As a dreaded millennial and a mother I find it very sad and very true for a lot of people I know.

Yeah I can't afford to waste money on handbags 😱😄
Can't you come up with a better retort to getting challenged on your posts then pipe down with a cuppa soup? I guess you've admitted defeat, so why don't you jog on & share your "wisdom" on other threads.

Sleepyhungryfattyanddoc · 24/09/2021 00:18

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey

I bought my house in "92" for 16k . It has rotting windows, no central heating, no inside bathroom, no fitted kitchen and woodchip on every wall. We sat on my aunts conservatory furniture for 2years and the first winter in the house was bloody freezing. We didn't care though as we owned our home. Very few people would live like that now days
Sounds similar to the house I just bought for 300k…
Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:19

No defeat admitted???? Just facts. Place is brimming with handbags and cuppa soups.

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:20

@Samuraisammy

The ladies are retiring with their handbags
So you're off to take your handbag that after boasting about you won't name (oh and the irony of boasting about a "very naaaaice handbag" on a post where you're scathing millenials for being too focused on luxuries to buy property 😂 so whether it's a cheap Primark job or a Mulberry it's equally hilarious - well done!) to retire from the world of questions about facts to dreams about unicorns and stuff. Enjoy!
OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:21

@Samuraisammy

You’ve got the handbags with all your getting knickers in a twist. All this ‘how dare you’ nonsense from a previous poster and other handbag codswallop.
If this was aimed at me, I apologise but I do not understand. Can you please rephrase it in standard English?
Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:23

@OddSockReunion I’m talking about you because you said you were off to bed. I meant you were off to bed with your handbag after dancing around with it for the last half an hour getting offended left right and centre :0)

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:24

I'm not a gambler by nature, but I'm pretty certain @Samuraisammy is not a "millenial". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You certainly love the word handbag! are you on a personal mission to see how many times you can insert the word into a post? I don't know many millennials who use the word handbags as some kind of insult....

nobody cares & yet you are still here, you should listen to your own advice.

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:24

@OddSockReunion the language is a bit of a giveaway

Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:25

@OddSockReunion some other poster rolled up their sleeves and said ‘how dare you’ and it was actually very funny to even bother to say that. Like victor Mildrew on acid.

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:26

Place is brimming with handbags and cuppa soups.

What does brimming with cuppa soups even mean?

I am off to bed. Did you think that would mean I'd fall asleep instantly like a small child? Bless. I think you may have got your dates confused but millenials aren't 3 year olds. Maybe your boomer brain is getting decrepit and can't do maths anymore. 😬

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:27

Yep!!! Never heard a millenial say "codswallop" in my life. Hilariously bad attempt at lying. Has made me laugh a lot. 😁

wellards · 24/09/2021 00:29

yes it has been amusing, but i'm off to bed too now, very sleepy.

imnotdrunk · 24/09/2021 00:29

@MintJulia

I have 17 millennial nephews & nieces. Only two have children (one each).

The others are working abroad, in the forces, not married, doing post-grad research, not interested in children. Five have their own homes so they have the space but mostly they are focussed on having a good time. The two who have children are the oldest. The others seem to regard children as something to do, late 30s or 40s.

None is pining for the chance to have a baby as far as I can see.

The Guardian article seems to have been written by someone from an older generation with different expectations.

This is so true! My 3 children are all late twenties and in long term relationships. They all say they want to travel, and get their houses done up first. That people don't think about babies these days until they're in their early 30s.

Two of them are home owners and saved for years while living at home. My son freely admits he'd have had loads more saved if he hadn't bought a new car and gone out most weekends with his friends. He's not bothered about his student loan he knows he wouldn't have got his job without his degree.

I told our family WhatsApp group someone on here said this generation had been f...ed over. They said no one wants to start off in a rubbish flat in a bad area, they want a nice place with nice things straightaway, and a lot of their friends blow all their salary each month and then moan they can't afford to move out.

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:30

@OddSockReunion I’m talking about you because you said you were off to bed. I meant you were off to bed with your handbag

This has to be the weirdest one of the night. Why would anybody go to bed with their handbag? The mind boggles.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 24/09/2021 00:31

@Nat6999

I bought my first home in 2001 & paid £34,000 for it, that house is now worth £125,000 but salaries haven't kept pace with house prices. Ds is 17, I can't ever see a time where he will be able to buy a home of his own. We are getting to a stage where we have an elderly heavy population, as elderly people are retiring there aren't young people starting work to replace them, lots of my generation have only had one child because we either chose to have children much older or because we couldn't afford to have more than one child. Until the economy is in a better state I can't see this changing. We need more young people to fill jobs & to pay taxes or the economy will eventually grind to a halt.
Exactly this re more young people to fill jobs.But sadly unless it’s a bloody good paying job,there is still too much financial pressure to house yourself.
Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:33

Not sure how many boomers would know what being a mosher/townie/scene kid/emo/chav/scallie when you watched jackass, pop world,South Park to family guy whilst playing guitar hero?? Get over yourselves!

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:36

Well indeed. Which is why is was probably unwise to reject highly skilled, highly qualified Europeans moving here who have common cultural values with us and were also young and net taxpayers: using social housing less than British people, paying more tax than British people, using the NHS etc less than British people, and consistently making a net economic, social and industrial contribution to our economy throughout the period where we were involved in free movement in Europe. Without even going into the opportunities, rights and protections that young British people have now lost.

Those that voted for Brexit should hang their heads in shame. All of what was branded "project fear" 😂😂😂😂😂 is predictably coming to pass now.

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 00:37

Again, not sure what that means at all. I make many typos but this is completely unintelligible.
Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 00:39

You’re all convinced I’m a boomer when I’ve just used references of a millennial growing up. Do the math.

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 01:13

@Samuraisammy

Lol. I suspect you just have a millenial child, given that some of the references and your language is totally off. So no, not buying it, sorry.

You even posted - as another poster pointed out - how you and your DH think young people these days should just move in with their parents and save for a house deposit or something along those lines. 😂😂

If you were of of our generation you'd be aware why that's impossible for many, even if you personally happen to be rich/ lucky/ academically able so you could dig yourself put of the hole despite the odds against it etc; unless you are just so obtuse that you cannot comprehend that many people have more challenging life circumstances than you happen to have had, and have no true friends outside of the socio-economic group that you - by chance - were born into.

Either way I feel sorry for you.

OddSockReunion · 24/09/2021 01:15

Also we're not American. It is called mathS.

Samuraisammy · 24/09/2021 01:25

Not sure what else I can say other than handbags and cuppa soup?
