What are your favourite things about your children?

I think Mumsnet can sometimes give quite a negative impression about having children, because people are (understandably) so much more likely to post about the tough times than the good ones. I thought it might be nice to have some balance by talking about the best bits!

So let me know - what are your favourite things about your children?

I have a son, nearly ten months old. Some of my favourite things are:

When he waves at you and you wave back and it makes him beam all over his face.

When he’s excited about something and he stamps his feet like he’s doing the cucuracha.

How interested he is in everything.

The way he gets hysterics when you say ‘achoo!’

The breathless, snorty gasps of excitement he does whenever he sees me or his dad.

The way he kisses me on the cheek with his whole mouth open and it’s so gross but so cute.

Let me know yours!

I have 14 year old twins. I love that they sleep a lot

Changednamesorry · 22/09/2021 20:00

My ten year old son is very thoughtful and extremely kind with little ones. My four year old son is very very funny. Smile

Katiebee008 · 22/09/2021 20:01

My nearly 5 year old gets really competitive with me over who loves who the most.

He has the most beautiful smile.

He is so inquisitive and just loves to learn new things.

He shares my love of books.

He is ridiculously funny.

He is so kind and caring.

When they all go out

Mammma91 · 22/09/2021 20:03

I have a 2 year old son.

I love how happy he is, he takes everything in his stride and he’s the most loving little boy. He has an infectious laugh and I love watching him figure out his own little world one day at a time. He’s my absolute pride and joy!

VienneseWhirligig · 22/09/2021 20:03

My DS is an adult. I love how he is still my pal, still wants to hang out with me and go to the cinema occasionally. He has his own life and his own friends, but he also likes doing stuff with me.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2021 20:03

I have three young adult sons. The very best thing is when they haven't seen me for a while and they wrap me up in a great, big bear hug. It's wonderful Smile

Amirite · 22/09/2021 20:04

My son randomly comes out with the funniest phrases that you just don’t see coming and cracks us up. His face when he makes us laugh just lights up. He’s naturally funny and loves being daft with me.

My daughter is such a sassy madam, she’s always observing me and watching me do every day stuff and taking it all in. I love how she’s interested in me, I don’t know why but I think it’s lovely she cares so much about how I do things? She also smiles with her whole face and can be so loving.

They’re pretty great 🥰

MakkaPakkas · 22/09/2021 20:04

My 13 year old son has such a lovely amenable nature. There's no malice in him whatsoever.
My 11 year old daughter is so cuddly and loving and one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Also one of the funniest.

Comedycook · 22/09/2021 20:05

My dd is 11 and we have loads in common...we love shopping together, baking, arts and crafts and watching comedy shows. I love spending time with her doing these things.

My ds is a total lad, sports mad, harder for me to relate to in that sense but he is so perceptive and funny! He makes some brilliant observations about people

MovingSchmoving · 22/09/2021 20:05

My two year old is hilarious and loves to make us laugh. She is so affectionate and she tries her best at everything even though she has had some struggles/delays. I love how much she loves to dance and watching her little face beam when she dances makes my heart swell with pride.

Also got a baby girl and I love how chilled she is, she just watches the world go by. But she is also a bit of a mummy’s girl and if she does cry she stops as soon as I pick her up. I love the way she snuggles into me and the huge smile she gives me when I talk to her.

Lovely thread OP

My children are adults now.

It's been a journey. Highs and lows.

But they have always made my heart sing.

esloquehay · 22/09/2021 20:06

I've got twin daughters, 3.5...

As siblings, I LOVE their imaginative, interactive play.

Twin 1: I love how she seems to be a lot.lf thought into what she is trying to say.
She has a great sense of humour and is very quirky.

Twin 2: She is such a kind, sensitive child.
She's really mischievous and it's so hard not to laugh when she is being a pickle sometimes, as she is very engaging.

I also love the fact they are really active and energetic.

burritofan · 22/09/2021 20:08

My two year old’s phrases: “better get cracking!” “How bout this for an idea.” “Maybe I have one more then you stop being so naughty and saying no.”

