to fit it all in.

TeamRick · 28/09/2021 20:40

I've been doing Rusty rackets tennis coaching once a week at the local tennis club since exercise outdoors was allowed again!
Absolutely loving it - hadn't played tennis since school, met some really nice people! Love running around outside & I always thought I hated it!

SalsaLove · 28/09/2021 20:43

Cooking dinner, watching a series like the Blacklist, gardening, listening to Classic FM whilst writing emails, discussing the cat.
