Three months of the same car alarm going off

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 20:35

It's been three long months of a shitty neighbour not getting their car alarm fixed but parking it away from their own house and moving into a different spot every few days moving onto a new street.

The owner knows what's happening, he's been left notes, politely asked even at 4am, now we have a newer neighbours who have threatened to punch their lights out if the car is even seen in the street again.

The car is back, and it's already gone off this evening,it's directly outside my house, meaning I can look forward to it going off at least twice more at stupid o'clock in the morning.

Aibu to smear vaseline under the door handles? Or is there a better way???

Call the police every single time insist they done out as you are worried someone is trying to steal it

They may just force the issue

Chloemol · 27/09/2021 20:41

Or if you know who it is go arms knock them up every single time

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 20:46

I've not managed to pin down which neighbour it exactly is! And while its annoying - phoning up the police each time would only waste my time and theirs as its environmental health and car alarms don't count apparently...

So natural retribution seems like the best way.

Personally, after that long I’d smear dog shit all over it but I’m not very nice when I’ve been woken up.

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 20:52

That's what I WANT to do @Flaunch, I lack access to a dog, and human feels like that step too far.

Making an ersatz poo smear from peanut butter and cocoa powder has been considered though!

If its already gone off- perhaps you and a few like minded neighbours can go and have a chat with the owner of the car. Ask if there’s a fault with the alarm, when they are going to fix it and if it should not be parked closer to the owner- so they can deal with it more swiftly when it goes off.

FixTheBone · 27/09/2021 21:07

It would be a shame if the same electrical fault causing the alarm to go off caused a fire that destroyed the car overnight...

MadMadMadamMim · 27/09/2021 21:12

I'd be tempted to write Fix your fucking alarm in acetone across his bonnet.

It will take the paint off...

Paintbrush, nail varnish remover and the rage of a menopausal woman who has been disturbed by the same twat for three months is a powerful combination.

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 21:14

It's an incredibly narrow steep hill, so fire damage sadly not an option (I like my other neighbours!)

An angry mob might work though, the last time people grouped together was when they changed the bin day, so chances of rebellious collective action are pretty slim.

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 21:17

It is a shit car, with peeling paintwork already - its also naice area adjacent so outright vandalism would "lower the tone"

I want it clever, and I want them to really feel the rage, a deep cold months long calculated rage.

Squirt some sort of disgusting gooey substance on their windshield wipers so when they’re turned on it smears all over their screen 🧐

MissCruellaDeVil · 27/09/2021 21:27

Rather than commuting a crime, perhaps leave a note on the car, if they park the car away from the house they may not hear it,

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 21:31

@MissCruellaDeVil he's had three months of notes, that ship has sailed! Threat of violence hasn't done the job either, I think vaseline is the way forward.

Vaseline on the wipers might work well. Do they drive it often OP?
Asdf12345 · 27/09/2021 21:34

Frankly if that many of you are bothered by it locally it will be cheaper to have a whip around to cover getting it fixed than the impact on your own insurance policies of something happening to the car on your street if someone tries to deal with it in a less rational manner.

Years back a neighbour had a cheap motorcycle stolen and the actuary who lived a few doors down put a collection round to replace it rather than have the owner go through insurance having worked out the likely cost per household of a claim would have been >£50 in increased premiums, so most people were very happy to stick £20-50 in the pot.

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 21:38

They do move it every other day ish, and I WANT them to move it, so tyres down, smashed windows, covering it in toilet paper, any semi permanent disabling of vehicle or actual criminal act are out.

A brick through the windscreen wouldn’t be unreasonable in the circumstances. Appreciate this doesn’t address the faulty alarm though.

Akire · 27/09/2021 21:46

How long does a car alarm have to go off before battery goes? I’d be tempted to give it nudge in the day so by the night it’s dead.

Failing that torture you are going need gang of you to stand around the car in night so when they do eventual show up to turn it off you can all make It very clear how you feel about it. Could even film on local Facebook with local “news” who is the owner they don’t live on our street sort of thing. Waiting for the owner to see sense and buy for it to be fixed isn’t going happen if it’s gone on this far

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 21:54

See if they were reasonable and apologetic, parked closer to their house and turned off the alarm rather than leaving run - I'd have more sympathy.

But he's an entitled arsehole with no shame and is having no problem disturbing everyone.

My next note may read, "please leave the keys under the wheel arch if you need rid of this car" and then park it outside any house mumsnet nominates (fuel allowing).

Shaming on Facebook...... that's the nuclear option... might risk getting booted off for it not being about helicopters or lost cats (see naice adjacent) - but a faux concern post complete with picture has potential!

Can you set the alarm off and see who comes out to stop it.

Elieza · 27/09/2021 22:02

I’d not do anything to the car but I’d go to the council noise police and see if they can do anything, or the actual police.

pinkdot · 27/09/2021 22:02

Could you not box the car in? No damage caused to ANY vehicle so the owner has to communicate with someone to free their car and then you can tell him face to face to sort his car out.

ChaoBella · 27/09/2021 22:05

Why are people suggesting vandalism when the solution is clear as day. Find the owner and suggest they do not bother with the alarm and use the key to lock it.

It sounds like an old scrapper so it will be extremely unlikely for anybody to try and pinch it. Most car thefts these days are flash cars taken by keyless technology.

If anybody did manage to steal the thing then they are probably doing the owner a favour.

MenaiMna · 27/09/2021 22:11

I know you say you've tried notes but have you tried a note laser printed on an A4 sticky label. Placed in the direct view of driver on windscreen whenever he does not answer the call. I've "heard" that they're pretty impossible to get off. Maybe more than one?
"Dear neighbours, this car is owned by an anti-social prick of small intelligence and even smaller penis", "Dear owner, get your alarm fixed or we get it towed", "Dear owner, no body has ever loved you not even your mum", "Dear owner, my army surplus artillery gun is aimed at your car. It has a noise trigger".

They come in packs of 20 so that's your first four sorted.
