"Daddy Daughter Date" AIBU?

Friend is seperated. Her ex has the kids EOW and takes them out once a week each individually. All good. Except she insists on calling the time he spends with their dd as a Daddy Daughter Date. I cannot satisfactorily explain why but it winds me up! It just sounds wrong somehow, not in an inappropriate way dont get me wrong, just nauseating and twee and I get the ick whenever she says it. FYI when he does the same with her son she doesnt call that a Daddy Son Date. She doesnt say it about her and her dd when they go out but does call it a Mummy Son Date when its her and the boy.....vom....

AIBU for hating this phrase? I know IABU for getting so wound up over something that does not impact me in anyway!

As for children being your "bestie"... Ugh, ugh, ugh.

HappyDays101010 · 22/09/2021 20:55

Really? Confused It sounds totally inappropriate to me. Like those blokes who seem overly invested in their daughter’s virginity.
**@Block* yes, as @Dahlietta* says, I mean ‘each and every parent’. Nothing to do with single parents! Smile
Oh, God, sorry. My misunderstanding (probably fuelled by Single Parent Guilt).

Just Googled "prinny", and this was the first thing. I am none the wiser, and don't see what it has to do with the price of fish:

Prinnies (プリニー, Purinī) are a fictional race of creatures primarily in Nippon Ichi's Disgaea series of role-playing games. First appearing in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, they have appeared in all later titles by the company, as well as on various merchandise such as hats and plush toys. With a few notable exceptions, they are voiced by Junji Majima in Japanese releases and Grant George in the English releases from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness to Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. The Prinnies are regarded as the mascots for the Disgaea series and have received generally positive reception.

Thanks @Handsoffstrikesagain I don't do social media as am an old gimmer. Sounds completely ick, though.

Mothersister · 22/09/2021 21:03

It’s creepy and inappropriate. Another crappy Americanism.

LizzieW1969 · 22/09/2021 21:04

It really does sound creepy to me as well. Completely inappropriate. Hmm

bringincrazyback · 22/09/2021 21:06

YANBU. It's really icky.

CallmeHendricks · 22/09/2021 21:09

While we're at it, I'm also very irritated by "my mini-me."

RiotAtTheRodeo · 22/09/2021 21:14

Gives me the creeps.

Used by those gun totin' evangelical Christians who are obsessed with their tiny daughter's future sex life. Weird, weird, weird. And once the daughter turns 13 daddy brings her to one of those purity balls where she pledges to her daddy to remain a virgin until marriage.

Absolute freaks of men.

Look at this...this...don't know exactly how to describe it. Some people would say it's charming and lovely I say it's weird af. Not all loving relationships need to be seen through the prism of romantic love, ya freaks!

Block · 22/09/2021 21:20

@Handsoffstrikesagain

The following just all need to get in the bin tbh -
 • Mini me (thank you callmehendricks)
 • Prin
 • Prinny
 • ‘ma bestie’ when describing your child
 • Boss babe (nothing to do with children but I’m venting)
 • Girl boss to describe 48 yr old Sandra from accounts (see above).
 • My little man / my little lady said in icky horrible sickly sweet voice.
 • The hideous spectacle that is a daddy/daughter date.
 • Baby girl - My friends husband is a 48 yr old Major in the Army. He uses this to describe his daughters. It makes me dry heave.

I shall be back when I’ve thought of more. Feel free to add your own!

PMSL.

I'm still recovering from "Prinny", never mind all the other bollocks.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 22/09/2021 21:21

@Handsoffstrikesagain

Good Lord riot that is sooooo soooo creepy I think even the Westboro Baptist Church would have renounced it, and they’re certified crazy (look them up if you fancy falling down a rabbit hole).
Oh yeah, the Westboto mob would put their placards down for 5 seconds to mutter to each other 'they seem a bit weird' Grin
CallmeHendricks · 22/09/2021 21:23

Mini-me is such a narcissistic thing, though, isn't it?
Look at how cute/beautiful my dd is, ergo so am I. Katie Price

Yanbu

NigellaSeed · 22/09/2021 21:25

Oh no, I have referred to me and my 15m old going to a cafe as a coffee date. Just to myself, and probably DP. I think it's cute :(

NigellaSeed · 22/09/2021 21:30

Oh jeez I've just seen calling your child your bestie is VOM. This thread is not for me Blush

RiotAtTheRodeo · 22/09/2021 21:31

'bestie' seems sweet and not at all weird to me Grin

Block · 22/09/2021 21:32

Eh?

Your child is never your 'bestie'. You are the parent and s/he is the child. I have five of them (all 17+), and I 'gel' better with some of them than with others, though love them all equally. I am absolutely not their 'bestie', though.

NigellaSeed · 22/09/2021 21:34

Nah he's my best friend. Sorry. Grin

Don't you remember being a little kid and wanting to marry your mum and dad? So sweet - you can have that vom for free ;)

Lifeisaminestrone · 22/09/2021 21:40

It’s a slightly nauseating term but I think I understand what she means….

It’s highlighting 1 on 1 focused time between a child and parent (without distractions like phones etc).

‘Date’ times with my daughter have always been really memorable.

It doesn’t have to mean anything sexual.

I think sadly people are just too judgemental.
