We are now being called bodies with vaginas by one of the top medical journals in the land

YANBU the word is woman
YABU shut up VAGINA haver

This will probably get shunted back to the naughty corner. But this is something women need to know. Coming soon to a GP surgery near you. As a vagina haver you may be invited for a cervical smear.

This is what the erasure of women looks like. Splayed on the front cover of the journal read by every medic in the land.

Prospect, I think ‘testicle bearer’ would be a good term given the fuss given to bollocks generally within society. And those bad boys need a lot of care and nurturing, hence all the manspreading on public transport. We should give them more linguistic prominence. 😁

Northernsouloldies · 26/09/2021 05:57

I'm not a woke type and speaking as a man I can see why women get pissed off. Only women have vaginas, only women have periods. And women only areas are a must. I hate using public loos cos there are some creepy fuckers about and sometimes I feel uneasy and I'm male.

😳

For once, I am speechless.

EdgeOfACoin · 26/09/2021 06:45

I’m biologically female with a vagina. I’m categorically NOT a woman. I’m also not a transman. I’m nonbinary, always have been (over 40 years now, so a bloody long “phase”).
We are so much more than our bodies (have a look at society, biological differences explain almost none of the societal differences).

Trust me, in 1900 your Non-binary identity wouldn't have got you the vote.

In 1970, you would have struggled to get a mortgage in your own name, despite your Non-binary identity.

In 1860 you wouldn't have been able to own your own property, despite your internal identity.

So tell me, exactly, what makes you 'not like other girls'? You reap the rewards that previous generations of female-bodied people (women) fought for, yet deny that you are part of the same class of people.

What is that apart from internalised misogyny?

Spiindoctor · 26/09/2021 06:54

Here we go with the trans bashing again.

Nobody is trying to erase women. They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary.

There, fixed it for you.

Why not women with vaginas and women with penises? That's very precise and accurate.

Do you have XY chormosomes?

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

Well said. I don’t get all the trans bashing on mums net either

Underamour · 26/09/2021 07:47

No words needed.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2021 08:09

@aloris

I just have one question. Are these living bodies with vaginas, or dead bodies with vaginas?
Given the quote re anatomy and physiology, I'd guess it refers to both.
AgentJohnson · 26/09/2021 08:13

@EdgeOfTheSky, thanks.

Holly60 · 26/09/2021 08:14

@MaxNormal

That is a belief system, and should not be conflated with medical reality.

Well the medical reality is some humans have vaginas, and some don’t. Medical reality doesn’t require the word woman to be used in this context. So where is the problem?

They’ve just said they are biologically female. It’s very clear.
NashvilleQueen · 26/09/2021 08:26

I do hope for anyone who thinks that The Lancet is correct is also writing furious letters to the editor every time they see an article that uses the term 'men' rather than an inclusive term. Because if you don't you're a hypocrite.

NewlyGranny · 26/09/2021 08:27

Interesting that the body part most often chosen to identify us bodies is the one most men are most interested in... Given the article is about menstruation, you'd think the uterus would be a more obvious choice as the source rather than the mere exit channel.

But that would mean looking at it from the point of view of the menstruator rather than the (male?) external observer I guess.

Funny I've never come across clitoris-haver as a way to dodge saying woman, either. Let's all agree to forget women are evolved to experience pleasure and focus instead on what pleasures men!

And have you noticed that the only people allowed to use the words woman or women unchallenged are the trans activists? Those terms are not in our permitted vocabulary any more, only in theirs...

Meanwhile, the use of man and men goes merrily on as normal. 🤔

Holly60 · 26/09/2021 08:27

Everything that I see of the gender critical community just screams of such internalised hatred and rage that I actually feel sorry for it’s members. Please don’t feel that anyone who is different to yourself is posing a threat to your own identity. It’s just not true. You are welcome to identify as a woman because you are biologically female, or a man because you are biologically male, but don’t be threatened because others don’t. Just because a medical journal doesn’t affirm that you are a woman because you are biologically female, doesn’t make you less of a woman if that is how you identify.

We know a lot of hatred comes from fear, so perhaps identify what is frightening you specifically, and try to deal with that internally rather than lashing out and trying to prevent others from identifying how they want to.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2021 08:27

Medical reality didn't require a description reducing us to 'bodies with either. Hmm 'Females' or 'female bodies' would have been fine.
Can you really not see why so many women (and some transmen) find this sort of labelling objectionable?

I think context is everything here though. Some biological females don’t have a vagina and so can’t go for a standard smear test.

The point in the lancet is regarding anyone with a vagina, because those with vaginas can access smear tests. If you have a vagina, you are included in this, regardless of how you identify.

Awalkintime · 26/09/2021 08:36

That would be everyone who is female then. Just use the word female and then it is inclusive of everyone who the article refers to.

Holly60 · 26/09/2021 08:36

Possibly i would concede ‘female sex organs including a vagina’

Holly60 · 26/09/2021 08:37

Nope because some females have had reassignment surgery so no longer have a vagina. They wouldn’t be able to access a standard smear test.
DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 26/09/2021 08:38

Such patronising nonsense. Fear? Of men who pretend to be women? No.

Rage, that they expect us to agree that they are women when they are not, and that organisations subscribe to such nonsense, yes. Rage that they want to gaslight women and girls into accepting men in single sex spaces, into claiming a woman can be someone with a penis, yes.

Gender critical views aren't based on the transwomens' fantasy that they're better women than real women are.

The thing is, your ‘rage’ is completely impotent. I think your energies would be better spent just looking for joy in life, because that is what the trans community is busy doing.

Don’t look back in 50 years and regret spending your time feeling angry at a community of people who are merrily oblivious to your own personal sense of outrage.

Awalkintime · 26/09/2021 08:44

Holly60
They are still females even after gender reassignment.
