Three months of the same car alarm going off

Timeforabiscuit · 27/09/2021 20:35

It's been three long months of a shitty neighbour not getting their car alarm fixed but parking it away from their own house and moving into a different spot every few days moving onto a new street.

The owner knows what's happening, he's been left notes, politely asked even at 4am, now we have a newer neighbours who have threatened to punch their lights out if the car is even seen in the street again.

The car is back, and it's already gone off this evening,it's directly outside my house, meaning I can look forward to it going off at least twice more at stupid o'clock in the morning.

Aibu to smear vaseline under the door handles? Or is there a better way???

@KrisAkabusi

might want to contact local witches for car owner. Once met a white witch who had a spell for everything, they may have one for car owners with faulty alarms.

Just when you think Mumsnet can't get any more bonkers!

Fucking hell 😂
bellabasset · 30/09/2021 10:57

Sorry to hear about your dh, the last thing your nerves need is to be woken up by a wretched car alarm.

Timeforabiscuit · 30/09/2021 11:12

I absolutely love the thought of a white witch! Though I'd far rather a spell for shrinking tumors, communicative teens and a steady pay cheque, but that seems greedy - so if its in anyone's power to stop the car alarm then I'll take it!

So the guy drove off this morning, we'll see what tonight brings.

I know the rational half of mumsnet is saying report to environmental health, but this guy should just fix the alarm - it shouldn't NEED a letter from the council (and I doubt he'd pay any notice anyway).

I'm so sorry about your husband. I had not seen the update when I posted. Just to explain what EH will do, keep a diary of the noise. Back date for as long as is reasonably accurate. They will send a letter to the alleged offender. If the noise continues they will likely send an officer to investigate and serve a noise abatement. The tricky part is getting an officer to witness it but if it's long lasting you are in with a good chance.

Timeforabiscuit · 30/09/2021 13:36

@Northernsoullover there is little to no chance of environmental health witnessing it, and I wouldn't want to waste what little time they have on it - far rather they focused on hoarding, vermin and nasty outbreaks of infectious disease than waste time on this twerp.

I will get it logged though.

Any more news?

Timeforabiscuit · 03/10/2021 08:32

No car alarm!! And I actually had a full night's sleep night rather than being woken by either the car or the 4am fear!

@MenaiMna

I know you say you've tried notes but have you tried a note laser printed on an A4 sticky label. Placed in the direct view of driver on windscreen whenever he does not answer the call. I've "heard" that they're pretty impossible to get off. Maybe more than one? "Dear neighbours, this car is owned by an anti-social prick of small intelligence and even smaller penis", "Dear owner, get your alarm fixed or we get it towed", "Dear owner, no body has ever loved you not even your mum", "Dear owner, my army surplus artillery gun is aimed at your car. It has a noise trigger". They come in packs of 20 so that's your first four sorted.
This is a solid suggestion.

A woman I know whose mother lives near a school kept getting blocked in or out as a few different cars kept parking across her mother's entrance.
When she asked them to move she was told she would have to wait as the children would be out in 10 minutes.

This woman said she was going blow with the annoyance.

So on the recommendation of someone she bought a roll of very sticky tickets and wrote "Don't park here" and slapped them on a few cars that did it.

She only had to do it about 3 times as there was a HUGE fuss, police called by one woman, who was told she shouldn't be blocking their drive, but now the word went round not to do it.

Those stickers are a bitch to get off.
White spirits does the job, but a PITA.

Lysianthus · 03/10/2021 10:01

How blissful is that! So sorry about your DH, OP. May you have many more peaceful undisturbed nights.

Weenurse · 04/10/2021 11:25

Sleep, woo hoo 🎉

Timeforabiscuit · 05/10/2021 19:36

Thanks everyone! Seems to have done the trick, DH has surgery on Friday so fingers crossed it stays quiet while he recovers x

Result!

Hope all goes well for DG’s surgery. At least he will have peace and quiet once home afterwards now the alarm is apparently fixed.

Weenurse · 09/10/2021 23:15

How did the surgery go?

Timeforabiscuit · 10/10/2021 12:50

Thanks @weenurse and @Elieza - unfortunately dh surgery was bumped due to an emergency, so hopefully it will be this Friday now. The waiting is a bit torturous, but far better than alternatives.

It has been blissful silence, and he has been back parking his car - but it's either fixed or the intermittent fault is giving us a bit of a reprieve.

Elieza · 10/10/2021 13:35

Sorry to hear that. There’s a lot of it just now as staff get moved around etc. Hopefully all will go well this Friday.

Confiscatedpopit · 10/10/2021 13:50

Bless you OP. Thinking of you.
I had this on a shit car I couldn’t afford to fix years ago alongside hazards going whenever it saw fit. Turned out it had just collected water under to bonnet and it needed all drying out. That’s after Renault had quoted me 1k to ‘fix’ it…
He should have learnt how to disconnect the battery by now- it sorts the problem overnight at least.

Best of luck to your husband x

shrugshrug · 12/10/2021 12:22

Thinking of you @Timeforabiscuit.
I hope your dh gets his surgery asap.
I'm so glad you are getting a reprieve from the car alarm. How come the other neighbours aren't up in arms about it too ?
I hate thoughtless, selfish feckers.
Last week someone parked so close to me in an outdoor shopping centre car park that I was unable to open the door to get in.
The car park attendant was lovely but nothing he could do despite being able to see the culprit parking his white van on CCTV.
Luckily not being elderly and/or disabled ( I was able to shuffle over from the passenger side to get to the driver's seat.

Timeforabiscuit · 18/10/2021 09:38

Dh had his surgery on Friday, it went well by all accounts and is discharged and home - just need to await the biopsy results and a plan for the chemotherapy/radiotherapy. I can't quite believe he is as well as he is considering he's had brain surgery, he can't plan or do maths and thinks he's 9ft 10 and 510kg but he's doing ok Smile

He's so sleepy I don't think a marching band would stop him having a snooze let alone a car alarm!

OP posts:
Elieza · 18/10/2021 10:51

Glad the biopsy is done and keeping fingers crossed for everything going well and him being well and back to normal health in due course.

I’m hoping that the car alarm is permanently fixed as it would seem it’s not gone off for ages!? Even if it doesn’t wake sleepyhead!

Weenurse · 19/10/2021 08:50

I can’t do maths and I don’t have the excuse of brain surgery 🙄
Wishing you both some positive news from the biopsy results

shrugshrug · 19/10/2021 17:18

Hope all went well re the biopsy @Timeforabiscuit
