What to do about dog poo woman?

FrankieDobie · 25/09/2021 07:47

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

OP posts:

i find it strange that an 86 year old walks two enormous dogs, surely they would pull her over?

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2021 10:28

Urgh that's disgusting. If she can walk 2 massive dogs she's able to pick up after them.

Shes being a CF or she would let them.go at home, or equipped herself with something or someone to help her pick up after them.

Dog poo can cause blindness. She's clearly happy to allow children or a wheelchair user risk their eye sight so she doesn't have to bother being a responsible owner.

Nice old lady my arse. Nice old ladies wouldn't do this.

I love the money idea!

TheChiefJo · 25/09/2021 10:31

Just contact the council OP. They have ultimate responsibility for clean streets, it is not for you to clean up. If the council want to pursue the owner for money, they will. If they choose to exempt her, they can, but they still have to clean it for you.

@RandomUsernameHere

I actually can't believe the comments on here defending the dog owner. If she's not capable of picking up after the dogs then she either shouldn't have them or she should get a dog walker. To those defending her, how would you feel if your DC stepped in that dog mess on the way to school?
This.

I’d bag it up and take it to her. Ask her again to pick it up then dump on her doorstep without a bag.
I hate lazy fuckers not picking after their dogs and age has nothing to do with it.
See yourself how nice it is to scrub the carpet because somebody in the house stepped in it and didn’t notice

Nsky · 25/09/2021 10:32

Bag it, give it to her, sorted.
I did this and said to the woman I think this belongs to you, sorted it

You'd think, especially as they are sight hounds. What happens if they see a cat or a squirrel?
SoupDragon · 25/09/2021 10:33

Thank you f or decency and humanity

Which the dog walking woman clearly lacks. She was not apologetic at all and therefore has an attitude problem, not a mobility problem. I mean, it's possible to have both but people with decency and humanity would use one of the many tools available to pick up or at least be apologetic about it.

Being 86 does not exempt you from your responsibilities. If she genuinely can’t bend then she needs to find a suitable solution- long handled poop scoop or employ a dog walker, for example. The dogs may be her company and very important to her, but that doesn’t mean she gets to leave dog poo wherever she goes with impunity. OP should not have to pick up someone else’s dog’s faeces from outside her house regularly.

Macncheeseballs · 25/09/2021 10:41

What a vile woman, I'd bag it and put it on her doorstep

Bloody hell some awful replies here. I would just pick up the poo myself, it would take less than two minutes of my time and why not be be helpful to a frail old lady? I want to live in a world where people are kind and helpful so I do my bit. People often help me too and I really appreciate it. Sometimes people help me carry my buggy upstairs. I’m a shop the other day I realised I had forgot my purse so the shopkeeper said I could come and pay later. No one is obliged to help me but it’s nice when they do.
I am kind and helpful, and I would carry a buggy , and have done, up flights of stairs etc, or any other number of tasks to help people in emergencies or need. But this is not an emergency or a need beyond her control. , she CHOOSES to have dogs knowing they will shit every day and CHOOSES to disregard the law every day . No one is forcing her to have dogs. Her choice. What she is doing is nasty, a health hazard, totally disrespectful to other pavement users as other posters mention like wheel chair users, Pra ms, children’s push alongs, and her attitude is appalling. I certainly would not do anything to lift a finger for anyone in those circumstances. She sounds a selfish old woman who thinks she can get away with being a menace. That is not being unkind to not help her- particularly when the job is unpleasant, unhygienic and completely avoidable but not having dogs. By your reckoning you’d be ok to wipe the dog shit off your neighbours shoes, before they went into their house, that they trod in because some little old lady let their dog shit on the pavement?
PomegranateQueen · 25/09/2021 10:47

I wonder if any of the 'be kind' brigade on here live near the OP? Maybe they could pop over to OP's house and pick up the shit for her?

People are very quick to say 'be kind' when the issue doesnt affect them. If you can't pick up dog shit, you should not have a dog.

ancientgran · 25/09/2021 10:47
@ancientgran maybe she did have someone to help her.

Maybe she was a cougar with a young fit partner who's now buggared off with the OW, leaving her lonely and bereft with his two giant dogs 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 the bastard
She was doing well at 86 to have the energy for a young fit partner and two huge dogs. I reckon she could pick it up if she wanted to. Do you think he buggered off as she was too much for him?

Just thought, maybe she's out hunting for a new partner and the dogs are trained to find fit young lovers for her.

There a difference between helping someone downstairs with a buggy and picking up giant turds on a daily basis. If the poor sweet little old lady had asked nicely then maybe OP would help, but her attitude was more 'fuck you I'm old and I'll do what the hell I want'.
Sandles12 · 25/09/2021 10:50

Wolf hounds only live about 8 years or so , so she was elderly enough when she chose to take on the responsibility. Her responsibility to clear up after them. She's bound to have to do it in their pen or her garden at home. No excuse.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/09/2021 10:51

@NonShallot

She basically can't be arsed is what she's telling you.

If she can't bend down to pick up the poo, how on earth is she strong/robust enough to be in full control of two big dogs like that?

I would report your concerns to the neighbour/community policing team in your area, voicing concerns regarding her ability to care for and control the dogs.

Absolutely, what would happen if one or both dogs wanted to get to someone or something, she couldn’t control them. How ridiculous to have such dogs at that age.
WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/09/2021 10:52

Yup, if you know where she lives, i agree.

If OP lives anywhere near me I’d do it. I’ll even provide the poo bags. I live in a place where people would do it without even questioning it.
Orangesox · 25/09/2021 10:56

YANBU!

The whole “oh she’s a frail old lady” thing doesn’t wash with me I’m afraid. She’s someone who’s self-entitled and has decided she doesn’t fancy picking up dog turds whilst walking them. She can’t be frail if she’s out walking two wolf-hounds on a daily basis.

Ita as simple as, unless the dog is a guide dog who’s been caught out and not able to go in their designated spot where they would normally poop, and their owner is so visually impaired that they can’t see the poop to pick it up, then there’s simply no excuse for not picking the poop up!

I’m a disabled dog owner, on the days that I feel I can’t pick up poop because my back is worse than usual, my girl goes in the garden before we go for said walk… if she’s not been, then we don’t walk. There’s not a chance in hell I’d leave her poop just lying around on the street.

MatildaIThink · 25/09/2021 10:57

You are not being unreasonable, she is being a cunt and trying to use her age as an excuse.

PlonkyWillyWonky · 25/09/2021 11:07

I think her attitude and lack of apology would piss me right off , I'd be asking her how/who will be picking it up
Push home that its her problem to sort out

Decency would be picking up your dog's shit.

Staryflight445 · 25/09/2021 11:19

If she can’t bend down to pick up their shit how on earth is she feeding and watering them?

slashlover · 25/09/2021 11:20

To all the "she's 86!" people - what age is an acceptable age to not pick up dog poo?

If she was 26 would it be ok? If she was 46? 56? 66? At what age is the switch?
