Neighbours stole my takeaway

NameAlreadyTaken16 · 26/09/2021 11:39

2 days ago ordered from my local takeaway through deliveroo. Phone ping up saying it had been delivered looked out the window to see the driver getting in his car by the time i got outside he had driven away. Called the takeaway who confirmed it must have been delivered but must have went to the wrong house. There's only really 6 houses it could have went to, 4 of which I know would not have accepted. Went outside to put some stuff in the bin and see my neighbours toddler outside in there garden eating from a pizza box where I ordered from. Takeaway arranged for refund back to me. But honestly can't believe the cheek of my neighbours. Sure it was them as get along with everyone else who are pretty decent and we always give and get parcels for each other. The ones I'm sure took my delivery have only been here about 6 months. My husband convinced me not to go there door about it yesterday as it would have kicked off, as there very loud and I had a polite word with them before about there dog constantly barking and got a mouthful of abuse. Has anyone else had this happen ? How would you deal with it ? Just let it go or say something?

Honestly the justifications!
I've seen a toddler being given a baby bottle filled with Coca Cola in public, so I think one eating a slice of pizza in their own house isn't that far fetched!
Also, the same delivery order, exactly the same items, at the same time as the house next door? Hardly.

CF definitely
Put on comments not to deliver to a particular house - might help? Fuming on your behalf OP!

We have had this as well. But it’s the nearby uni student house that stole ours. Takeaway sent a new one out for free but it’s not the point.

Though I did have a bit of revenge though. A few months after it happened the person that stole it started working with me. I had no idea it was them. General chit chat “oh you live near me” etc then it clicked.
“Ah I know where you are, you are the house that stole our takeaway”

She went deathly white and spent the next 15mins stuttering and trying to come up with excuses about what had happened and why they took it. I just stayed silent and left her to dig her hole. Excuses all bollocks of course but very amusing for me. She left shortly after.

DoubleTweenQueen · 26/09/2021 12:59

I would leave it. Accept your refund and just be incredibly careful about deliveries in future, including a note to absolutely not hand over any parcels/deliveries to number such & such in your comments box when ordering online.

You could have some fun with the Amazon deliveries. Buy some books about the evils of alcohol, how to be decent neighbours and good parenting of small children Smile

@MrsLCSofLichfield

I am hoping for your sake that your neighbours are private renting, OP. Flaky types like this are generally gone in 6-12 months.
Yes they are renting the rest of houses are all bought. I dont think the lease will get renewed as I know one of the other neighbours has complained to their landlord several times about the constant shouting and swearing, the dog, rubbish all over garden and street cause of them and the partying. No idea how long the lease is but hopefully doesnt get renewed.

@Macncheeseballs

I'd give them the receipt and ask for the money back, its theft
She’s already got her money back.

We used to get incorrect deliveries attempted all the time in our old house. Just used to ask the name or number on the order the order then point in the right direction. There's no excuse to accept a takeaway delivery for someone else.

starfishmummy · 26/09/2021 13:06

@SoupDragon

Don't Deliveroo deliverers ask for a code to confirm delivery? I've had to give one for a Five Guys order before.
Deliveroo here are still just leaving on the doorstep. They do ring but vanish very quickly and don't wait to see if it's the right place.

I'm the same had what smelled like a curry delivered to my house a few weeks ago at 1am for these neighbours but asked the delivery driver what number it for and pointed him in the right direction. Happens quite alot here as clearly the house are not numbered well enough, not normally a problem as everyone was honest. Ordered a house number plaque now so fingers crossed it shouldn't happen again its just so cheeky

Why didn’t you go knocking on doors?

I would have eaten it as well if no one came knocking

crankysaurus · 26/09/2021 13:23

You could also make a note on your online orders, where they ask about a safe place to leave things, that those neighbours are pizza thieves and not to be trusted.

It would have had the address on the receipt. Both there cars were parked on their drive. So they were both in and would have known it wasn't for them. I'd understand if it was a mistake but its just a piss take

Yeah defo going to update safeplace but on orders whenever I'm ordering anything next. Will start putting fence colour on it as well as ours is a different colour than theirs.

As well as a large and prominent number for your house, a trick I saw in Australia (some homes are set well back fro the road) is to have numbers painted on the curbstone. You could do that for your neighbours (while they are out)

Some drivers also look for numbers on bins, so you can mark them with white gloss paint (preferably non-drip) with a half-inch brush.

If you have a bin thief nearby, do it on back, front, sides, lid, and inside the lid, and on the botton.

Cattitudes · 26/09/2021 13:37

@NameAlreadyTaken16

Just going to have to let it go, away to order a house plaque with the number on it as we just have little numbers on our door and the neighbour doesn't have anything with number on their house. Hopefully should make it easier for delivery drivers.
Let's hope it is delivered to the right house. 🤣🤣

@5329871e

They’re = they are Their = belonging to them There = referring to a place

I’m sorry, I don’t usually do this, but you used it wrong SO MANY times. I thought you should know.

Oh. How clever. I'll get you a gold star or a Well Done Sticker.
NameAlreadyTaken16 · 26/09/2021 13:42

Omg could you imagine lol If I seen them drilling my 12 plaque (my house numer) outside there house it'll be war Grin

I think deliveroo could be the issue, I have to add my house number, the app keeps removing it and the pin is no where near to me. Hth, I blamed neighbors recently but I suspect they deliveroo just fucked off with my food

GoingOutOutNEVER · 26/09/2021 13:46

I live in a block of flats and had Sainsbury’s chop shop buzz my door for entry l, I let them in I heard them open door….they then vanished somewhere between flat entrance and my door on the 6th floor

PigletJohn · 26/09/2021 13:54

down my road we've all been fitting new plaques since takeaway and grocery deliveries burgeoned during lockdown. Inexpensive on fleabay.

Good idea to have the street name as well as the number

I added a solar powered lamp to mine.

Some of them have a clear acrylic window in front, but I think that will get dirty with cobwebs, and will get scratched and dull over time.
