I know this has been done before, and I’ve read many stories, but I need more! Please tell me your creepy stories!

Mine is

Just over 10 years ago, I got pregnant and had a missed miscarriage, and went to hospital to have the D&C to have the baby removed. Exactly a year to the day after the procedure, I woke in the middle of the night. In my half asleep state, I felt like something was watching me, right next to my head, and I moved. Then suddenly, it felt like a rush of wind went over my face and down my body to my feet. It properly woke me up and I went cold. I turned on the light to see if there was anything in my room, nothing was there. Didn’t have any drinks or anything upstairs, no idea what it could have been. But it has always been a comfort to me thinking that it was my baby saying they were ok.

A few months after my dad died I heard my phone ringing in my bag but couldn’t get to it before it went to answerphone. I grabbed it and saw it was a missed call from my dad. I thought it was really odd but decided it was probably my mum sorting through his stuff and had come across his phone. I decided to call it back, thinking my mum might be upset but it immediately said number no longer in use. Then it pinged to say I had an answer phone message. It was my dad saying he was having to stay in hospital longer than originally planned and for me not to leave to pick him up as he had to stay another night.

A few weeks before he died he said he’d left me an answerphone message telling me not to come when I turned up to pick him up from hospital. I hadn’t got it but didn’t really think anything of it and, as I was already there, we decided to hire one of the TV’s in hospital and watch a film together. We watched Homeward Bound, of all things, got a takeaway delivered to his ward and had a really lovely evening together in hospital, chatting for hours which we hadn’t done for years. The next day he had a brain haemorrhage and couldn’t speak or understand anything from that moment on, until he died a few weeks later.

When I got back to my mum’s I told her all about it, played her the message and we both had a good cry. When I saw my brother a few days later I went to play it for him but it was gone, along with the record of the missed call from his phone. It was so weird, I still don’t understand it.

It's so lovely that you got to spend that time with your dad. Precious x

Why are you being nasty for no reason whatsoever? Fiction or not... the words made sense to someone's feeling. You never been moved by a movie, or had a character's scenario in a TV drama resonate with you?

@Zeal Literally crying! 😂
Thank you for cheering me up today. It's the sort of thing I always think and often even say out loud while reading but I probably wouldn't type it out! Maybe I should start to! You legend. Thanks again! 😂

Going to add one more - already posted (accidentally!) under real name, but this a bit creepy so made sure it's not obviously me this time...

So the other night about 1am, maybe 10 days ago ish, I was on the sofa alone. Toddler in her pram next to me so sleeping, She caught a cold from her big sister so I rocked her in there. DH upstairs sleeping and eldest DD at her Nan's.

Heard a sound, a cat meowing, under the window in the kitchen (50yards max from me - open plan fair size) as clear as day. We have a Tom car that murders things left, right and centre - I sodding hate it - so the biggest window is only ever ajar in case he brings his victims in.

Something about it was just... Off. Can't explain it. Sounded like my boy but. Or right.. Ignored it. Huge glass doors facing the sofa and blinds only half drawn as aside from vans and horses no one really passes late at night.

It was the strangest thing, on one hand it's clearly the cat - go let him in. On the other, nah mate. Something is not right.

As I'm deciding what to do and already on my feet to let the evil murderous cat in, I see him. Right across from me, sleeping. No other pets or kids/family and certainly not that would meow.

I really felt I shouldn't go near the window (long but narrow, not accessible to a regular sized person) just froze. Then it came again, not my cat - obviously - but also somehow not catlike even though what else could it be?! I went right to my bedroom, actual cat came too and didn't dare close the window until the following day.

Still scared of that one. I refer to it as Cat-Man and even warned by nearest neighbours. It is so weird, not supernatural as such but the feeling... I only know one thing for sure and that is that if I had opened the door something very bad would have happened.

I double check everything since and have the cat in at bedtime with a littler tray in the kitchen for emergencies. Foooook that roiiiiight off for a game of sodding soldiers! Scared just typing as DH is not home until restaurant closes and everything is quiet do earliest 10.30pm. Get off meeeeee!!

Eh.? OK, I will take the credit, thank you.

This thread is too long for me to remember and I have no time between life and wine. Is this the one with the Roman warrior? ie Gladius dildo? Or the one where I tell the alcoholic to just turn up pissed to the cinema?

Any event, glad to be of service.

Zeal · 22/09/2021 20:35

There are some really funny people on MN. Far too often their subtleties go over heads. I remember the lady who wanted advice on how to shut up the dawn chorus as WFH was difficult. Loads of people came on with advice on how to stop birds singing....hilariously ridiculous. The OP knew all this and was exasperated they all took her seriously..So funny!

ChristinaMarlowe · 22/09/2021 20:43

All funny but the dildo always agronomy, the crudeness took the shine off for me (yes, yes, clutches pearls..)

This.

In one arm the figure appeared to be carrying something long and pointed, almost a metre in length and about two inches wide. A sword.

