Does anyone else drink most evenings?

I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

Yes. I love a couple of glasses of wine in the evening and through dinner.

Ori3 · 15/09/2021 20:36

Nah alcohol is the work of the devil. It destroys lives. Lost two people to alcohol - I’m not sure either of them knew they had a problem. Hate the fucking stuff

Anon778833 · 15/09/2021 20:37

I have to watch my tendency to use wine as a crutch when things are stressful.

In my case I look back and see that my family has a bad relationship with alcohol. I was allowed to drink alcohol from a young age and I don’t think this has helped matters. My parents would let me get incredibly drunk at dinner parties. My dad is pretty much an alcoholic.

Now I have my own kids I can see how abnormal that was. They don’t like alcohol. The nearly 18 year old has no desire to drink at all.

SpnBaby1967 · 15/09/2021 20:37

In Lockdown 1.0 I started drinking every night. But I realised it was becoming too much of a crutch to deal with the stress.

Now I drink mostly at the weekend, I occasionally still drink in the week but a bottle will last me 2-3 evenings.

HarrisMcCoo · 15/09/2021 20:38

Tea. That's my go to type of drink. Like a clear head in the morning when 6am start.

LaPufalina · 15/09/2021 20:38

I'm calorie counting to shift my lockdown stone so wine isn't really worth it at the expense of food at the moment. I did have a blow out on Saturday with 1.5 bottles of wine over the evening, meal out for three hours, but it's rare, my off-switch is quite good Grin
If I'm not watching my weight I probably have a glass of wine 4-6 nights a week, I can make a bottle last four nights. I enjoy it with dinner but I'm conscious that we eat with our small kids so they see me drinking with our evening meal most days.

NashvilleQueen · 15/09/2021 20:38

I used to have a drink most nights. Now in my 40s I usually avoid drinking at least 4 nights a week. Sometimes 5.

MrsDThomas · 15/09/2021 20:39

I do. I love a glass of wine.

I dont care what others think. I dont smoke, dont do drugs. I work hard.

Life is short. I live mine

Lunificent · 15/09/2021 20:39

I drank half a bottle of wine every night (except during pregnancy) for 27 years. I have cancer at the moment and it’s not hereditary- it could be caused in part by some lifestyle factors. One of the risk factors for this type of cancer is alcohol consumption. I don’t know if it caused it but I do now know that my future holds a significant reduction in my wine intake.

sorryforswearing · 15/09/2021 20:40

I used to. Decided to stop as I wanted to lose weight and I knew I was drinking well over the recommended limits. I now only buy myself the very occasional bottle of wine, drink it from a smaller glass and spread it over more nights. I miss my nightly glass but that’s all the more reason for limiting it I suppose.

HarrisMcCoo · 15/09/2021 20:41

Loads of ways to unwind of an evening... have a a bath, shag, read a book, do some knitting etc. All harmless stuff.

Maharajah20 · 15/09/2021 20:42

@ChampagneLassie

I thought my user name was cute but actually reflecting on this now makes me cringe. I was/am an alcoholic. Drinking fine wine and champagne gives a veneer of respectability. I'm going to stay off completely post pregnancy too

Yes.

Thanks for all the responses. Units wise I can drink anything from 2 - 16 I'd say per week. I can certainly go several evenings without drinking. I just prefer not to.
A couple of glasses of wine per night is not 2 - 16 units per week
maddiemookins16mum · 15/09/2021 20:46

Nope. But I used to be you, two glasses became three, then a bottle was done. However, I was still not ‘relaxed enough’, crack open a second bottle then, why not.
25 years passes, I’m a lush.
Sober for four years now though.

HarrisMcCoo · 15/09/2021 20:46

@DemBonesDemBones

No, I'm really sad and would rather have a cup of tea Grin
Same ☕
Suchluck · 15/09/2021 20:47

No. I have small children and my husband works night. I haven’t had a drink since 2015.

Imnothereforthedrama · 15/09/2021 20:47

Yeah the odd glass most evenings , some evenings I don’t at all and I may have more at the weekends. I enjoy a glass after dc gone to bed but if I don’t have any I’m not bothered either . I don’t see it as a big deal I think it’s worse to have big binges at the weekend and get absolutely plastered, I very rarely get drunk .

cjpark · 15/09/2021 20:47

I only drink on very rare occasions, maybe 3-4 times a year. I used to drink regularly until I was at an ex-friend's house a few years back and was assaulted by her husband when everyone else was drunk. I now get very anxious around people who have been drinking and avoid it unless I feel really comfortable.

Toffeepineapple · 15/09/2021 20:49

No, but I used to.

For several years and when in a very unhappy relationship, well, just an unhappy place generally I think, I'd drink at least half a bottle at night and probably double at the weekends.

Now I still drink too much tbh, but it's usually only 3 days a week, but I'm pretty sure it tips over the recommended amount. Maybe 15-20 units. Trying to cut down to 2 days.

Alcohol is the thief of time.

2-16 a week but drinking most evenings? Are you sure about that?

I drink wine most nights. I've lived most of my life in Europe and most people I know are the same. Wine at lunch many of them too!
