Ridiculous name for baby

My step son and gf have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither me nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence. Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘ oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.

Any advice on how to move forward?

I'd (reluctantly) call him Storm (very quietly out in public) but never Stormy-Water.

They should have got themselves a feature fir the garden instead of an actual baby

It's awful. Call him Storm. There's not much more you can do. The parents chose the name and if you don't want to never see your son again, you are going to have to find a way to call your grandson by his name.

Wow OP I understand why you are struggling to use the child's name. It really is a shocker. Poor child. Maybe as an adult/teen they will get to change it to something less ridiculous. In the meantime I would be tempted to call them Storm.

I am usually very much on the 'it's their child, their choice' but I agree. Stormy-Water Cloud is ridiculous and child abuse imo.
Just asked my 13 year old if there was a child in his class called stormy-water. He said he would feel bad for them and they would be bullied, not by him he added but they would be bullied.

Why oh why did they hyphernate the 'Water' bit?! Can you imagine registration in class time "Stormy-water?" "Present miss". As if Stormy isn't embarrassing enough without the 'water' attached

I think once her reaches 11 he'll drop the water and not declare that's even what he's called! Unless he is unbelievably confident, Cool, and theatrical! Then be might get away with it a bit...

My brother officially changed his name to his middle name age 11, because he hated his first name so much. His name wasn't nearly half as bad as stormy water cloud!!!! And poor little stormy water doesn't even have the luxury of a half decent middle name he can use instead :(
