To think that Insulate Britain are an absolute menace…

Just that really. Currently listening to LBC radio.
And they should be held to account for the death of the woman last week who couldn’t reach an hospital for 6 hours, following what would normally have been a much shorter journey. An oncologist also couldn’t get to work, where she was surely urgently needed.
I understand they have a message, but what if they do more help than good?
What do you think?

@HarrietsChariot

They're scum, there's no other word. Well, there are lots of less polite ones I suppose.

When XR were on the rampage a few years back I made a committment not to recycle anything for a year and largely managed it for a long while, though I've gradually slipped back into doing it because of the convenience factor. I also used to leave the taps running as much as possible.

I don't really want to start that nonsense again but this road-blocking bullshit has angered me every bit as much as the XR twats disrupting public transport, so I think I will have to.

I know wasting water and not recycling aren't exactly what "Insulate Britain" are protesting about but it feels like the only action I can reasonably take. At least it's sticking two fingers up to the environmentalist thugs in a general sense.

Some things are easier, I try to buy things that have a lot of "food miles" and processed stuff because often they're cheaper than buying local/organic stuff.

Well isn't that pathetic and puerile of you!

I don't think there is a 'good' way to protest. It's unfortunate that other people are inconvenienced but surely the whole point of protest is to seek attention?

safariboot · 20/09/2021 13:41

I wonder how they'd like it if the police stopped with the kid gloves. Glue to the road? Rip 'em off. They put themselves in the dangerous situation. I'm guessing British law doesn't let the police do that though?

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 20/09/2021 13:54

sst1234 Couldn’t agree more.
According to climate data recorder China contributed 26% of emissions. Just buying non Chinese products would contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gases. Something as simple as stating Country of origin next to the sales price of products could influence how people buy. Unfortunately our law doesn’t call for this, it only needs to be displayed on packaging for customs, not much use when you are buying online or the supermarket labels g is minuscule. Blocking the M25 is not an effective way to tackle climate change. There are far more compelling and efficient ways to tackle the problem. Their actions are illegal and they need significant fines or prison for repeat offenders. Honestly, we can’t afford to run children’s centres but we can spend money on babysitting these entitled morons?

I loathe XR and this new lot, but honestly this post is bonkers and highly irresponsible. Who do you think you are hurting here? It won't be the activists you know. You sound incredibly childish.

Not sure this can be real though. No one is this stupid.

Katerurn · 20/09/2021 14:27

Honestly, what they're doing absolutely disgusts me. I was watching Richard Madeley interview the lady this morning and she kept skirting round his questions. Particularly when it came to holding the protestors who should be held accountable for a lady who is now paralysed because of such a delay getting her to hospital.

They are putting lives at risk, the devastation is far reaching. From people dying, preventing people from getting to work, stopping a person from getting life saving treatment all the way to a baby screaming in a car because they're hungry. Too many circumstance to list but you get the idea.

What's ironic is they're stopping the companies who supply insulation from actually getting to their jobs!

Honestly, they just need locking up!

Newgirls · 20/09/2021 14:30

We should be angry at our useless government really. The U.K. is so behind other countries when it comes to the environment - all green washing and promises for 10 years time.

Not sure what it’s going to take for us to listen really. I don’t want to be stuck in a traffic jam but can see why they feel like doing it.

Pumpkinstace · 20/09/2021 14:34

It reminds me of the animal activists that released the minks.

Stupid and uninformed

this is one of the funniest things I've read on here, you absolute madwoman. Imagine being this stupid.
LoislovesStewie · 20/09/2021 14:38

I read somewhere that one of these idiots lives in a house that has single glazed windows and no insulation. So why hasn't he done something about that?

Tal45 · 20/09/2021 14:39

I thought some anti protest laws were passed a while back to put a stop to this sort of thing? People were up in arms against it but I thought it would be fantastic to be able to use it to put an end to this sort of crap.

I loathe anyone who thinks blocking a road so emergency services can't use it is acceptable for any reason, selfish twats.

Arrowheart · 20/09/2021 14:49

I hate them. Attention seeking idiots.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 20/09/2021 14:55

Yup, total waste of space. All they are doing is pissing people off. Them and their mates in extinction rebellion.

nunamenuyear · 20/09/2021 14:55

I suspect many of these protesters are more concerned with being able to brag that they've been on TV and arrested than the cause they claim to support.

This kind of stupid extreme behaviour is only making it easier for the government to justify the Policing Bill which will also give it the right to shut down peaceful protests.

I suspect the Chief Constables have been instructed to let them go and keep causing disruption to make it easier for PritI Patel to get her draconican legislation through.

worriedatthemoment · 20/09/2021 15:01

@Newgirls like who ? There are lots of countries that are worse and we have a high population ratio as well

derxa · 20/09/2021 15:10

They make my blood boil

beastlyslumber · 20/09/2021 15:21

For once I agree with the Voice of Mumsnet! They cause immense damage and for what? Insulation? Wtf. They should be moved out of the road, at the very least.

sst1234 · 20/09/2021 15:24

@araiwa

Doing something/anything is not the same as achieving meaningful results. Virtue Signallers usually do and say stuff that is meaningless and achieves no results. They just like to feel feel warm and fuzzy and get social media applause. UK contributes less than 1% to global carbon emissions. How exactly is blocking the M25 helping the climate cause?

sst1234 · 20/09/2021 15:26

Same as the co founder of XR, who drives a diesel car. These brainless hypocrites usually have the same intelligence as a single cell organism but like to lecture others.
ufucoffee · 20/09/2021 15:30

I hope someone finds out where they live and hosts a sit in outside their front and back doors, and garage for weeks.

DottyHarmer · 20/09/2021 15:32

They are just professional troublemakers. They wouldn’t recognise insulation if a giant roll flattened them.

I will support any sanctions against the major polluters. In the time it takes me to put a cereal box into the recycling, China has built four coal-fired factories. (And they sent a certain virus our way, too….)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/09/2021 15:34

Pathetic bunch of (mainly) baby boomers who rinsed this country of fossil fuels, never recycled, living off a life pension and homes that have appreciated 16 x since they bought them - holding up the struggling to survive working masses who are more acutely aware of climate change than ever before! I would run one over for sure!

Sorry but are you 3?! That seems such a strange response
Livpool · 20/09/2021 15:40

@NotSure94

There's different ways to cause disruption though isn't there?

The cleverest protests hit those in power hard but don't harm those without. Like the rail strikes I read about once - not sure where but it was abroad - where the staff just opened the barriers and let the people travel for free in protest. Actually benefited those without the power and hit the company in the wallet.

Those poor delivery drivers stuck in that will have got their arses kicked for missing drops and like OP said, harm to health even death caused by disruption. But Jeff Bezos and Boris Johnson probably went about their day not even noticing!

It's a clumsy way to get a headline with a side order of pissing off thousands of people.

👏🏼

Completely agree

twinkletoedelephant · 20/09/2021 15:40

Dh goes to work on m25, an hour each way.

My dc goes to his specialist school in a taxi usually m25... with 6 other children a driver and 1 assistant. Its bad enough the journey is already 90min each way...

Thet should be dragged of the road fined heavily and made to do a hundred hours of Community service for first offence and 30 days prison + huge fine and community service if more than once.

I am worried this may set a president for all other groups "who want there voices heard" look how much news coverage they have recieved...you can bet other groups having been watching with interest...

ohdelay · 20/09/2021 15:55

They should stop providing police protection for unauthorised protests. Let human nature resolve the problem.
