Neighbours washing..

washingfiasco · 17/09/2021 14:01

A weird one but i need some light shed please wise people of mumsnet.
I live in a row of houses/flats on a roundabout, right neighbour is a house, left neighbour is a block of flats. Recently i've come home and there is a washing maiden that you'd sort of hang up on a radiator hanging off my fence. This fence is the one that is next to the flats, the flats have no gardens so i'm assuming its one of theirs.
I ignored it the first, second and third time but today i've come back with an ill child and had to get through 2 hanging off my fence and one right in front of my gate with a sleeping 2 year old who's ill and it's just annoyed me.
Would i be unreasonable to tell them to not hang stuff of the fence? I understand they want it to dry but it's frustrated me today!!!

Looks like you could have just stepped round it tbh

Cattitudes · 17/09/2021 14:24

If it is your fence then maybe just move them elsewhere.

SoloISland · 17/09/2021 14:24

@myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses

If you own the fence, just take the hangers off. Job done.
Agree totally. They would not do it again. And if they challenge you, plead ignorance. I mean anyone could take it.
stripedbananas · 17/09/2021 14:26

If it only bothers you for the 2 seconds you have to pass under the washing then you're being a bit unreasonable

AllAroundTheWorldYeah · 17/09/2021 14:26

Could you put on a post it note or something on it politely asking them not to hang stuff from your fence?

PumpkinKlNG · 17/09/2021 14:28

Hose pipe?

Cherrysoup · 17/09/2021 14:35

Paint the fence with anti-climb paint.

1forAll74 · 17/09/2021 14:42

It's just washing, and not there all the time. They probably have no other options to use.

Lweji · 17/09/2021 14:44

Can't they hang the clothes to their side?

I'd take off the whole thing and explain to them why I don't want them there when they ask for them back.

TomFuckery · 17/09/2021 14:44

It least it was clean 🤣

JinglingHellsBells · 17/09/2021 14:46

There may be something in their lease (even if they own the flat it will be leasehold, usually) that prohibits washing being outside. This often is the case with flats with Juliet balconies.

RobertaFirmino · 17/09/2021 14:47

one right in front of my gate with a sleeping 2 year old who's ill and it's just annoyed me

That would annoy me too. You are supposed to dry human beings with a towel, not leave them to drip dry.

5128gap · 17/09/2021 14:57

I think you're being a bit petty. Its a very minor inconvenience to you and probably a huge help to them to dry their washing outside. It's mean to take this away from them just because you can.

heldinadream · 17/09/2021 14:58

I really want to see the diagram for this, can't get my head round it at all. Can anyone re-post OP's diagram because that sometimes works?

5128gap · 17/09/2021 15:00

@Lweji

Can't they hang the clothes to their side?

I'd take off the whole thing and explain to them why I don't want them there when they ask for them back.

Which would go along the lines of 'It irritates me to see your pants drying for the few seconds it takes to go through my gate'?
forrestgreen · 17/09/2021 15:03

If it's your fence it's going to cause damage over time. Tie a note onto it explaining nicely. If it happens again, pop it on the floor...

DowntonCrabby · 17/09/2021 15:05

Hmm I’m on the fence with this one.

Sorry that was awful, we need the diagram.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/09/2021 15:08

@hedgehogger1

Has this now become a laundry parking thread?
Grin

I'm most frustrated now that not only can I not see the diagram, but it seems that most others can.

I need to know what's going on here.

ladybrunton · 17/09/2021 15:08

I couldn't get worked up about this, sorry.

WitchBaby · 17/09/2021 15:09

I can see the diagram on the app.
Reposted for those who can't see it.

Still can’t see it 😂

WitchBaby · 17/09/2021 15:11

Oh no, @MNHQ you have to sort these attachments/photos out, they never seem to work.

ImaginaryCat · 17/09/2021 15:12

I'd worry that it's going to weaken the fence. Wet laundry, especially towels, can be really heavy. The weight hanging off the fence would be my justification for asking them to stop.
If they use a free standing airer in the car park then I don't think you could stop them unless it was actually blocking your right of way.

Does this work?
(Sorry OP, I’ve taken over your diagram Grin)
