Will I get this back?

Dd started nursery first day of September, hasn’t settled well and really miserable. It wasn’t the childcare setting I expected and she won’t be going back. I had the meeting today and the head was disappointed, I asked what happens next and she said nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m just to go in and collect her things tomorrow.
When she started, I paid a deposit, the months fees and for her art apron. I didn’t have time to discuss this as just really wanted to get it said that she wouldn’t be coming back.
Anyone know the general rules on this?

Depends what the contract or Ts and Cs say.

NerrSnerr · 20/09/2021 18:47

I'll be surprised if you get the deposit back as that is usually to save the place but it depends on what the t&c say. The t&c will also have about the novice period.

RoseGoldGlasses · 20/09/2021 18:52

I doubt you'll get it back tbh.

Alwaysblowingballoonsup · 20/09/2021 18:58

Yes I haven’t given a notice period and was worried she would say I had to pay the next 60 days or something, so I kept quiet!

You will probably still be invoiced for the notice period as you've not followed the terms and conditions you have agreed to.

LST · 20/09/2021 19:04

If you signed a contract then surely it should be followed.

Sparklesocks · 20/09/2021 19:05

It’s probably laid out in the terms of the agreement as a pp said but I don’t think it’s likely you’ll get anything back

SpamIAm · 20/09/2021 19:10

You'll have to pay for the notice period. Normally a month in my experience but obviously check your contract.

Gardenwalldilema · 20/09/2021 19:14

You'll probably get a bill, not a refund.

Keeping quiet doesn't matter, you'll still have to pay. I'd expect a bill for the fees owed, regardless of whether it was mentioned in the meeting.
Stompythedinosaur · 20/09/2021 19:55

I imagine you'll be invoiced for the notice period.

Alwaysblowingballoonsup · 20/09/2021 20:21

I’m not going to pay for when I’m not there when I’ve paid a deposit and for parts of uniform my Dd hasn’t even worn yet. Plus I’m not going to pay for a place when she’s been shouted at daily and gained nothing but trauma from the experience

ChurchWCat · 20/09/2021 20:22

You will likely be invoiced for the notice period in the contract.

WomanStanleyWoman · 20/09/2021 20:23

Why has she been shouted at daily?

RoseGoldGlasses · 20/09/2021 20:23

How old is your DD?

Alwaysblowingballoonsup · 20/09/2021 20:24

@WomanStanleyWoman They shout at the kids if they don’t sit down etc

What's in the contact you signed? You may not have a choice about what you need to pay. I'm sorry you feel the nursery wasn't a good fit for your DD, but if it was such a traumatic environment i'm wondering why you've left it almost a month before removing her.
Whinge · 20/09/2021 20:26

Contract

WoozySnoozy · 20/09/2021 20:30

They usually take it off the last lot of fees you owe but not sure if it's only been a month. Do you not have to give a month's notice?

Alwaysblowingballoonsup · 20/09/2021 20:37

@WoozySnoozy I’ve paid upfront for the month and not completed the month, laud deposit etc too

OP posts:
Alwaysblowingballoonsup · 20/09/2021 20:39

@Whinge Two and a half weeks really and it was hard enough to wait that long. Wanted to (hoped) she’d settle/enjoy it

OP posts:
Isabellabasil · 20/09/2021 20:42

Your poor DD, if the nursery is shouting at her all the time then you are doing the right thing. Unfortunately though that won't make you exempt from the contract so worth seeing what it says about notice etc..

WoozySnoozy · 20/09/2021 20:44

Yes but it depends on your contract, you might be expected to give notice and pay for that notice period so they'll take it off that.

DysmalRadius · 20/09/2021 20:46

Have you made a complaint about the treatment she's experienced?
