Ridiculous name for baby

My step son and gf have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither me nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence. Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘ oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.

Any advice on how to move forward?

What a dickhead thing to cringe about. That's a tiny little baby person and you are being an arse about their name; something that has nothing to do with you and a choice you have to respect. What purpose does cringing have? Do you want to make your relative feel bad?

OP I can see why you and your husband are are a bit perplexed by this but ultimately it's not your choice. Nobody ever uses the full double barrell anyway. He'll end up going by Storm or Stormy, which is not that bad.

There was a very cute baby Maverick in my NCT group. I’ve moved away long since, but DH is friends with his mother on FB and she says he’s an incredibly risk-averse 9 year old.

Cross post! I love the name storm . In the us names like that are really popular. You turn on the TV and the hosts are called Chase, Leaf and River. It’s no stranger than any other name and of it’s time. Only one problem -Stormy water does conjure up a picture of a few bushes and a random turd floating past . I’ll show myself out sorry OP xxx

No… Stormy-Water is his first name. Middle name Cloud.

SIL1's boys have ridiculous names in our opinion. The only time I ever commented wZ when MIL started taking the Mickley out of her nephew and his wife who called their dd Arabella. Before I had time to think I barked she was hardly in a position to ridicule Arabella when her grandson's were called ridiculous made up names 1 and 2.

Well that's a bit of an anti climax to be honest.

As PP have said, it will be shortened to Stormy rapidly, and Storm by the time he starts school. I think it's quite a nice name. I went to school with a girl called Storm. I also know a Rainbow.
