As a dreaded millennial and a mother I find it very sad and very true for a lot of people I know.

I’m a Millennial myself so you can grab your handbag and do one.

Samuraisammy · 23/09/2021 23:56

@AutistGoth

wellards · 23/09/2021 23:58

yes I couldn't have bought without parental help despite being able to live at home. A couple of years younger & all things being equal prices would have been out of my reach.

As I said, I am very lucky and own a lovely house. That doesn't stop your comments being factually wrong.

I am a "millenial" too. Not sure what your point is except that you are ignorant or economics?
Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:00

@OddSockReunion with a nice handbag

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:01

A predictably disappointing and fact-free response the all of the facts highlighted by me and other posters.

As I said earlier in the thread, humans are depressing.

How exciting for you. Confused

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:01

Wage stagnation is a massive issue, the salaries in lots of industries are often the same as they were 15 yrs ago.

Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:02

@OddSockReunion my comment was at another poster who assumed I must be a boomer. Not sure why you’re rocking up to my comment other than to want to harp on about your lovely house. Edit nobody cares

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:04

That doesn't stop your comments being factually wrong.

what do you mean facts? why can't I extrapolate my very narrow experience to the rest of the country? 🤔

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 24/09/2021 00:04

By the time you factor in the cost of housing, especially the cost of housing, bills, repayment of tuition fees, the ever increasing cost of living,it’s a big enough gamble before even thinking about children.
Obviously this doesn’t apply if you get council housing.

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:05

I should also add to this that taxes are higher now die to fiscal drag (tax rates not being uprated with inflation): you used to in the '80s need to be earning the equivalent of £85k today be paying higher rate income tax. Now it's less than half of that.

Great point

AutistGoth · 24/09/2021 00:06

@Samuraisammy Yes, your earlier post about how you and your OH believe young people are frittering away money by not living at home with their parents as fully grown adults is very much indicative of you being a Millennial.

Several users have now explained why you are wrong. But it suits you better to believe that it's all our own fault. Why admit that Millennials have problems that Boomers did not and Boomers had advantages that Millennials do not when you can simply brand everyone (except you, apparently) born from 1980 to 2000 as selfish, lazy, feckless and living their lives wrong?

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:07

Edit nobody cares

However we are all waiting with bated breath for more of your excellent insights!

I only said I am a homeowner to preempt tedious attacks about how I must be so jealous and bitter etc when actually, despite my lucky situation, it's obvious to me that most of my (and according to you, our) generation have been utterly screwed. What is perplexing is why it is not obvious to you. Is this like the Brexit thing where people had "had enough of experts" so decided that their opinions based on the people they know were more reliable than data and economics? Not working out so well, that approach, is it?

Nat6999 · 24/09/2021 00:09

I bought my first home in 2001 & paid £34,000 for it, that house is now worth £125,000 but salaries haven't kept pace with house prices. Ds is 17, I can't ever see a time where he will be able to buy a home of his own. We are getting to a stage where we have an elderly heavy population, as elderly people are retiring there aren't young people starting work to replace them, lots of my generation have only had one child because we either chose to have children much older or because we couldn't afford to have more than one child. Until the economy is in a better state I can't see this changing. We need more young people to fill jobs & to pay taxes or the economy will eventually grind to a halt.

But what kind of handbag is it??? We are all dying to know. I am sure it is amazeballs. How many avocado on toast did you sacrifice to buy it? Please share your wisdom with us.

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:13

@OddSockReunion oh sorry I was being sarcastic there & predicting Samuras response.

Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:13

The ladies are retiring with their handbags

Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:17

You’ve got the handbags with all your getting knickers in a twist.
All this ‘how dare you’ nonsense from a previous poster and other handbag codswallop.

It was very funny, I just didn't get the sarcasm when I first read it. 🤦🏻‍♀️😆
