To get an expensive coffee machine?

Imcatmum · 26/09/2021 20:27

I'm looking at the Sage barrista express. Anyone have experience of the sage machines? They are soooo expensive I don't want to buy a big white elephant. Those of you who love your coffee A LOT and have splashed out on a serious piece of kit, please guide me.

And I know IABU to buy such an expensive item when my little old (completely used to death/broken) Nespresso machine gave me a good cup of coffee to now.

I've had many machines and. I'm back to a bog standard cafetière. Pods / plastic / pain in the arse to clean / too big / too noisy all put me off.

Cafetière with decent coffee is the way forward.

We have a Sage - don't know which one but it has a colour screen on it - entirely down to my husband as I used never drink coffee. It is amazing. I've been totally converted to drinking coffee since we got it.

Alfxn · 26/09/2021 20:32

(My husband is seriously into his coffee and loves it)

throwaway5001 · 26/09/2021 20:35

What is it you are looking for in a coffee machine?
For a similar price you could have a delongi automatic bean to cup with a milk frothing dispenser that you keep in the fridge to make Lattes etc

INeed2P · 26/09/2021 20:37

I had a sage bean to cup machine! It was amazing when it worked - but sometimes it was temperamental with the beans / water pressure and gave terrible coffee. It became too much of an effort when we had guests, frothing the milk / grinding the beans and so forth. I would definitely get another one in the future, but also have a Nespresso for backup when you can't be bothered with faff!

Imcatmum · 26/09/2021 20:41

I drink 2-4 cups a day. I really do love good coffee. I tend not to make many lattes at home but do always buy a latte when out. I'm fine with it taking a little time to make the coffee, might even enjoy the process. But I'm not happy with the pods I've been putting in landfill and to be honest, I hate not being able to buy and try beans from interesting places and suppliers. It's going to be my 40th birthday gift from DH.

We have a Sage, I love it. Rarely buy coffee out anymore as it's just not as good as I have at home.
Find a good bean supplier and go for it.

Morechocmorechoc · 26/09/2021 20:43

Another delonghi vote. Makes great latte at home so no need to buy out! Aiming for 10000 coffees from it, not far to go!

Iwishiwereamillionaire · 26/09/2021 20:45

I have a sage barista and I love it, got given it earlier this year as a gift and it’s great. I’ve saved a fortune by not getting so many takeouts as hone coffee is just as good. I think it’ll have paid for itself in savings by Xmas!

Juke1 · 26/09/2021 20:45

We have recently upgraded to a Sage Barista Touch. Absolutely love it! The steam wand purges itself when you’re done with it. Makes it so easy to use, I rarely used the wand on our old machine as couldn’t be bothered with the cleaning afterwards.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/09/2021 20:46

I've got the Jura 1 bean to cup (which I think was £600) - best thing ever

Smileforthebirdie · 26/09/2021 20:47

I have a Melitta and it is one of the best things I have bought- love it! So easy to clean as well.

Chocs44 · 26/09/2021 20:51

My daughter has a Sage and she loves it. She used to be a barista and so is a bit of a coffee expert! It makes great coffee.

sleepyhoglet · 26/09/2021 20:53

I have a delonghi magnifica. Makes lovely coffee from bean. Was about £250 6 years ago and works perfectly. It has the frothing tool for doing the milk. I make my own gingerbread lattes and iced in the summer.

olympicsrock · 26/09/2021 20:54

We have a sage barista touch. Absolutely brilliant. My husband says he would save it in a fire over our wedding over anything else.

So incredibly easy and the self cleaning is fab.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2021 20:55

We have a DeLonghi Magnifica bean to cup machine. It gets used daily and is fairly easy to maintain. It was a good investment.

TakeMe2Insanity · 26/09/2021 20:55

We bought a de longhi it’s been amazing. No pods for us.

TooWicked · 26/09/2021 20:57

We have the Sage Oracle Touch, if it broke tomorrow I’d go and buy another one straight away. It’s been worth every penny.

ifellintoarabbithole · 26/09/2021 20:58

A cheaper option to a new machine if you already have a Nespresso machine might be reusable pods? My husband is a convert after I got him some as a gift. You can use your own coffee in them, and no landfill waste. I think the ones he has are called Seal Pods.

Tiddlywinkly · 26/09/2021 21:01

We have this one and use it every day. No problems 2 years in.

Oooh my people! We had the delonghi magnifica for years and it made good coffee. But it didn’t last. We kept having to replace it. We do make w lot fo coffee each day. I was using it for 3-4 a day from the beans and my dh used decaf grounds in the other compartment. Over the course of a day, during lockdown, we ended up making 7-8 a day. It couldn’t keep up.

We replaced it in the end with 2 Melitta machines. One each. One for regular beans and one for decaf. We don’t take milk so got slim line ones that just do bean to cup coffee. No milk frother. They sit side by side on my counter and take up no more space than the larger Delonghi did.

We love them. We have not been disappointed at all. They, like all these machines, need maintaining. Regular filter, descaling and cleaning tablets.

The model we have is Melitta Automatic Espresso Machine, Purista Model, F230-102,

bagginses · 26/09/2021 21:03

We have a delonghi too- love it!

MalteserGeezee · 26/09/2021 21:07

We've got the sage barista pro, churns out at least 6 coffees per day, every day, with total consistency. Get good beans (we buy Monmouth via mail order), unhomogenised whole milk if you like a flat white etc, and invest in a milk thermometer that shows the "foam zone" so that you get the perfect microbubble milk every time. One of our best investments.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 26/09/2021 21:17

Delonghi magnifica bean to cup here too. Had it for 2 years and it churns out at least 4 espressos every day. Very very impressed by the cost to quality ratio.
We don’t use any of the milk frothing functions so no comments on that.

Nsky · 26/09/2021 21:28

Nespresso are good, easy recycling scheme, and buy an aerochino, nothing complex and take good value Aldi alu pods.
Why bother with a more complex machine?
