The email was sent to headteachers, from an email address which ended @nhs-vaccines.uk. I've copied and pasted it below, having changed the name. The headteacher where I work forwarded it to me because my role includes planning and facilitating school vaccinations.
Things that made me suspicious:
- It's not called the Child Vaccines Team.
- The domain name of the email address did not match that of the emails we have received from NHS teams.
- The attachment did not seem genuine.
I shared my concerns with the head, who did not forward it to parents.
"Dear Mr Smith
As you are aware, on the advice of our Chief Medical Officers, the COVID-19 vaccination programme has now been extended to 12 to 15 year-olds.
In order to address parental concerns and expedite vaccination appointments, we are distributing consent checklist documents via schools to all students aged 12 to 15.
The checklist complements the COVID-19 Vaccination Consent Forms that families should have already received. As an important part of the consent process, the document provides comprehensive risk-benefit information, assisting parents and children in making an informed decision on whether they feel a COVID-19 vaccination would be in their best interest.
Please find the checklist document, attached, for you to distribute to each of your students. We kindly request this is done at your earliest convenience - and regardless of whether students may receive their vaccination on your school premises or elsewhere.
For further information on the COVID-19 vaccination programme, please visit the NHS Coronavirus Vaccination page at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination.
Thank you in advance for your valued assistance in furthering the safe and effective roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
Yours faithfully,
Childhood Vaccines Team"