I looked down to see the sword, or blade, or whatever it was Er, a sword.

It was a strange, satisfying, almost euphoric feeling, like you get when you sink into a hot bath, or scratch an itch. Mmmm...maybe it was a dildo? But a metre long....

And then it thrust the object in its hand straight into my stomach. Ah, nope. Definitely a sword.

Very very funny. Ta. Smile

ChristinaMarlowe · 22/09/2021 20:46

Aah a good typo. Sorry. What the hell was I even trying to say? Ah. "All funny but the dildo story took the shine off for me.. yes, yes, clutched pearls..

Zeal · 22/09/2021 20:55

Oh, yes I remember that trail now. Grin

Strange you auto-typed 'agronomy' which of course is the study of planting and harvesting food in the context of human life and economics. The word derives from Agricola, the Roman emperor who pushed his armies across Britain 2,000 years ago. Somehow I think you knew that.

ChristinaMarlowe · 22/09/2021 21:20

@Zeal I didn't! More spooky is why my phone thinks I tried to type that! Yeah, very often used in my daily vocabulary. I'm guessing it is in there to cover drunk learned types but no, definitely autocorrect!

Beeinalily · 22/09/2021 21:55

@fedup078 I hope you're okay 💐

fedup078 · 22/09/2021 22:02

Millionaireinthemaking · 23/09/2021 16:54

I know this thread is days old… but not long after my Nan died I was once laying in bed and I heard the sound of “angels” just beautiful music… but I couldn’t wake myself up.. I was only 9 so would be a strange dream to have if that makes sense? I’ve always thought it was so weird! I’ve only met one person that said something similar happened to them! Has this happened to anyone else?!

beastlyslumber · 23/09/2021 17:50

I used to hear music all the time when I was a kid. I still do sometimes. It's always a full orchestra playing a symphony, but nothing I've ever heard before. I remember going downstairs a couple of times thinking there was a record playing or radio on, but soon realised only I could hear it. A few times it's been loud and uncomfortable, but mostly I really like it.

Not creepy, but also not a dream. Apparently it's quite common.

This is quite a common experience.
Millionaireinthemaking · 23/09/2021 18:02

Yes exactly this!

Millionaireinthemaking · 23/09/2021 18:04

@beastlyslumber I wonder what it is? I always found it comforting

beastlyslumber · 23/09/2021 19:13

According to Oliver Sacks, it's an auditory hallucination. Relatively common (although I've only ever met one other person who knows what I'm talking about!) and harmless but rather lovely and feel quite lucky to have them. I've sometimes wondered if I should have been some kind of musician or composer because my imaginary symphonies are really quite wonderful!

Weredone · 23/09/2021 19:21

@LouH1981 we’ve also had this happen!! Our house is over 100 years old and when my youngest has stirred in the night and I’ve woken up I’ve heard ‘shushing’. One time I woke up my dh so he could hear too. Me and my dh just stared at each other… Dd did used to go back down and it never felt at all threatening so I have to admit I didn’t mind it!! Blush haven’t heard anything/had anything like that happen in over a year now dd is much bigger

fedup078 · 23/09/2021 19:37

The only thing that ever happened remotely creepy was a few days after my mother died and ds was about 9 days old
He was stirring in his cot and I was 100% awake and thinking oh please oh please go back to sleep and then I heard a loud whisper clear as day say a shortened 'nickname' version of his name. He instantly went quiet and didn't make a noise for 10 mins
It scared the shit out of me

Bexlily · 23/09/2021 20:19

Something really creepy has just happened.

DS has been playing up tonight and, as a result was in bed a bit later than usual. He called me a name which wasn't bad but we had words about being nice and not calling names. I left with the usual love you etc but he was a bit upset because he knew he'd not been very nice to me.

I've just been upstairs in my bedroom sorting out clothes for tomorrow, (we have 3 floors, my room is on the top floor, his is on the middle floor) and I heard him talking to my DD, I heard him say "I wasn't very nice to Mum" and DD answer back "Your OK, she isn't upset at you any more".

I came back downstairs within minutes of this to find my DS on his own in his room and DD in the lounge, there was no way she could have gotten from one to the other so fast. I went in and checked on him and he said "I've just been laid talking to Nanna"

My DM died just over a year ago!

Taxwolf · 23/09/2021 20:44

This happened a few weeks ago. I had a really frightening dream. I dreamt I was in a flat and trying to keep the door closed to a predatory man. I was with a young woman (I didn’t know her) and kept saying to her ‘don’t let him in, he is not what he seems’. I woke up with my heart absolutely thumping. I got up and went to the loo and it was still thumping. Never felt so frightened by a dream.

The next morning we collected DD2 (22) from her flat as we were all going to visit a grandparent in the North West. DD2 told us she had been extremely drunk the night before and a man had tried to abduct her from a bus stop in SE London. (She reported it to the police who took it seriously).

Not sure if it was coincidence or I somehow connected with DD2 in her moment of distress.
