Bed bugs 😫 pic

AIBU to burn my flat down 😐😑

Both kids come up on spots Monday. Assumed chicken pox, didn't itch and redness went down the next day.

I wash all bedding etc the same day.
Today I thought I would double check the beds.
The kids have racing car beds that are low to the floor, slates are around 3 inches for the floor.
Pulled the mattress up, saw one teenie tiny bug.. killed it.
Then saw a couple on the carpet, under the slates. I placed a white baby wipe down and a couple travelled onto it.

I'm assuming bed bugs, baby bed bugs in the pic... I've called for fumigation for Friday midday and the kids can sleep in with me tonight, I've attached a pic.

They're bedbugs aren't they? 😑😑

Fumigation man just left after doing an inspection!

NOT bedbugs.
He said they are most likely Psocids. (They have antennas BB don't, they move faster, different body shapes and also he couldn't find a BB poo stain, a shell casing, nothing)

He said 100% not bed bugs.

Thank god as I almost passed out waiting for the man 😂 I was so worried.

@Lauralu19 you called it! Lol 🙂

Oh wow, that is good news Op!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/09/2021 12:55

Where are they from ? How do you prevent them? Did he get rid of them
I can feel your relief Grin

Roozy123 · 17/09/2021 13:22

Well, I had mentioned the room having BAD condensation and mold. I called a man out a couple of months ago about it and he basically said its the building and to ventilate etc.
Any way, the man said today that these bugs like humidity, mold, damp. Also, they can eat the glue in books, my mum has bought loads of books here, 2nd hand ones by the bagful so MAYBE a couple travelled in. Maybe (where I'm ground floor and the kids have the balcony and back door in their room.) One got in seeking the moisture and feel of the room.
All I can do is assume.

I don't feel 100% reassured but with anxiety I don't think I ever would have, but hearing a professional come and say "it's 100% not bedbugs" and explain why, makes me feel slightly better lol.

Oh, also, no he didn't get rid of them. He said that I basically could do it myself and just hoovering we've only seen 1 or 2 since!
So I'll keep the room hoovered every 5 mins 😆 and i may buy some sprays etc.
He did say that because the room is damp etc they will likely return.

Ooooh the joys 😬

Oh good news, keep hoovering! At least it's not mice....or rats...or fleasShock

Roozy123 · 17/09/2021 13:33

To be honest, I was SO focused on them being bedbugs that that's all I cared about! So, when he said they weren't i was just so relieved!
I carried on questioning about them being bed bugs as I was so paranoid, but he was very certain they weren't. He probably thought I was crazy lol.

I didn't ask too much about the bugs he said they were! Because I kept on about bloody BB lol

... where I live has had black mold that i battle with in every room. The walls in the children's rooms I battle with, my bedroom, bathroom, under kitchen sink, around the windows.... so, a bug that likes mold I'm not surprised is living here 🤢😷

Thank you all so much for your messages and helping me through lol.

Could you afford to get a dehumidifier, we have one as we sometimes dry washing in the house

BelieveInRainbows · 17/09/2021 14:28

Oh I'm so pleased for you that they're not bed bugs! I mean no bugs are pleasant, but bed bugs are a whole other level of torture. Agree with PP about a dehumidifier. We had awful mold in our last house and had dehumidifiers in almost every room, it didn't cure the problem but did help massively.

leavesthataregreen · 17/09/2021 14:46

They could be silverfish. They like the glue in book spines and could have come form the second hand books.

Lauralu19 · 17/09/2021 16:00

Oh that’s Good news! Pleased for you that they are not bed bugs. I thought it looked like them. Agree about a dehumidifier in the room and keep the room ventilated. You could also try the moisture traps. There is also some indoor houseplants that asorb moisture and prevent damp

Lauralu19 · 17/09/2021 16:04

That last message was meant to say I thought they looked like book lice. Hope all goes well!

Roozy123 · 17/09/2021 16:14

@leavesthataregreen 100% not them as these are black and they're small bugs, but I also have them because the whole flat is damp Confused .. the joys

SO glad they aren't bed bugs. wouldn't wish them on anyone.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 17/09/2021 16:51

who owns the flat? if owned does your insurance cover you?

Roozy123 · 17/09/2021 17:20

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend I don't own it.
It's Housing Association. They won't deal with pest control, they suggest to call the council. Called council twice within the last 2/3 days and they said both times, this isn't a service they will provide at the moment, because of Covid apparently Hmm

Oh I'm so pleased it's something easily sorted OP.

When we had bedbugs (before I knew that's what it was), I had bites appearing a week after we'd come back from holiday. From googling id concluded it must either be bedbugs or scabies. I often refer to that time as "the time in my life when I hoped I had scabies". Bed bugs are the worst 😭
