Neighbours stole my takeaway

108 replies

NameAlreadyTaken16 · 26/09/2021 11:39

2 days ago ordered from my local takeaway through deliveroo. Phone ping up saying it had been delivered looked out the window to see the driver getting in his car by the time i got outside he had driven away. Called the takeaway who confirmed it must have been delivered but must have went to the wrong house. There's only really 6 houses it could have went to, 4 of which I know would not have accepted. Went outside to put some stuff in the bin and see my neighbours toddler outside in there garden eating from a pizza box where I ordered from. Takeaway arranged for refund back to me. But honestly can't believe the cheek of my neighbours. Sure it was them as get along with everyone else who are pretty decent and we always give and get parcels for each other. The ones I'm sure took my delivery have only been here about 6 months. My husband convinced me not to go there door about it yesterday as it would have kicked off, as there very loud and I had a polite word with them before about there dog constantly barking and got a mouthful of abuse. Has anyone else had this happen ? How would you deal with it ? Just let it go or say something?

I know it's less convenient, but I'd definitely order cash on delivery from now on

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe

I expect this is a very stupid question but, I need to know...

OP... so a toddler was outside in the garden eating from a pizza box? Does that not seem extremely odd to you? I mean, without getting into why such a young child would be eating outside on their own (choking risk), why would they be eating it out of one of the boxes?

I'm just glad you were there to witness the toddler so that you could have saved them choking. That is one thing that makes my blood run cold. Such a deadly and quick thing.

No its not odd for them for the toddler to be out eating by himself. Its also not odd for him to open the gate and be half way down the road then to hear the mum yelling "get fking back here"

@0palescent

I'd let it go, but next time put a note on the order to say about being extra careful where it's delivered. They'll just deny it, and you've got a refund now, so bringing it up won't make any difference.
I would put a note through the letter boxes of the 6 houses worning them to be aware that a neighbour is dishonestly accepting incorrect deliveries.
NameAlreadyTaken16 · 26/09/2021 12:16

Good advice definitely going to get a sign with the house number on it. Currently just got numbers on the door but there not that big

@lasagnecheese

Next time you have a spare Amazon box put a note in it saying "hands off my stuff you thieving mfrs" and "deliver" it to theirs. See if you get it back or if they open it 😂
This is pure genius Grin

Please do it

tintodeverano2 · 26/09/2021 12:19

No, you need a glitter bomb to be delivered!

@SoupDragon

Don't Deliveroo deliverers ask for a code to confirm delivery? I've had to give one for a Five Guys order before.
Yup. I got that code too. They’ve obviously introduced it to make sure they deliver to the right person.
Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 26/09/2021 12:19

A box filled with sparkly glitter dust and confetti. So when it opens a glitter bomb opens or a drink bomb 👌

Yes, let's all take on the responsibility for useless, dishonest parents! Any injurt would be theier responsibility, no-one else's.
crankysaurus · 26/09/2021 12:21

Make sure you've got a really obvious house number on your house and gate.

JudgeJ... and whoosh!

babywalker2 · 26/09/2021 12:28

@5329871e

They’re = they are Their = belonging to them There = referring to a place

I’m sorry, I don’t usually do this, but you used it wrong SO MANY times. I thought you should know.

Really? Feel better now do you?

Op, this happened to us with the neigbours round the corner. Finally had enough and chatted to the local community police officer who gave then a quick visit. Hasn't happened since.

think it's uber eats that does the code thing.
Normando91 · 26/09/2021 12:35

Christ, these neighbours sound like the ABSOLUTE worst!!
I think PP idea of sending an empty Amazon box with the note is genius!! Or a glitter bomb. Think you can also get confetti bombs that are shaped like dicks… might get the point across more. But make sure it also has glitter. Glitter is such an inconvenience Grin

Cactus1982 · 26/09/2021 12:39

@Balonzette

What should they have done? Knocked on everyone's door asking if it was theirs? My DH often orders us a takeaway as a treat/surprise on his way back from work, which often arrives before he does! I accept takeaways I'm not expecting all the time, for this reason. It could have been an honest mistake. If the child was eating outside, it sounds like it was. I definitely would not accuse someone of stealing and risk a neighbour problem for the sake of some pizzas that were refunded anyway.
Only on mumsnet could someone justify this kind of behind of behaviour with such a story as ridiculous as this 🙄
MrsLCSofLichfield · 26/09/2021 12:41

I am hoping for your sake that your neighbours are private renting, OP. Flaky types like this are generally gone in 6-12 months.

liveforsummer · 26/09/2021 12:42

I think @Balonzette is the neighbour 😆

Fishocado · 26/09/2021 12:46

Maybe they ordered from the same place?

I guess you will never know for sure as you didn't say anything.

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 12:48

Could have been. I didn't order it, i just took delivery.

(It was DS who ordered it and he was upstairs - I didn't steal it from a neighbour 🤣)

@NameAlreadyTaken16

Yeah thr fact I seen them with the pizza box was a jaw dropper, then my husband started with his they might have ordered there own ect. I know it was them tho everyone else on the street is decent. I've had a few amazon/other places parcels go missing since they moved in as well. But never been told where they have been delivered but the penny's dropped now. Just really don't get how someone can steal there neighbours delivery and think its acceptable or a normal thing to do.
Your husband is right, they could have ordered one as well. You should have knocked on the doors that night tbh.

All our Amazon drivers take photos of the door step they leave parcels on, they are financially penalised for lost parcels.

If you have so many things delivered to the wrong address do you maybe need to get a bigger number for your door?

NameAlreadyTaken16 · 26/09/2021 12:53

Just going to have to let it go, away to order a house plaque with the number on it as we just have little numbers on our door and the neighbour doesn't have anything with number on their house. Hopefully should make it easier for delivery drivers.
