So... all things considered... aren't we up sh-t creek?
-gas and electricity prices
-covid (masks? Pfft completed Covid mate (in England))
-council tax hikes
-inflation
-food shortages
-Brexit
-petrol

Sounds like something out of a dystopian nightmare. I'm worried dear reader, and 'keep calm and carry on' doesn't help.

@x2boys

Mumsnet is an echo chamber when it comes to Brexit, Covid,, The Government,etc People need, to look outside their own little bubble and see whats going on, in the rest of the world.
We know what goes on in the rest of the world - the idea is stopping Britain ever getting to the point of third-world countries. Not watching it roll along and think ‘ah well, it’s worse in Afghanistan so I’ll just ignore the downward spiral of the education system, the NHS, the rate of inflation, the stagnation of wages. I’ll worry about it when it gets completely beyond the point of doing anything about it’
wellards · 26/09/2021 09:30

It's absolutely ok to worry about wage stagnation, less disposable income, a worsening health care system, a reduction in services, ever increasing house prices etc. These issues do need to be managed & saying well in X country they can't use the internet is pointless & reductive. Thankfully my parents & inlaws are immigrants who came looking for a better life so my dc have the opportunity to do the same outside of the UK.

wellards · 26/09/2021 09:32

What do you suggest?

Yes how do we fix the NHS & manage the Taliban & stop natural disasters?

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 09:32

@Pumperthepumper
Quite a lot to be honest - take a break from the largely frequenting toxicity of mumsnet opinion and google it.

If you really can’t see there is much one can do rather than bemoan and be indignant then you might as well crack on as you aren’t ready to make a change.

You could start with googling gratitude and be kind activities - or what can I do ? That’s a good one .

Also look up ‘positive news online paper ( and print ) might just help you see there are ways to make a difference and contribute to change. All starts in the old noggin….

And do you not think any of this is worth your time too? Yet here you are, on mumsnet.

Laughing at ‘googling gratitude and kindness activities’ to help the women in Afghanistan though, thanks 😂

This is the best you can offer? 😆 Jfc now who's in a bubble!

wellards · 26/09/2021 09:36

So wage stagnation, higher taxes, NHS waiting times & staff shortages, house prices rises, increased poverty are opinions? I suggest you have a look on google.

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 09:38

@wellards but why is it ok ? What’s worrying going to do but create stress, reduce mental wellness and breed fear ?
Why do that ? What’s the use in worry ? It literally does nothing - if anything you just live through stress twice over .

There is a different way. We have an nhs , thousands of people working hard to contribute to it , thousands of people doing good, new people new ideas , making changes everywhere .

But we need to get behind it all, look for it all not be paralysed by fear.
You live once. Once.Worry is shit.
Possibly mumsnet is not the right place for me.

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 09:40

You want to help women in Afghanistan - you could join an organisation called the circle ( I’m a member ) they are doing lots- and can be found on google.

I must be living somewhere very different from all of you. I am in the south east.

Yesterday I did my normal weekly shop in Tesco, at 11am. It had everything I wanted to buy with the exceptions of own brand bath bubbles and Youngs Breaded cod. I bought a different brand of bubbles and Birds Eye breaded haddock. My town has four supermarkets. All full of people shopping. No-one is going to starve.

I went out at 7am this morning and bought my normal half tank of diesel. No queue. That does not constitute a crisis as far as I can see.

If you want to help the women in Afghanistan, send money:

womenforafghanwomen.networkforgood.com/projects/123748-20-years-of-afghan-women-strong

That’s much more useful than googling kindness platitudes for Instagram then complaining (on mumsnet) that people spend too much time complaining on mumsnet.

wellards · 26/09/2021 09:46

@Topsyturvyloo I'm not campaigning for worrying or fear, I've no interest in queuing for hours to get petrol so haven't & Im not so bothered about not being able to get all my food favourites as I have a lot of choice regardless.
Nonetheless we do need to plan & manage hence why we have this issue of lack of HGV drivers in the first place, putting your head in the sand & gratitude platitudes are not a viable alternative imo.

One of my NHS appointments has moved from next week to 3 months time. Now that is not a problem for me & I have the resources to go private if I should need. However stating that it's not a good thing in general is not about fear.

Being paralysed by fear also leads to inaction so why would I advocate for that.

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 09:49

Ah @Pumperthepumper that’s a great link !! See :)

Wazzzzzzzup · 26/09/2021 09:50

Be kind activities 😂😂😂
You mean "shit up, bitch. Back tou your little corner".

Be kind is bullshit, it's spouted by cunts and it's just to shut women up.

Pumperthepumper · 26/09/2021 09:51

@Topsyturvyloo

Ah *@Pumperthepumper* that’s a great link !! See :)
See what? I already donated, it was my link.
wellards · 26/09/2021 09:52

As I said I'm a 2nd gen immigrant, my mum left her home country at 17 to find opportunity. If only instagram & virtue signalling had existed then she could have stayed. 🤔

It's not binary, you can donate to charity & make better, more sustainable choices & still bemoan wage stagnation & whats happening to the NHS in the UK

wellards · 26/09/2021 09:53

Be kind is bullshit,

It's a red flag to me, so insulting & regressive.

Barbadossunset · 26/09/2021 10:00

Got halfway down the first page then sew the Tory HQ interns or whoever they are had appeared win with

Volterra - So anyone criticising Labour is automatically a Tory bot?

Zeal · 26/09/2021 10:04

@Dancingonmoonlight

I think we forget that our neighbours need us too, not just the other way around

Do they though?
I remember reading long threads about Brexit and many many posts saying that as soon as the UK left, Ireland would follow and France would follow Ireland and ridiculous ie never going to happen notions were trotted out over and over most convincingly and some people actually believed that the more they said it, the truer it became.
A few bothered to reply saying it would not happen and they were shot down with a certainty that was mind boggling to read by people living in the countries.
Ireland, in particular, was trampled on by the UK gov.
Import and customs duties mean Irish people are avoiding buying from online UK retailers. But who is this damaging? UK retailers or European retailers? Do France vineyards rely on UK buyers to buy their wine? Or do UK buyers depend on French vineyards? Do Europeans depend on M&S or are they satisfied that Lidl and Aldi and local producers will fulfil their requirements?
Does Spain depend on UK tourism or do UK holiday makers depend on travelling to the sun for their holidays?

The thought process of how much Europe needed the UK was skewed and from reading some posts on MN, this seems to be the case.

This is clearly wrong. There are range of interdependencies of different degrees. Some are a bonus rather than being a reliance. You are overlooking, for example, the thousands of hectares of vineyards owned by British companies, the French farmers who supplied M&S in France etc
FreeBritnee · 26/09/2021 10:05

I can hear ‘race to the bottom’ ringing in my ears. Hence not posting last night.

Still glad to live here!!! If everyone threw their problems into the air you’d be glad to catch your own.

DameCelia · 26/09/2021 10:06

@Topsyturvyloo
Stop with the 'Be Kind' shit !!!
This site is mainly frequented by women, trotting out a phrase used to shut women up is just rude.

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 10:06

Bloody hell.

Kendodd · 26/09/2021 10:06

Well none of it is my fault, I voted Remain and didn't vote Tory.

The people who did can own the mess they've created with their own stupidity for believing such obvious lies.
We get what we vote for.

Topsyturvyloo · 26/09/2021 10:13

Virtue signalling. More like virtue misery.
This is all madness. . I’m Ok with my own attitude to things.
Be kind- as a woman - my choice - I also think being kind happens to be non binary. Thanks .

I didn’t grow up in a bed of roses- I doubt any of us did. I’ll continue on my journey and leave you to it.
