So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

Pandemic???

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/09/2021 14:28

I despite them anyway! It’s rubbish being in a shit situation that you didn’t choose at all, and has been foisted on you.

Alwaystheplusone · 19/09/2021 14:29

Brexit was always going to be a disaster for this country. However, the fire of our anger should be turned on the liars and charlatans who persuaded people to vote for it.

I know a 24 year old ( he was at the time ) who voted leave , so all this about 'gammons ' and 'baby boomers ' being responsible isn't entirely true.
I've seen a few things not available on the shelves and I think that many things we take for granted might not be as available in the future.
I did read about a Christmas Turkey shortage so maybe people will have to try other things instead.
It is shit and covid will get the blame. Along with the gas and electricity problems too which will be worse as winter looms.
We have many years of choice and maybe this will become a thing of the past. We will have to learn to adapt I guess.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 14:29

But the UK has it worse, and everything is exacerbated, by Brexit.

Has it worse than what? Than before? Granted. Than the food prices in other eu countries? Not in my experience.

Kleptaklunky · 19/09/2021 14:29

@VelvetChairGirl

Brexit has ruined this country but its a 2 pronged attack, it wouldn't have been so bad if Corbyn got in to steer us through it and the pandemic.

obviously I voted remain and I am sure we will rejoin but I think it will take about 10 years or so of falling in the world before we do.

There's absolutely no way we'll be rejoining the EU
RJnomore1 · 19/09/2021 14:29

For all those claiming noone will starve

People already are and if you don’t realise that you are a complete self centred nincompoop.

Couple with rising heating and travel costs and a lot of people and children are going to have a very very difficult winter.

Is it all due to brexit? No. Is it partly? Absolutely definitely and tbh the pandemic has probably given a good deal of cover for just how bad brexit has been.

Can anyone give me one defined benefit from brexit we have seen so far please. I’m listening and hoping.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:29

@tobedtoMNandfart this isn’t true: @trama is prepared to brand 52% of the voting population (of all demographics, who she has never met) as racist
It was never 52% of the voting population, just if those who happened to vote that day. More like a third.

mustlovegin · 19/09/2021 14:30

Salmon
Sparkling water
Some ready meals
Tonic water

If you can afford salmon, sparkling water and ready meals, you are hardly struggling OP. You have a job, you have a lot to be grateful for, actually

vera99 · 19/09/2021 14:30

At the top of this pile of festering poo lies Johnson and his second rate acolytes. Brexit was doable if pushed what wasn't is this Lord Of Chaos and Misrule who all he has ever done is life is shagged around, denied the truth and scribbled in tory rags to amuse the aristos. Well the jokes are not funny anymore and all this well we need to eat less, do we need Jarlsberg misses the point by an imperial mile.

Gavin Williamson is tipped to get a knighthood reflect on that for a moment.

Chaos is beginning to rein and winter is coming.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/09/2021 14:30

@rollonmatrix

Oh and another reason why gas prices are rising. The fuel pipe from France to the U.K. had a massive fire... do you think that's down to Brexit? Maybe the French did it on purpose.... 🙃
The fire was in Kent

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:31

@Chloemol

Well my shelves have not been short of anything

And Brexit is not the only reason, as anyone with any common sense is aware

Covid has been a massive issue as well, but guess it’s just easier to jump on the I hate Brexiteers bandwagon that actually understand what’s happened

So what you’re saying is there aren’t any shortages. But don’t blame the shortages which don’t exist on Brexit. You don’t even believe this rubbish yourself, do you?
SusieBob · 19/09/2021 14:31

Yanbu. It was always a fucking stupid idea and here we are, seeing why.

User4378645 · 19/09/2021 14:31

I'll be glad if bottled water never comes back, use the water out of the tap and a reusable bottle when you go out

Noodella18 · 19/09/2021 14:31

@binkydebonky with lorry drivers brexit is a major factor. There are now very fiddly import and export regulations which are checked at the borders. Many hauliers are now unwilling to cross the border due to the risk of delays and also litigation i.e. if they have a load from more than one company and one lot of paperwork hasn't been filled on correctly then the whole truck gets delayed and the haulier gets stung by the companies with correct paperwork. This means there are fewer european drivers coming into the UK and available to work. I work in research and have specifically spoken to companies about this very issue - it's brexit. Import and export volumes as a whole have also reduced because of the need for this new paperwork, which again means fewer eu drivers crossing the border.

SuperApple · 19/09/2021 14:32

I find it it all depressing beyond belief, but I cannot and will not be dragged into hating those who voted differently to how I chose to. They certainly didn't vote for this - they too have children, friends, grandchildren they want the best for. My anger is placed firmly where it belongs - at the feet of those who instigated this shit show; they knew the medium to long term implications of their little vanity project.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:33

@Ilovegreentomatoes

Plus side....Finally workplaces are not able to get cheap imported labour and are actually having to pay people a living wage to attract applicants. I guess all the time you were able to get someone working for peanuts it didn't bother you as long as your daily routine was not affected you can ignore the fact of sub standard conditions and pay for many workers.
You can’t see any way a government could have clamped down on employers exploiting the workforce without creating a whole range of new supply issues by losing frictionless trade?

Another one saying o never mind that our food supply has become so unpredictable, and the situation is clearly deteriorating, because its not as bad as it could be

That makes no sense.

No one is saying it is as bad as it could be.

They are saying look, our supplies are being disrupted. And they are

Sharingthesamedream · 19/09/2021 14:33

It could be regional as others have said.I’ve not seen empty shelves in Essex.Hope it gets better for everyone else.

That's exactly the attitude of our rulers, we should just be grateful we are not starving 🙄
MagnoliaXYZ · 19/09/2021 14:34

The only thing I have struggled to get is preserving sugar.

To the person claiming that there are food shortages in EU countries, can you please tell us where and provide evidence?
I'm in a Central European country and I shop in 3 different countries - no food shortages anywhere.

What we do have is a shortage of wood for building, white goods and new cars. These are apparently caused by issues arising from the pandemic.

DreamingofTimbuktu · 19/09/2021 14:35
