Neighbours washing..

A weird one but i need some light shed please wise people of mumsnet.
I live in a row of houses/flats on a roundabout, right neighbour is a house, left neighbour is a block of flats. Recently i've come home and there is a washing maiden that you'd sort of hang up on a radiator hanging off my fence. This fence is the one that is next to the flats, the flats have no gardens so i'm assuming its one of theirs.
I ignored it the first, second and third time but today i've come back with an ill child and had to get through 2 hanging off my fence and one right in front of my gate with a sleeping 2 year old who's ill and it's just annoyed me.
Would i be unreasonable to tell them to not hang stuff of the fence? I understand they want it to dry but it's frustrated me today!!!

@Cavementality

This is so sad. Why does it bother you? Please allow this less fortunate person to dry their clothes. Let it be your good deed for the day.x
where do you get "less fortunate" from?
HalzTangz · 18/09/2021 23:28

@washingfiasco

Has it worked now?
I can see both diagrams you have uploaded

would you rather have neighbours whoo live in mild mildew smell.or durt gear.come on

Beebababadabo · 19/09/2021 01:08

I can't believe some people have made out you are petty. Unless they don't have to pay for things like fencing then I guess they don't understand. Heavy wet washing over time can damage fencing it's not designed to hang weight. I would of done the same Op and left a note asking them to stop hanging washing on my fence.

HearMeSnore · 19/09/2021 01:11

Just an idea - if they ignore your note maybe install a tall, well-stocked bird feeding station close to the fence (on your side.) This kind of thing...

If they damage the fence by constantly attaching drying racks to it who is reasonable for repairing it ? I’d speak to the ppl in the flats and get somthing going with the council there must be some space in that car park where a washing area can be made for them all. But I wouldn’t want them on my fence it’s cheeky to do it without Atleast asking first but once you let 1 person do it everyone follows .

Billandben444 · 19/09/2021 07:17

"less fortunate"! Praps OP should offer to tumble dry it for them - give over! Hopefully they'll respect the note and hang their undies indoors or find a laundrette. Bloody cheek to hang it on any fence in public view let alone one that's not theirs.

jamdonut · 19/09/2021 09:44

It would annoy me.

@WashingFiasco

So, you must be home from work now Smile
Guessing the note worked

Please don't be afraid to immediately remove their washing and put it further along alley way, on the ground if you need to, if any appears again hung from your fence or in the way of your access in shared alleyway. Don't be a doormat.

Yes got home from work now back again! DD still poorly so was up with her all night.
Got home yesterday and the floor washing maiden that was originally infront of my gate was actually infront of the downstairs flat next to me and no longer at my gate and there was nothing hanging from my fence! Hoorah!
I understand where people are coming from about me being a bit petty but it's honestly not my issue that they do not have the required space for a tumble dryer/washing line. It will however be my issue if my fence does get damaged. I'm a nice person but why should i have to pay for a new fence if it gets damaged? I doubt they'd offer to pay!

@480Widdio

Just remove it and leave it on the floor.
🙄

I think it’s very cheeky to automatically assume it’s ok to use your fence without asking and I wouldn’t be tolerating it.
I would remove the washing next time they do it and if they come round to get it back tell them it’s your fence, you’re responsible for any maintenance and costs and it’s not to be used without your permission.
