Ridiculous name for baby

PegorySpeck · 23/09/2021 16:24

My step son and gf have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither me nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence. Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘ oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.

Any advice on how to move forward?

Is it Sochal Distonce? Only to be pronounced with a French accent?

Lunchroom.

Armadillo.

Surprise.

Mommabear20 · 23/09/2021 17:14

Use its name!
What are you going to say when the baby grows up and asks why you don't say it's name? ' because you don't like it' is not a god reason and will probably offend said child more than the parents. If you love the baby, grow the hell up!

Anonymouseposter · 23/09/2021 17:14

If it's very unusual OP can't say it on here.
If you want to keep good relationships OP you have no option but to use the name. I hope it isn't too ridiculous. There's a possibility that it's awful and you're being given an unfairly hard time on here but whatever it is you need to use it without showing any dislike.

That's not diplomatic it's downright rude. Their babies name is not your problem. Call the child it's name and stop behaving so badly.

Exactly this

It's the baby's name, whether you like it or not. So it's a done deal and you'll just have to muster every sinew of strength in your body and use it.

Cheeserton · 23/09/2021 17:17

Obviously just a wind up unless you actually tell us the damn name.

Laiste · 23/09/2021 17:17

I think some noun names are rather lovely. River Phoenix for eg.

Bet they change those when they’re adults. I bet the latter gets called Bambi all the time.

If it's a really stupid name then the registrar might have a quiet word with them, are you even allowed to register a baby with Adolf as their name? I thought you couldn't

2bazookas · 23/09/2021 17:18

Give him an adorable little nickname and keep burbling to the baby "Oh you are Granny/Grandads darling little Bunny/Toddy/ Frog/Beetle yes you are",

user147856 · 23/09/2021 17:18

Are your step son and GF French? Have they called their DD Fanny?
I knew a French woman whose English was very good, but maybe her colloquial English was weak, whose DD is now the proud owner of that name.

Seriallover · 23/09/2021 17:19