When she shouts “Cuddles! Hooray!” and hooks her arms around my neck.

Her boundless enthusiasm for and joy in everything, and abiding sense of self-belief.

These are making me teary ❤️

Dd3 is so caring and cuddly and kind. She loves to go on Pinterest with me and we look at cats, dogs, horses, lions and the latest obsession octopuses. She also says no a lot but in a good natured way, everything is a game. So cheeky and sweet. She used to have big meltdowns but since timeout imolemented she never does. I am so proud of her and cant wait to see the woman she becomes in time. I cant wait for when shes a bit older and i can share books and films with her and we can do various activities. She has a natural thing towards being a princess which I never encouraged and always thought was artificial disney type stuff, but it turns out it is innate. She was asking to be a princess over and over, and I am calling her that sometimes as she loves it and it makes her feel special. I am looking forward to making her feel loved and supported for her whole life. I love her smile, her laugh, her sense of humour, her imaginary games.

londonrach · 22/09/2021 20:12

My dd aged 5 gives the best hugs in the world....whole body hugs.....mummy hugs she calls them...my favourite part of the day is mummy hugs in the morning in bed.....

KingofEverything · 22/09/2021 20:14

The way they see life. They wake up happy and everything is exciting. Their observations and questions make me laugh.
Cuddles. Thoughtful gestures.

On my birthday this year (single parent) my 9yo and 6yo worked together over several days to make me birthday bunting with cute messages on. They then stuck up those and other drawings around the house to surprise me. The 9yo then made me toast for breakfast.

BeyondMyWits · 22/09/2021 20:17

Mine are 19 and 20 and at the university stage of their lives, last week they were sat, heads together on the sofa giggling at the Simpsons movie, the sound of their joy as grown-up sisters just made my heart melt.

hiptobeasquare · 22/09/2021 20:17

I love how my five year old is a demon on his bike. He has dyspraxia and the fact he can ride his bike is massive, but the fact he is amazing at it brings me such joy. He is so confident.

My three year old loves singing and it makes me so happy to hear her talking about her favourite singer (Dolly Parton). Listening to her sing 9-5 or Two Doors Down is just heartwarming.

Suzi888 · 22/09/2021 20:17

DD 5 is kind to animals, we have an elderly dog and she will smooth him and give him a fuss, play with him etc.
She can be helpful (at times!)

She loves spending time with my elderly mum, (whose physically challenged, due to arthritis) they sit playing cards for hours. She helps her a lot, passing her things, picking things up.
She’s usually fairly bouncy and happy.

Shelovesamystery · 22/09/2021 20:19

6yo DD - I love how funny she is without meaning to be, she cracks me up every day. I love her facial expressions, especially when she's trying to be cross with me 😂 I love how caring she is towards her little brother. I love how kind hearted she is. I love that she has a real passion for learning about anything and everything, she's a little sponge. I love this thing she does where she will suddenly tense up and a big grin will spread over her face and I know that she's lost in her own imaginary world where something incredibly fun is happening.

3yo DS - I love how cute his little face still is, it melts my heart. I love how much he adores his big sister and that he tries to be just like her. I love his mischievous streak. I love watching him play, he gets so focused and completely zones out of what's going on around him. I love watching him singing nursery rhymes, especially when they are ones that he has made up himself 😂 I love how excited he gets for bedtime stories.

Ds 7.
His quick personality. His intelligence. His perfect face.

Omnomnomy · 22/09/2021 20:21

My baby girl's kindest most loving smile with her eyes and open toothless mouth. Oh and her giggles which are to die for! ❤️

golddustwomen · 22/09/2021 20:21

4 year old son - he really does drive me round the bend but he is also the funniest person I have ever met! I am constantly laughing when I'm with him. He is also such loving, kind and caring little boy. Very proud of him.

7 year old dd - she is just bloody beautiful. Her smile lights up the room. She loves all animals and will stop to say hello to any dog or we see, I love that about her. Mood swings in full force these days, but I am very proud to be her mom.
